Apple-tree Altai Rumyanoe is a good tree for the garden. This is a great option for the novice gardener. The variety is widespread in Russia.
Breeding history of the variety
The variety was bred by the Scientific Research Institute of Horticulture of Siberia named after V.I. M. A. Lisavenko. It appeared when crossing the ranetka varieties Severyanka and Melba, as well as Bellefleur-Chinese.
Description of the variety
It is a fast-growing species with a round, sparse and small crown. The foliage is large, egg-shaped. The leaves bend along the vein in the center. They have a matte, dark green color. The edges have a slight wave, a slight pubescence can be seen below.
Branches on the tree are oblique-vertical, large, gray-brown. Shoots are shortened. They are curved, rounded in cross-section, and have short internodes. There is a small fluff on the shoots.
Features, pros and cons
Main advantages:
- versatility of fruits;
- compact crown;
- environmental sustainability;
- winter hardiness;
- scab resistance;
- regular fruiting.
There are few disadvantages, the main one is small-sized fruits that are not stored for a long time.
Ripening and fruiting
If we talk about the ripening period, then Altai Rumyanoe belongs to the late summer varieties. In August, the ripeness of the fruit begins. The apple tree begins to bear fruit for 4-5 years.
Growing regions
This variety can be found in the Altai Territory, in the Urals, the Far East and even in Western Siberia.
Yield
During the period of full maturity of the tree, from 19 to 20 kg of apples can be harvested from it.
Fruits and their taste
The fruits are universal, which means that you can not only eat them, but also prepare compotes, jams, and preserves from them. They are dark cream, slightly orange in color. There are dark red streaks on the surface of the skin. All apples are symmetrical, the shape can be described as rounded. The weight can range from 55 to 90 grams.
Apples have a sweet and sour taste with a faint aroma. The inside is yellow, not very dense and juicy flesh. Such fruits can lie for up to two months. On a tree, if not collected in time, they crumble.
Growing features
It is worth planting trees when it is still cool outside. Avoid planting during severe frosts, seedlings should be planted in the ground in mid-autumn or early winter. Planting is also carried out in the spring. Before planting, it is recommended to soak the roots of the tree for several hours in water.
The planting hole should be twice as wide as the diameter of the plant roots and at least a meter deep. The larger the hole, the better the wood will be. These trees need space. It is advised to leave two meters between the seedlings, the roots have developed correctly. The distance also contributes to the formation of the crown.
Pollination
Before you take out the seedlings for planting, look around the area. The source of pollen should be within 100 meters of the apple tree you are planting. This is the only way to ensure the ingress of pollen on the tree. If there are no pollinators nearby, then several different varieties should be planted on the site at once, and not rely on insects that do not fly in bad weather and rains.
Top dressing
In the first three years of the apple tree's life, it is important to stimulate good root growth. This approach will help the tree to root and develop a complete network that will nourish the tree with everything it needs. Each year, a compost ring 6 centimeters thick is formed around the apple trees. From the trunk, this layer must be placed at a distance of another 6 centimeters.
Plant cover crops that provide nitrogen and other nutrients to your garden. Clover is probably the best option. It perfectly supplies the soil with nitrogen.
Frost resistance
Altai Rumyanoy has a high level of frost resistance. There is no need to harbor the culture.
Diseases and pests
The two main diseases affecting apples are apple scab and rot. The easiest way to avoid the problem is to plant a resistant strain. This is what we are describing. As a preventive measure, it is worth keeping the area clean. Fallen fruits and leaves, cut branches and weeds are removed from the site and burned throughout the year.
Fungicides are great for decay and other diseases. Insects can be easily controlled with biological control or insecticide.
The apple tree is a popular fruit crop among gardeners. It can be found in many summer cottages. But at the same time, such trees are often affected by various diseases. It is very important to recognize the disease in time and carry out the necessary procedures for a speedy recovery. Otherwise, the fruits will be spoiled, and the tree itself may die altogether.
