The apple tree Papiroyantarnoe is a variety developed by the specialists of the Sverdlovsk selection station of gardening and appeared as a result of crossing the apple trees Papirovka, Yantar and White filling. The presented variety receives approving assessments of experienced gardeners, and among novice summer residents there are more and more people who want to learn more about the cultivation of this plant.
Description of the variety
The tree is characterized by an average vigor of growth, its height is 5-6.5 m. The crown has a rounded shape, rather dense. The leaf plate is dark green in color and ovoid. Branches recede from the trunk at a wide angle. The flowers are white-pink in color.
Features, pros and cons
This variety adapts well to unusual soil types and new climates. And also among the advantages it is worth noting early maturity, winter hardiness, high immunity. Among the shortcomings, one can single out the self-fertility of the culture, as well as the short shelf life of the fruits, however, this apple tree belongs to varieties with a summer ripening period and, in comparison, for example, with its predecessor, the White filling variety, a storage period of 2-3 months is a very impressive period.
Ripening and fruiting
It is a fast-growing variety with a late summer ripening period. You can remove ripe fruits in September. The tree begins to bear fruit from 3-4 years of age, then regularly, every year.
Yield
The Papiroyantarnaya apple tree belongs to high-yielding varieties - from 1 hectare it is possible to get 62 centners of the crop.
Fruits and their taste
This is a versatile variety that can be used both for fresh consumption and for making jam, jam, compote. The fruits are yellowish or whitish in color and are round in shape. The mass of one apple is 100-150 g. The skin is dry, smooth to the touch, and the pulp is distinguished by its density, tenderness, juiciness, creamy fine-grained structure. The taste of the fruit is sweet and sour, dessert, very similar to the taste of its predecessor - Papirovka apples, according to the tasting score 4.4 points were given.
Growing features
The agricultural technology of the presented variety is not difficult, but it is important to follow the rules at the planting stage. Use a few guidelines.
The optimal landing date is late April - early May. It was during this period that the soil was already sufficiently warmed up. Some gardeners prefer autumn, October planting.
You can only grow an apple tree outdoors. The selected area should be well lit by the sun and located on a hill, away from the flow of groundwater.
The tree will thrive best in fertile, slightly acidic, breathable soil. Give preference to loam and sandy loam.
The step-by-step process of disembarkation looks like this.
Dig a planting hole 60 cm in diameter and 90 cm deep.
Separate the top and bottom soil layers. Place the top on the bottom.
Mix the bottom layer with compost, wood ash, mineral fertilizer, slaked lime. Place the resulting composition in the pit.
Make a 70 cm hole in the finished hole, and plant the seedling, gently spreading the roots.
Cover the remaining space with earth and compact the area well.
Water liberally and mulch the planting site.
Caring for the presented variety includes:
watering - it is done three times a month and stopped in mid-August;
loosening - this manipulation is performed every time after watering;
weeding - is the removal of weeds from the site as needed.
Pollination
By itself, the presented variety is self-infertile, which means that its pollination will require the proximity of varieties with the same ripening period. In this case, the tree is well pollinated.
Frost resistance
The winter hardiness of this apple tree is even higher than that of the original Papirovka variety. The tree can withstand very low temperatures, therefore it can be grown even in the Urals, but more often it is chosen for planting by residents of the Moscow region, northern and mountainous regions of Scandinavia. However, according to the experience of gardeners, in the first years, the bush should be covered for the winter, and already with age, the level of frost resistance increases, and shelter will not be required in subsequent years.
Diseases and pests
This variety is distinguished by exemplary immunity against insect attacks and diseases. Even scab, the most common enemy of the apple tree, is practically not capable of harming the culture. If the season is wet, there is a chance of infection. To avoid this, follow all the rules of agricultural technology.
Reviews
Summer residents who decided to plant a variety are attracted by simple tree care, but some of them are worried about the need to plant a crop of a different variety for pollination. And also many gardeners note that it is not possible to achieve a high yield immediately, but on an increasing basis, that is, in the first years the apple tree gives a meager harvest, but every year the number of apples increases many times over. Consumers highly appreciate the taste and aroma of the fruit, as well as the sugar content and softness of the jam made from apples of this variety.
The apple tree is a popular fruit crop among gardeners. It can be found in many summer cottages. But at the same time, such trees are often affected by various diseases. It is very important to recognize the disease in time and carry out the necessary procedures for a speedy recovery. Otherwise, the fruits will be spoiled, and the tree itself may die altogether.
