Cherry variety Dessertnaya Morozovaya is a frost-resistant and very sweet variety. Berries differ in dessert taste, they are used for fresh consumption, making desserts, freezing. Another name: Griot Ostheim's mutagen # 2.
Breeding history
The culture appeared in the All-Russian Research Institute of Horticulture. I. V. Michurin. Its author is T.V. Morozova, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences. According to the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Gossortkomissia", the variety appeared as a result of the re-pollination of Vladimirskaya cherries with Griot Ostgeimsky. Added to the State Register in 1997.
Description of the variety
The tree is of medium height, grows up to 3 m, with a spherical crown, spreading and sparse, with straight shoots of medium foliage. The bark is brown light. The leaves are large, obovate, with a crenate edge, non-shiny light green. The flowers are large white, bloom early. The tree is distinguished by a high growth rate, a life expectancy of 90-110 years. You can propagate by seeds, green cuttings, root shoots.
Fruit characteristics
The berries are large, up to 3-6 g, round, burgundy-red, the flesh is fleshy, soft, juicy, the stone is small, detachable. They have a good presentation, do not crumple during transportation.
Taste qualities
The taste is delicate and sweet, almost without acidity, contains sugar - 14%, fruit acid - 1.5%, ascorbic acid - 80 mg / l. Tasting score 4.6 points.
Ripening and fruiting
Cherries begin to bear fruit in the 4th year after planting. By the time of ripening, it belongs to the early species: it ripens in the second decade of June. The crop is not crumbled.
Yield
Typically, 20 kg are removed from the plant. With proper care, up to 40 kg of berries can be obtained from one tree. With sufficient watering, the fruits are larger; with a lack of moisture, they become smaller and become sour.
Growing regions
The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Central Black Earth Region. It will not take root in colder climates.
Self-fertility and the need for pollinators
The species is partially self-fertile; when placed alone it forms from 7 to 20% of ovaries. To increase yields, replanting of a pollinator variety is required. Suitable varieties: Griot Ostgeimsky, Griot Rossoshansky, Vladimirskaya, Studencheskaya, Molodezhnaya.
Landing
For seedlings, a sunny place is selected on the southern or southwestern side of the garden, protected from northern winds, often next to buildings. Trees with open roots are planted only in spring. The culture does not react well to closely located groundwater, they should not be located at a depth of 1.5-2 m. Do not plant next to linden, conifers, black currants, sea buckthorn, raspberries.
A pit for a seedling is made with a diameter of 60 cm and a depth of 60 cm.The plant is planted at a distance from other trees, an interval is made between the seedlings: 1.5-3 m.The humus or humus is added to the ground in proportions 1: 1, sand - 1 bucket, superphosphate - 30-40 g, potassium chloride - 20 g. A layer of ordinary garden soil is poured over the fertile mixture so that the roots do not come into contact with fertilizers. The planting procedure is the same as for other cherry trees. In the first year, 80% of the peduncles and half of the formed ovaries are necessarily cut off. In young plants, for the first 2-3 years, the near-stem circle is watered - once a week, loosened, weeds are removed. Then you can plant ground cover herbs in the root area.
Growing and care
To save buds from recurrent frost, there is a way to postpone early flowering. To do this, in March, before the beginning of snow melting, a large snowdrift is raked around the trunk.
Dessert Morozova should be watered several times per season: be sure to watered at the stage of spring awakening and during the formation of buds. At the beginning of flowering, watering is reduced, during the period of fruit formation, irrigate only if necessary. Be sure to watered abundantly at the time of laying flower buds for next year, potassium-phosphorus compounds are added to the water. This is done around the end of June after the harvest.
In hot weather, mature trees are watered no more than 2-4 times a month. Watering rate 2 buckets per tree - the portion is divided into two doses: morning and evening. In August, watering is stopped.
They are fed in spring: ammonium nitrate, superphosphate, potassium chloride, urea. Organic fertilizers are used in summer. Once every 6 years, lime 200-400 g is added to the soil.
Old branches tend to be bare. The tree needs formative and stimulating pruning to improve fruiting. Strongly thickened sections of the crown are regularly thinned out, the resulting root growth is cut off. The variety is suitable for large garden areas, as it requires planting alongside other species.
Disease and pest resistance
Dessertnaya Morozova is distinguished by good immunity to the main diseases of cherries. Shows good resistance to coccomycosis, even if infected plants are nearby. For prevention, it is recommended to treat in early spring with a solution of wood ash, salt and laundry soap in the proportions: 6: 1: 1.
Requirements for soil and climatic conditions
Dessertnaya Morozova was bred for a temperate continental climate, has high winter hardiness, can withstand temperatures up to -40 degrees. In the Central Black Earth Region of Russia, it winters well without shelter. Young plants must be covered completely. In areas with cold winters, it is recommended to wrap the stem and skeletal branches with dense material in an adult cherry. In case of freezing, the plant will no longer be able to recover completely. The culture is drought tolerant, but in hot seasons it needs regular watering.
The ideal soil is loam and sandy loam, sandy; sand must be added to heavy soils.
Review overview
Reviews of this variety are controversial. Some gardeners are delighted with a bountiful harvest and large sweet berries, while others have a very small crop and are often sick.
