The dream of any gardener is an apple tree that will not require a lot of care, while at the same time it will delight you with an early ripening period and a stable harvest. The Dachnaya variety is just one of these.
Breeding history of the variety
The Sverdlovsk Experimental Gardening Station was engaged in the breeding of this apple tree. The following varieties were used as a source material for crossing:
Isetsky;
Melba;
Dream;
Candy.
Description of the variety
Trees grow with a wide-pyramidal crown, which becomes rounded over time. The branches have a shade of grayish-brown-yellow bark. They grow upward, but when a crop appears on them, they go a little to the sides.
Shoots are formed straight, their thickness is average. The color is brown, there is a slight pubescence.
Features, pros and cons
From the features of the described variety, strong growth can be distinguished at the beginning, while the plant is young. Each year, new branches are extended upwards by half a meter. Over the years, this process slows down, as the crown begins to form. Another feature is the unexpected decline in the harvest.
Of the advantages of this variety, one can single out not only good frost resistance, but also resistance to diseases such as scab, as well as early maturity.
Disadvantages are relative, for some they are not disadvantages. For example, loose flesh, if viewed from the side of a professional assessment, is always a minus.
Ripening and fruiting
Dachnaya's fruits ripen by mid-August. The first crop can be harvested only 4 or 5 years after planting the plant in the ground.
Growing regions
Most often, Dacha is grown in the Urals, but it can also be found in other regions of our country.
Yield
Dachnaya belongs to high-yielding varieties. According to gardeners, about 20 kg can be harvested from a young plant. Further, the yield increases.
Fruits and their taste
The fruits of the Dacha apple tree are intended to be eaten fresh. They are easy to identify by their monochromatic pale yellow color. There is no top blush, but sometimes a slight tan can be seen on the peel.
The apples are tall and have a rounded-conical shape. We can say that they are symmetrical. There is a slight ribbing. The weight of one Dachnaya apple varies from 95 to 110 grams.
The peel of the fruit is dry, but smooth. The apples themselves are sweet, with sourness. The tasters rated the fruits of this variety on a solid five.
Inside they have a coarse-grained, creamy flesh. It is characterized by looseness and moderate juiciness.
Fruits can lie up to 30 days after harvest.
Growing features
For planting Dachnaya, they choose a good sunny area, where the sun is all day, especially in the morning.On such a land, not only the soil but also the foliage warms up well and dries out, therefore the risk of fungal diseases is reduced.
Apple trees require an optimal pH (6.0-6.5) and rich, well-drained soil. It is best to place trees on a hill. Such a landing provides not only the necessary amount of sun around, but also good air circulation.
The best time to plant in the south is autumn and winter. In the north, it is early spring. Soak the roots in water for at least 30 minutes before planting to rehydrate. If the roots look very dry, soak them for one day.
Pollination
This is not a self-fertile variety, therefore, in order to get a harvest, another apple tree will need to be planted on the site - Anis Sverdlovsky.
Top dressing
Fertilizers play an important role for Dachnaya. Foliar dressing with urea (46% nitrogen) has been successfully used for a long time. It is brought in starting from 7-10 days after the petals fall. Top dressing is done no more than 3 times with an interval of about 10 days. Do not apply later than the end of July, so that the survival rate of the tree does not suffer.
Micronutrient or macronutrient deficiencies can adversely affect the overall harvest. Boron deficiency is perhaps the most common problem among gardeners. Lack of zinc, manganese and iron also appears, but not so often. This happens especially in alkaline or highly dispersed soils. It is best to use complex fertilizers.
However, don't overdo it. With Dachnaya, an excess amount of these elements in the soil will cause more damage than good. Fertilizers with a large amount of microelements are not used, unless a special soil analysis has revealed the need, or visible symptoms have not appeared. For example, with an excess of boron, apples ripen earlier and fall off, but at the same time they become toxic to humans.
Diseases and pests
The scab does not infect this cultivar, but it does not have sufficient resistance to powdery mildew. In the fight against the problem, infected branches are removed at the beginning of the season. If the lesions are large, a fungicide should be used.
The disease spreads when the buds open in the spring. This fungus does not kill the apple tree, but suppresses fertilization, which leads to a decrease in yield. This is the main reason why early prevention is so important.
The apple tree is a popular fruit crop among gardeners.It can be found in many summer cottages. But at the same time, such trees are often affected by various diseases. It is very important to recognize the disease in time and carry out the necessary procedures for a speedy recovery. Otherwise, the fruits will be spoiled, and the tree itself may die altogether.
