Zarevo grapes belong to the dessert pink table varieties of medium late maturity. It grows well in a southern climate. For full maturation, it needs a long warm period in the absence of rain.
Breeding history
Presumably, for the first time, the Zarevo variety was bred by Moldovan breeding specialists. The parental pair were Moldova and Cardinal grape varieties. Synonyms for the name of the resulting hybrid: Roadside, Sport-2.
Description
Strong vine demonstrates active growth. Green leaves with a jagged edge, five-pointed, with prominent veins.
Ripening period
Ripens in 130-140 days. A medium-late grape variety requires a long warm period of time for the berries to pick up sweetness.
Bunches
Thunderstorms are cylindro-conical, medium density or loose. The weight of each individual bunch is 700-800 g.
Berries
Dark pink berries of an oval-elongated shape. The weight of a large berry is about 14 g.
Taste
The harmonious taste is due to the content of sugar in the grapes 160-170 g / dm3 with an acidity of 7-8 g / dm3. Assessment of tasters 8.6 points.
The pinkish-greenish flesh is fleshy and juicy. The peel is dense, almost not felt when biting and chewing.
Yield
If the harvest is premature, the berries do not pick up sweets. The taste is sour.
Growing features
Variety is strong and vigorous, with a good level of ripening, abundant fruit. But subject to compliance with certain standards of agricultural technology.
Landing
You can plant grapes from mid-October until the onset of frost, as well as from the arrival of April to mid-May.
Heat-loving grapes are planted in the sunny part of the site, protected from wind blowing. Preferably on sandy soil.
Deep holes are created in the selected place. If planting is done in a row, a trench is dug. Supports must be installed for the vine.
Zarevo is a large variety that requires a lot of space to grow. It is necessary to place seedlings in a row, observing a distance of 2.5 m between them.
When planted in a hole, its volume determines the size of the root system. The plant is planted to a depth of 60-80 cm. Drainage from rubble is required at the bottom of the holes. A couple of buckets of organic matter are also poured there. It can be compost or rotten manure.
Also add 1.5 kg of ash plus a mineral complex in the amount of 300 mg. Fertile soil is poured on top. The planting is watered with water, pouring out 2 buckets. Mulching is required.
Pollination
The flowers of the plant are bisexual, pollination does not require special conditions.Approximately 60% of the shoots bear fruit.
Pruning
The vines are removed, leaving up to 45 buds on the bush. Long pruning is recommended, from 12 eyes.
Watering
Grapes can develop fully only with sufficient moisture. Plants need watering 4 times per season:
after the foliage opens;
two weeks before flowering;
after the ovaries are formed;
after harvest.
For one watering, 10 liters of water are poured under the bush. It is forbidden to water the Glow at the time of flowering. This leads to shedding of flowers and a decrease in productivity indicators.
Top dressing
The culture is fed with mineral complexes, strictly according to the instructions. Once in 2 seasons, organic fertilizing with compost or rotten manure is used.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
Withstands up to -22 degrees, but needs shelter even when growing in the southern regions. At the end of autumn, the vines are lowered from the trellis to the ground, placing sheets of plywood. Cover with coniferous spruce branches on top.
Diseases and pests
Shows mediocre susceptibility to gray mold damage. The susceptibility of the variety to downy mildew can be interpreted in a similar way. Moderately resistant to anthracnose grapes.
In order to prevent planting, you need to inspect every week, thinning the shoots. Fallen leaves are burned. Against the development of fungal infections, plants are sprayed with fungicides. Leaves with a whitish bloom and blotches in the form of oily spots are important to cut off in time and immediately burn.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
Mid-late grapes Zarevo can remain on the bushes until the very frost. Stored in a ventilated dark place, ideally in the basement. Grape bunches are laid out in layers in boxes on coniferous sawdust, sprinkled on top with them. The bunches are periodically inspected, removing rotten berries.
Review overview
Some gardeners who are passionate about growing grapes consider Zarevo to be a rather delicate representative of the culture.
Timely harvesting guarantees good transportability of fruits and their long-term preservation.
Such grapes would be a wonderful decoration for vineyards in the autumn season, if the berries were not prone to severe cracking during the rainy season. This disadvantage is indicated by most of the reviews of winegrowers growing this variety.
On powerful bushes, varietal characteristics are significantly improved, and the bunches ripen much larger, gaining weight up to 1.5 kg or more.
