Everyone knows the Antonovka apple variety. He is known not only in our country, but also abroad. Antonovka Zolotaya is considered her clone, which was obtained by means of a random mutation.
Breeding history of the variety
Subsort Antonovka Zolotaya appeared relatively recently, approximately at the beginning of the XXI century, thus, it is a fairly new variety. There is not enough information about it yet; it has not been entered into the state register and has not been officially zoned anywhere.
Description of the variety
The apple-tree Antonovka Zolotaya differs little from the parent variety. It is quite unpretentious: it tolerates different soils equally well, excess or lack of moisture, even poor environmental conditions, such as gas pollution and air pollution. The trees of Antonovka Zolotoi are quite large, beautiful, and occupy a large section of the site. The height of the tree is 5-6 meters. The crown is spreading, the leaves are bright green, the shoots are even and strong. Antonovka Zolotaya blooms with large fragrant flowers that literally shower the branches, which makes the tree very elegant.
Features, pros and cons
Before planting fruitful trees, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with all the advantages and disadvantages of the Antonovka variety Zolotaya.
Advantages:
- unpretentiousness to growing conditions and care;
- excellent yield and taste characteristics;
- the universal purpose of ripe fruits;
- average ripening time: already at the end of August, the fruits are ready for consumption;
- stable immunity to scab damage.
Among the shortcomings, the short shelf life of ripe fruits and the cyclicity of the fruiting of plants are noted.
Ripening and fruiting
The variety is self-sterile. To ensure a high yield of an apple tree, it is necessary to plant a number of varieties that coincide in terms of flowering with Antonovka Zolotoy, and there are many of them. It will be quite easy to pick up pollinators, since the variety in question opens its buds in mid-May, when the predominant number of apple varieties bloom. Flowering lasts a long time, more than two weeks, the bees manage to pollinate all the trees during this time. The late summer variety ripens at the end of August. The tree begins to give fruit 5-6 years after planting in the ground.
Growing regions
Despite the fact that the variety is not officially zoned anywhere, it grows well in regions such as Crimea, the middle lane, as well as the Moscow region, the Leningrad region, the North Caucasus.
Yield
Antonovka Zolotaya is a high-yielding and early-growing variety of Antonovka. From an adult tree, you can get up to 13 kg of apples.
Fruits and their taste
The main difference between Antonovka Golden and Antonovka ordinary is the fruits of the late summer ripening period. They are considered very large, their weight ranges from 160 to 260 g. Large and beautiful apples have a deep yellow color. They are tasty and have a strong aroma. True, they do not lie for long and are difficult to transport. Fruits are round in shape, even spherical, sometimes slightly flattened or elongated. No side seam visible.
The same dense and thick skin has in common with the parent variety. It is elastic, but at the same time firm. Differs in smoothness, glossy surface, which may have a waxy oily coating.The color of the peel is yellow, rich or lemon, and after full ripening it becomes golden, which justifies its name. Sometimes the skin can be so transparent that even the seeds show through it. There is no cover blush, however, bright red blurred spots may appear from the side illuminated by the sun.
The pulp of Antonovka Zolotoy apples is fine-grained, dense, tender and sugar. It is easy to bite off, it is not prickly, juicy, has a rather strong aroma, which is difficult to confuse with other varieties. This subspecies is considered a dessert variety. The taste is sweet and sour, winey, quite harmonious and balanced, although there is no official tasting rating.
Growing features
As already mentioned, the variety is unpretentious. Therefore, the apple tree can be planted at any time. Both spring and autumn months are suitable for this. The only condition: there should be no sap flow, and the soil must be dry and warm. The culture will take root equally well in both cases. The optimal planting time for spring is late April or early May, and for autumn it is September, early October.
For winter, no measures for sheltering the variety are required. Only standard methods, moreover, in a temperate climate, not to mention a warm one, Antonovka Zolotaya does not need absolutely any shelter. Although young seedlings should still be covered with a tent method, and the trunks of adult trees should be wrapped in burlap at the bottom. And in order to protect the culture from rodents, which eat the bark of young plants in times of famine, the trunk can be smeared with grease, fuel oil, ghee, and bitter vegetable oil. Whitewash the trunk with lime will be useful against insects.
The apple tree is a popular fruit crop among gardeners. It can be found in many summer cottages. But at the same time, such trees are often affected by various diseases. It is very important to recognize the disease in time and carry out the necessary procedures for a speedy recovery. Otherwise, the fruits will be spoiled, and the tree itself may die altogether.
