Vasyugan honeysuckle is a plant with an already definite history. It is very promising in horticultural terms. However, only a competent consideration of all the peculiarities of the culture allows you to get a pleasant result.

Breeding history

Vasyugan honeysuckle was obtained at the Lisavenko Research Institute of Siberian Horticulture. This shrub has been allowed to grow in private gardens since 1990. The main curators of the project were breeders Gidzyuk and Tkacheva.

Description of the variety

The versatile Vasyugan shrub is of medium height. Moderately spreading bushes are crowned with a rounded crown. The largest plant diameter is 120 cm. Green shoots have an anthocyanin tan. Their moderately pubescent shoots hang slightly.

Leaves:

  • moderately large;

  • painted in yellow-green tone;

  • slightly pubescent.

Fruit characteristics

The fruits of the Vasyugan variety are quite large. They weigh an average of 0.75-0.8 grams. But, of course, exceptions are possible. The fruits are distinguished by an elongated shape and dark purple, almost turning into black, color. For them, crumbling is almost atypical, while tearing off the fruit is not a big deal.

Taste qualities

The peel covered with a waxy bloom practically does not affect the perception of the harvested crop. The sweet and sour taste is highly prized, and even gourmets can be satisfied with it. The pulp of Vasyugan honeysuckle is juicy. She was given a tasting score of 4.8 points.

Content of basic substances:

  • sugars of various kinds - up to 7.8%;

  • acids not more than 1.9%;

  • ascorbic acid - 264 mg per 1 kg;

  • vitamin P up to 8460 mg per 1 kg.

Ripening and fruiting

Vasyugan honeysuckle pleases with tasty seedlings already in the first year of plant development. Early maturation is typical for her. This is not surprising, given the origin and the Far Eastern hardy varieties used by breeders. Harvesting begins around June 12-19. But the weather can make its own adjustments to this regime.

Yield

The average level of productivity in plantation culture is 4.8 t / ha. The highest recorded figure is 100 centners per hectare. Therefore, it is not difficult to understand the importance of competent planting and a systematic approach to growing.

Honeysuckle pleases the owners of the site not only with a beautiful color, but also with fruits with an unusual taste. When planning to plant it on your site, it is important to learn everything about the fruiting of the bush.

Growing regions

The variety is grown:

  • in the north of the European part of Russia;

  • in the Central Black Earth Region;

  • on the Middle and Lower Volga;

  • in the territories and republics of the North Caucasus;

  • in Western, Eastern Siberia;

  • for the Urals and the Far East (although officially this honeysuckle is adapted only in the south of Western Siberia).

Self-fertility and the need for pollinators

With all its advantages, the variety is absolutely self-fertile. To get at least some kind of harvest, you will need to use:

  • Blue bird;

  • Blue spindle;

  • Tomichka.

Growing and care

There is a high level of cold resistance of Vasyugan honeysuckle. And also she does well in hot and even dry periods. It is best to plant such a crop on loams enriched with productive substances. Let's assume the choice of both sunny and moderately shaded areas. The ability to tolerate the effects of various diseases and insect pests is officially declared, but it is better to prepare for such situations in advance.

Vasyuganskaya is planted in the spring at the junction of March and April. It is important to choose the moment when the snow has already melted, and the buds have not yet had time to come to life. When planting in the spring, it is easier to track how the development of honeysuckle will go, and also to protect it from adverse factors. Autumn planting is carried out in September or the first half of October, with the expectation of rooting before the onset of severe cold weather. Then, during the winter, the culture naturally stratifies, which allows for the strength and strength of the plant.

Although this variety is moisture-loving, waterlogging can greatly harm the root system. Watering the bushes should be carried out exclusively at the root when the earth dries out. In wet weather, it is better to refuse additional irrigation altogether. Fertilizers are applied in the 2nd year of development. At the time of flowering, fertilizing with an aqueous infusion of wood ash is useful.

In early spring, organic or branded mineral complexes are used. Adult bushes of Vasyugan honeysuckle are fed with urea every year with the onset of spring. Loosening and weeding are carried out as carefully as possible so that the roots of the plant survive. Potassium-phosphorus or organic fertilizing (along with removing dry shoots and bending branches) are very important in preparation for the winter season.

You can plant honeysuckle in open ground in spring, summer and autumn. Best of all, honeysuckle grows in an illuminated low-lying swampy place, while the site must be reliably protected from the wind. It is desirable that the soil is loamy or sandy loam. If the soil is poor, then it will first need to be fertilized.
In order for honeysuckle to bloom and bear fruit well, it needs to be properly cared for. One of the main procedures that affects the appearance and yield of this plant is shoot pruning. Without timely care, bushes prone to thickening rapidly turn into wild thickets with diseased and stunted plants, the number of young shoots decreases, the quantity and quality of berries decreases.
Timely fight against diseases and pests of honeysuckle allows you to grow a healthy crop, used both for decorative purposes and for harvesting fragrant berries. When growing honeysuckle, it is necessary to know the main diseases of the crop, common pests, as well as effective measures to combat them.
In order to increase the amount of honeysuckle in your area, it is not necessary to purchase planting material, it is quite possible to multiply the varieties you like yourself. There are several ways to breed honeysuckle: cuttings, layering, root shoots, dividing the bush, and also sowing seeds.
