The development of new varieties on the territory of the Russian Federation has been going on for a long time. Breeders are constantly working to create more resilient and fertile varieties suitable for the country's diverse climatic zones and land types. Orlovskoe striped refers precisely to such crops.
Breeding history of the variety
The new plant was obtained by crossing the Mekintosh and Bessemyanka Michurinskaya apple trees at the All-Russian Scientific Institute for Hybridization of Fruit Crops. The authors of the selection are Sedov Evgeny Nikolaevich, Trofimova Taisiya Andreevna.
Hybridization of Orlovsky striped was carried out in the late 50s of the twentieth century, and the next year sowing measures were carried out. Only 8 years later, breeders were able to harvest their first crop. In the 1960s, Orlovskoe striped received the status of an elite variety.
A few years later, the culture was sent to the State test in order to obtain permission to use the variety and to regionalize it for the regions of Central Russia, the Black Earth Region and some territories of Belarus. The permit was obtained 16 years later, in 1986.
In the period 1977-1984, the variety was exhibited at international exhibitions of fruit trees held in Germany, where it was awarded a gold medal several times. In the late 1990s, the apple tree received its first diploma at the exhibition "Revival of the Russian Village", held in the exhibition-type complex "VDNH-EXPO".
Description of the variety
The tree reaches a maximum height of 5 meters. The crown of the apple tree is rounded, the shoots are dense, rather thick, maroon shade with prominent knees, there is a slight pubescence. Conical buds, pressed against the shoot. The branches of the apple tree grow almost at an angle of 90 degrees, the tips of the shoots are directed straight up, the bark of the lignified branches is smooth, brownish.
The leaf plate is large, wavy, broadly ovate in shape, with a pointed bent tip, colored deep green, shiny, with prominent wrinkles, coarse venation, prominent. Pubescence on the leaves is minimized. The petioles are medium in length, thickened, colored at the base in the color of the bark. The stipule is too small, may be absent or becomes lanceolate.
The flowers of the Oryol striped apple tree are large, in silhouette they look like a saucer. The buds are pinkish-white in color, the petals of the blossoming flowers are rounded, the hue retains throughout the entire flowering period. The stigma is located below the anther.
Features, pros and cons
Among the features of the variety, it is worth highlighting its yield (the tree bears fruit every year) and the high level of marketability of the fruit. Apples can be stored in a cold place for several months. The advantages also include excellent taste of the fruit, increased plant resistance to scab and early maturity.
But among the minuses, only the thinness of the apple skin can be distinguished, because of which the harvest should be carried out carefully so that traces of mechanical stress and lining do not appear on the apples.
Ripening and fruiting
Orlovskoe striped belongs to the late autumn varieties. Harvesting maturity occurs in the first weeks of September.Fruiting itself occurs in the 4th year of the tree's life after planting.
Yield
The yield of Orlovsky striped is considered medium, medium-high. At the age of 7-8 years, 40-50 kg of sweet fruits can be harvested from one tree; every year the fruitfulness of the apple tree increases. Already at the age of 10-15 years, one tree produces 60-80 kg of apples. And from one hectare you can harvest up to 200 quintals of apples!
Fruits and their taste
The apple is oblong, conical in shape, there are also rounded specimens. The skin of the fruit is smooth and shiny to the touch, but at the same time there is a gray oily wax-type coating. Light subcutaneous marks are visible on the fruit. The color of the apple is yellow-green or golden, when the fruit is ripe, with visible bright fuzzy stripes, specks of a rich crimson hue are also present. The seeds of the fruit are irregular, underdeveloped, dark brown, the seed chamber is open. The apple is not large, the weight of one fruit fluctuates around 120-150 g.
The apple tree has a strong aroma. The pulp of the fruit is juicy, whitish-creamy in shade, the texture is fine-grained. The taste is harmonious, there is a slight sourness. The tasting score is 4.2-4.6 points.
The following indicators are distinguished by chemical composition:
sugar - 10.1%;
titratable acid - 0.78%;
ascorbic acid - 8.2 mg / 100g;
the amount of P-active substances - 212 mg / 100g;
pectins - 10.7%.
Growing features
Despite the fact that the apple tree belongs to medium-sized crops, when planting, it is necessary to calculate the distance between trees or other plants at 3 meters. This is due to the fact that the variety takes a large amount of trace elements from the substrate. If the apple tree was planted near other crops, then it is necessary to carefully monitor the fertilization of the soil of all plants in the territory adjacent to the apple tree.
Top dressing
You need to fertilize the apple tree in the same way as other varieties, following the calendar. Spraying the crown with nutrients is allowed. If the soil is nutritious enough, then additional fertilization procedures can be performed only three times a year.
Frost resistance
The apple tree is quite winter-hardy, but for the first time young crops can be covered with dense material for easier adaptation of the plant to wintering.
Diseases and pests
Orlovskoe striped is a very resistant culture to scab. However, with improper care, the tree is affected by the moth, powdery mildew, aphids and cytosporosis.
To prevent the apple tree from getting sick with cytosporosis, it must be treated with copper sulfate in the spring. To increase immunity, preparations of the nitrophoska type are periodically introduced into the soil. All other diseases are treated with standard drugs, selected according to the type of disease.
In spring, the tree trunk can be whitewashed. After drying, it is necessary to mulch the near-trunk zone with needles or any dry material, the shelter additionally saves the fruit crop from rodents and other pests.
Not every autumn variety can boast of its keeping quality, like this variety. Orlovskoe striped unpretentious, beautiful, fast-growing and fruitful apple tree. For all this, she deservedly received her title and medals, and also won the hearts of farmers and ordinary amateur gardeners.
The apple tree is a popular fruit crop among gardeners. It can be found in many summer cottages. But at the same time, such trees are often affected by various diseases. It is very important to recognize the disease in time and carry out the necessary procedures for a speedy recovery. Otherwise, the fruits will be spoiled, and the tree itself may die altogether.
