Sinap Orlovsky is an apple variety of domestic selection, known to gardeners since 1989, but specialists have been working on its breeding since the mid-50s of the 20th century. The variety is distinguished by regular fruiting, excellent keeping quality of fruits. It is especially popular among owners of private farms in the Central regions and the Black Earth Region. It is also known as Sinap Orlovskiy.
Description of the variety
Apple trees are vigorous, when grown on a medium-sized or semi-dwarf rootstock, the height can be limited to 3-3.5 m, which greatly facilitates harvesting. The crown is not prone to thickening of branches, sparse, broadly spreading. The foliage is good, the plates are pubescent, dark green, large. The skeletal branches of the tree are powerful, not too frequent, covered with dark brown geniculate shoots. During the flowering period, the crown is covered with light pink flowers with a bright aroma.
Features, pros and cons
The Sinap Orlovsky variety has successfully stood the test of time, proving its versatility and high yield in practice. Among its obvious advantages, gardeners and farmers distinguish:
winter hardiness;
early maturity;
high marketability;
the suitability of the fruit for processing;
high content of ascorbic acid;
long shelf life;
tasting score at the level of 4.4-4.7 points.
The disadvantages are minor. Trees, if grown without rootstock, gain considerable height. Sensitive to calcium content in soil. With its deficiency, there is an increased tendency of trees to be affected by bitter pitting. The aroma of apples is also not very strong.
Ripening and fruiting
Sinap Orlovsky belongs to the late winter varieties in terms of ripening. The fruits are ready to be removed from the trees in the last days of September, consumer maturity occurs in September, and apples can be consumed until May. The crop is removed annually, already 4-5 years after planting.
Growing regions
Sinap Orlovsky is zoned for cultivation in 6 regions of Belarus. In Russia, it is cultivated in the northwest - from Karelia to the Leningrad region, in the Middle Volga region. This variety is most common in the Central Black Earth and Central regions of the country, including the Oryol region.
Yield
Under conditions of industrial cultivation, up to 170 centners per hectare of harvest can be harvested from Sinap Orlovsky. From a tree get from 50 to 170 kg, depending on its age.
Fruits and their taste
The variety gives large, about 150 g in weight, apples with a strong oily skin, colored at first in yellow-green tones, and then acquiring a golden hue. Blush may appear on the side facing the sun. The pulp is very juicy, has a greenish-creamy color, harmonious taste with hints of sugar and light acid.
Growing features
As a rule, Sinap Orlovsky in private farms is immediately planted on dwarf or semi-dwarf rootstocks. The crown in this case will correspond in width to the height of the tree. Early maturity also directly depends on the stock.
When choosing a site for planting, it is worth giving preference to well-lit areas hidden from drafts and gusty winds. Trees are placed at a distance of 3.5 meters from each other so that they do not overshadow each other. Autumn planting is chosen for three-year-old plants that need more time to adapt. They are placed in the ground until the 2nd decade of October, so that they have time to take root before the cold weather.
Spring planting is done if two-year-old trees are selected. They take root much easier, and the time for acclimatization is just enough for the plants to get stronger before the onset of frost. Planting is carried out no earlier than the 2nd decade of April, but before the sap flow begins. It is important not to deepen the vaccination site - it is left 7-9 cm above the surface, a peg is driven in next to it, used as a support in the early years.
The soil for Sinap Orlovsky needs rather loose, breathable. If necessary, the soil on the site is diluted with sand. Too light soils are flavored with clay or black soil.
The main care is regular watering. In dry periods without rain, young trees need 10-15 liters of water at least once every 4 weeks. Loosening is imperative after this procedure in order to break the crust formed in the near-stem circle.
Good grooming includes mandatory pruning. It is carried out in spring or autumn, before the onset of sap flow or at its end, with complete foliage falling off. Summer pruning is indicated only for diseased plants, it is permissible to remove broken branches, but with the obligatory subsequent lubrication of the affected area with garden pitch. In the spring, vertical shoots, the so-called tops, as well as frozen and dried branches, are necessarily cut out from a young tree.
Pollination
The apple trees of Sinap Orlovsky are self-fertile. For a successful harvest, pollinators must grow nearby. In this capacity, the apple trees of Pepin's saffron, Sinap North, Antonovka ordinary usually act.
Top dressing
The variety is very sensitive to mineral fertilizing. Calcium deficiency in an apple tree is manifested by darkening and twisting of the foliage, the acquisition of characteristic bitterness by the fruits. In addition to the usual complexes, dolomite flour, slaked lime or ordinary chalk should be regularly added to the trunk circle. The apple tree also responds well to crushed eggshells.
Diseases and pests
The variety is not highly resistant to fungal diseases. Can be affected by pests. Shows medium resistance to scab. Often affected by aphids, it is recommended to pay special attention to spraying from this pest in the season. But only prevention is required from the moth, the tree does not attract this insect too much as a food source.
Sinap Orlovsky responds well to treatment with antifungal drugs based on beneficial bacterial cultures. Among them - "Fitosporin", "Alirin". They can be used even during the harvesting period, having waited only 1 day before removing the apples from the branches.
The apple tree is a popular fruit crop among gardeners. It can be found in many summer cottages. But at the same time, such trees are often affected by various diseases. It is very important to recognize the disease in time and carry out the necessary procedures for a speedy recovery. Otherwise, the fruits will be spoiled, and the tree itself may die altogether.
Review overview
Sinap Orlovsky is sometimes called the royal apple variety for its majestic size and high yields. But the owners mention that apple trees are sensitive to care and watering, feeding. With insufficient attention, there is a high probability that the tree will die or become sick. Formative pruning performed on the skeletal branches of young trees is also considered mandatory. Good care, according to gardeners, allows you to remove at least 50 kg of apples from each tree annually.
The negative opinions are mainly related to the height of the trees. Growing on a medium-sized rootstock is considered optimal; without it, the apple tree quickly reaches a trunk length of almost 6 meters. Harvesting in such conditions becomes much more difficult. But in terms of the duration of storage of fruits, Sinap Orlovsky is practically a champion; over time, his apples only become tastier and more aromatic. In addition, the owners note that fruiting occurs regularly, eliminating the need to purchase fruits in winter - they perfectly reach full ripeness in boxes.
