Features and tips for choosing flexible metal hoses

In order for the hood or any other equipment to work as efficiently as possible, it is necessary to choose the right flexible metal hoses. The essence of the hood boils down to the fact that it must provide air ventilation, as a result, third-party odors and smoke are removed from the room. Air filled with steam or smoke is discharged outside using a flexible hose.

The ventilation pipe is one of the most important components of a duct hood. In a single structure, it is connected from several parts, through which air is transported to the outside. Any air duct inside is equipped with special elements that provide a general ventilation process. They include:

• valves for the fire protection system;
• heaters;
• fans.

It is they who provide fresh air in the room, performing oxygen purification. In everyday life, flexible sleeves are usually used, and in production, solid ones are used. Only the woodworking and metallurgical industries use a flexible type of air duct. Hot or cold air is supplied through it, and smoke, steam or gas is also removed from the room.

If we talk about the size of the structure, then everything depends on the material from which it is made and on the individual needs of the buyer. Sleeve can be made to order. For this, a different material is used, for example, it can be fiberglass, PVC or vinyl urethane. Many manufacturers offer special clamps, a clamp or a nipple in the kit.

If a hose made of metal is selected, any of the following metal hoses with fittings can be used:

• fastened with a welding joint;

Sealed metal hoses are used not only in everyday life or at work, but also in ship equipment systems. They also make a flexible connection between the filling and pumping system. They can be used, for example, for a gas water heater in the kitchen or for a stove. Thanks to the corrugated surface, you can change the shape and length of the sleeve. All the main design features are discussed at the design stage and depend on the features of operation. The maximum diameter of the connecting structure can be up to 350 mm, the minimum is 6.

Despite the fact that air ducts are also used for the chimney, they must be kept clean. Both externally and internally. They must be free of any visible or invisible damage. Special products are used to clean the ventilation. Usually this work is performed by professional craftsmen of the company that made or installed the air duct. The timing of cleaning is discussed in advance, depending on the scope of the product and the medium that is discharged through the pipe.

It is important to check that the braid fits snugly against the surface. The presence of the mark indicates the type of product. Suppose a flexible product is marked with the abbreviation - RGM, the numbers indicate the description of the corrugations, the type of reinforcement, the outer sheath, the maximum temperature of the medium, the length and other characteristics.

The installation of a metal or aluminum sleeve is slightly different. Before fastening, it is important to exclude any bends by stretching the inner part and removing excess pipe. Sometimes the installer advises leaving part of the structure for further use if you want to make repairs, but this should not be done. The length must exactly match the requirements of the operation. An adapter should be used at the junction where the pipe enters the wall. It will help to avoid various deformations. Well, do not forget that a reliable bracket is responsible for the safety of the shell. When using two or more media, heat sinks should be used. Thanks to them, it will be possible to stabilize the temperature to the desired level.

If a product is used for furnace structures or boilers, it is imperative to follow all the rules for installation and subsequent operation. Otherwise, damage to the corrugation can be tolerated, which in the future will lead to malfunction of the equipment itself and harm human health. There are situations where the use of flexible ventilation hoses is undesirable. For example, this happens if:

• the air that passes through the sleeve is above the permissible temperature;
• the degree of heat resistance of the product is not taken into account;
• assumes operation in the open air without additional protection, when direct rays of the sun, water, low temperatures can affect the corrugation;
• if installation is carried out on vertical risers, the height of which exceeds 2 floors of the building;
• possible contact with aggressive media or abrasive materials.

After the issue with the choice of the sleeve is resolved, it is made and installed, you should take care of the interior of the room in which the installation was carried out. There are some tips on how to rationally disguise a flexible sleeve:

• purchase a built-in hood that closes with a hanging cabinet;
• decorate to match the color of furniture, walls or other parts of the interior;
• if a suspended ceiling is provided, hide the pipe in it.
