Apple tree summer striped

Summer apple varieties are grown infrequently on industrial plantations. However, in almost every garden at the summer cottage, you can see early apple trees. They are varied, differing in color, taste, and shape. True, they are united by extremely poor keeping quality. And therefore, more often people are limited to one tree, in extreme cases - two. But all the same, their popularity does not fade away, especially since there are also such noteworthy varieties as Summer striped.

The Summer striped variety was bred on the basis of the South Ural Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetable and Potato Growing. The development was carried out by a specialist in this area P.A.Zhavoronkov. He is also credited with the authorship of the variety. The year 1965 was entered into the State Register, and in 1967 they began state tests.

Summer striped - vigorous plant. It grows to 4-6 m. It has a wide-rounded, slightly spreading and medium-thickened crown. Not very thick shoots, lighter than the trunk.

The foliage is not small, the shape of the leaves is elongated, the tip is slightly pointed. The foliage is dark green. The leaf blade is even, slightly pubescent, there is a matte surface with a wavy edge, slightly serrated. The petioles are not colored, short, with weak pubescence.

It blooms pink and white, with large cupped flowers.

The apple tree of this variety is chosen because of the features that attract many gardeners. First of all, this is an excellent marketability of fruits. The advantages include the versatility of fruits that can be consumed both fresh and processed (filling pies, compotes, jams).

Pros:

• annual and stable fruiting;
• high productivity;
• excellent immunity, including a fairly strong scab resistance;
• record frost resistance, up to -41 degrees Celsius.

Minuses:

• low transportability;
• from time to time fruits that have not reached maturity fall off;
• there is practically no keeping quality, which lasts no more than two weeks.

The early maturity of the variety is average. Apple trees begin to bear fruit only 5 or 6 years after planting. Summer striped, as you might guess from the name, refers to summer varieties in terms of ripening. Differs in regular fruiting.

The apple variety Letnee striped is zoned for the Ural region, namely Bashkiria, the Kurgan region, as well as the Orenburg and Chelyabinsk regions. Here the culture is the best among the early varieties. The apple tree is also loved in other regions and countries, for example, it grows well both in Ukraine and in Belarus.

If you look at the data of VNIISPK, then, on average, the Summer striped apple tree boasts quite rich harvests, and this is more than 200 centners per hectare. Gardeners remove from 70 to 80 kilograms from one tree.

Summer striped apples are not very large, but they cannot be called small, they grow up to 90-110 grams. But all the fruits are of the same size, beautiful shape, rounded-conical, while there is ribbing that is not too pronounced.The peel on the apples is smooth, dry to the touch, with a slight waxy bloom. As for the main color, it is greenish-white, and the integumentary color manifests itself as a striped red blush.

The pulp of the fruit is white, tender and juicy, rather loose, has a pleasant aroma. They note a sweet and sour taste, some even believe that the apples of the Summer striped are tastier and sweeter than the fruits of Grushovka Moscow.

It is better to plant varietal seedlings of Summer striped in the spring, since they are zoned for the Ural region, and in the fall it is very problematic to calculate the correct planting dates.

The variety is not too whimsical to care measures. In order to feel good on the ground, this culture will have enough nutritious and loose soil, a plot illuminated by the sun, as well as timely moderate watering. In addition, adult trees can even not be watered at all, if suddenly the summer turns out to be damp and not hot, which is often the case in this region.

However, spring pruning is a must. It is necessary to thin out the crown in order to rid it of thickening. This helps to maintain the health of the tree, as a well-lit and well-ventilated crown gives more light to the fruits and they will store more sugars. And this will affect the benefits and taste of the fruit.
