The name of the Uralets apple tree speaks eloquently about its selection origin and the main cultivation region. But before taking on its cultivation, you need to familiarize yourself with the basic practical subtleties. They can relate to both planting and subsequent care of the plant.
Breeding history of the variety
Uralets is a product of the Sverdlovsk station, already well-known in horticultural and breeding circles. The authorship of the apple tree breeding belongs to P. A. Dibrova. To obtain culture, they took a Chinese woman Voskovka. She had to be pollinated with a combination of pollen of pink-striped Anis and Saratov Ukrainka. The result was a remarkable plant in many ways.
Description of the variety
The height of an apple tree can reach 8 m. For its slender crown, the shape of an ordinary or narrow pyramid is typical. Matte green leaves are medium in size. Their base is rounded and the top is wedge-like. The petiole is short, the stipules are also small.
The main branches are covered with brown bark. They usually extend at right angles from the trunk. Further, these branches can bend and grow vertically. As the crop is loaded, they are able to be distributed to the sides. Straight shoots are dark brown in color, pronounced pubescence.
The flowers are medium in size. They are white and shaped like a bowl. It is worth noting that even with a large number of fruits, the branches of the Urals will only bend. They break extremely rarely. So much so that even some attention is not paid to this point in the descriptions.
Features, pros and cons
The Uraletsk survives freezing temperatures well. It can be planted even in areas with a harsh climate. Fertility practically does not fluctuate over time. However, the apples themselves are small, which not all farmers like. Resistance to fungal infections is also not very satisfactory.
Important features of the variety:
in many cases, its height is limited to 5 m;
trees can be shaped like a regular bush;
the crown will firmly press against the trunk;
branches are densely covered with foliage;
the roots go deep underground (they hold the apple tree well, but are critical to groundwater);
the border of the leaves is covered with cloves;
with proper care, the growth rate is from 0.5 to 0.7 m (for young branches).
Ripening and fruiting
The variety is self-fertile. Ural bulk is the best pollinator. But you can use other apple trees with a similar growing cycle. Harvesting time under normal conditions is early September. Weather conditions, however, can correct this. Uralets rewards gardeners with the first apples for 5, 6 or 7 years of development, and then continues to do so in each new season. The peak is reached between 40 and 50 years.
Growing regions
According to the official zoning, the Uralets can be grown:
in the Urals proper;
in the Volgo-Vyatka region;
in the West Siberian regions;
in the north of the European part of Russia.
At the same time, the experience of gardeners allows us to confidently expand the range of this variety by:
Volga region;
north of Kazakhstan;
Non-black earth.
Yield
The average collection is 70-80 kg. In favorable years, it can reach 100 and even 120 kg.Much depends on the efforts of the farmers themselves, on how diligently they grow the apple tree. Only competent and patient apple growers manage to achieve the maximum possible result.
Fruits and their taste
The apples of the Urals are dominated by a cream color. The covering tone is a bright carmine color. Other important facts:
apple weight from 45 to 60 g;
typical sweet and sour taste with spicy and tart notes;
fruit shape - rounded cone;
smooth and dry skin;
juicy pulp of light cream color;
guaranteed keeping quality up to 45 days;
concentration of dry soluble substances up to 14.7-17.2%;
the concentration of sugars is up to 11.7-14%.
Growing features
Autumn planting is recommended after the completion of leaf fall. If you hurry too much, the tree will hardly take root in a new place. In the spring, you have to wait for damp and warm weather. And it is also desirable that the frosts are already firmly over - this variety categorically does not like their return. The depth of the planting hole is adapted to the root complex of a particular seedling.
The Uraletsk demands to grow trees at least 5 m apart. Otherwise, they begin to oppress each other. Watering should occur 3-4 times per season. They do this not at the root, but retreating from the trunk by about 0.6 m.At the very landing, you need to keep a certain amount of soil ready: it can settle, and then you will urgently need a bedding.
Among the soils, the most attractive are:
soddy podzol;
soddy carbonate land;
light loams.
The landing site must be protected from the wind. When shaping pruning, remove all branches that do not grow at right angles to the plane of the trunk. The formation of the crown is aimed at preventing the tree from growing very high. The branches are cut after 3-4 buds. All cut areas are predictably treated with garden varnish.
Top dressing
For this apple tree, organic, mineral and mixed fertilizers are recommended. They are usually chosen according to actual need. Of organic matter, humus and bird droppings are good. Sometimes wood ash is also used. Nitrogen compounds are used in the spring and summer months, while in the fall, well-proven mineral mixtures are introduced.
Frost resistance
The trees of the Uraltsa are able to withstand cold temperatures down to -35 degrees. But all the same, in Siberian and Ural conditions, one cannot do without frost protection. The shelter is formed from any dense breathable material. It is worth pointing out that, according to the experience of a number of farms, the plant survives frosts down to –40 degrees. But they are probably already having a bad effect in the long run.
Diseases and pests
Fungal diseases practically do not harm the Urals. The scab is also practically safe for him. Additional prophylaxis is carried out with Karbofos. It is also usually used during infection, if it does occur. Among insects, the scale insect poses a serious threat to this variety.
The apple tree is a popular fruit crop among gardeners. It can be found in many summer cottages. But at the same time, such trees are often affected by various diseases. It is very important to recognize the disease in time and carry out the necessary procedures for a speedy recovery. Otherwise, the fruits will be spoiled, and the tree itself may die altogether.
