The Kishmish Zaporozhye variety combines many positive qualities, which is why this variety has become widespread. The bunches are large, the berries are aromatic and tasty. The fruits can be eaten both fresh and used for preparing meals and drinks.
Breeding history
The name of this variety indicates where it comes from. Kishmish Zaporozhye appeared thanks to the efforts of the Zaporozhye breeder Evgeny Klyuchikov. He combined two varieties: Rusball and Victoria. As a result, a new horticultural crop was developed, which is distinguished by high yields and frost resistance.
Description
The foliage of the bushes is colored in a standard, rich green color. During the fruiting period, the grapes are covered with large bunches. The percentage of fruitful shoots is high and is 95%. Cuttings are light red.
Ripening period
The ripening period of the crop is from 110 to 115 days. This species is early maturing. The growing season starts with the opening of the first buds. This happens in early or mid-April. It all depends on the weather conditions in a particular region. The crop can be harvested at the end of July. The last fruits are harvested around mid-August.
Note: If the fruits need to be prepared for storage for the winter, it is advisable to harvest them as early as possible.
Bunches
The bunches are large and weighty. The density index is average. The shape is conical. Average weight varies from 700 to 900 grams, but some specimens can reach one and a half kilograms. Clusters with a wing are often found. This feature leads to the fact that the bush overloads itself with a bountiful harvest.
Berries
The berries of this variety are characterized by a rich palette of shades: from rich red to dark purple. There are no bones inside. The weight of one berry is from 3 to 3.5 grams. Size (in millimeters) - 19x17. The shape is an oval. The pulp is very juicy and fleshy.
Taste
Experts describe the taste of the variety as harmonious, ripe berries resemble marmalade. At the same time, pleasant sour notes are preserved. The fruit has a wide range of uses. They make juice, desserts and various drinks. And also grapes are suitable for canning or raisins.
Yield
The main advantage of horticultural crops is a high yield rate. This indicator can only be achieved with proper and regular care. During the season, about 30 kilograms of the crop can be harvested from one bush. This is the average that is possible in all weather conditions. When using top dressing, you can achieve better results. And also the length of daylight affects the number and size of fruits.
Growing features
Kishmish Zaporozhye is a vigorous plant, so it needs to be molded. This characteristic must be taken into account when growing a variety. Due to innate frost resistance, grapes can withstand up to 26 degrees of frost.
Landing
It is recommended to plant seedlings in spring or autumn. When choosing the first option, the optimal time is considered from the end of March to the beginning of the second spring month. In this case, the grapes will adapt to weather conditions and will be able to survive both sudden temperature changes and severe cold snaps.
Experienced gardeners note that when cultivating, it is necessary to arrange rows on an insignificant height. Direction - from north to south. The required distance between the rows is from 2 to 3 meters. When planting grapes in spring, you need to carefully monitor the temperature of the soil and the weather. The soil must be warm enough, otherwise the seedlings may suffer. With the onset of autumn, after transferring the grapes to a permanent site, the plant needs to be covered.
Pollination
The grapes are able to pollinate on their own due to the bisexual flowers. The flowering period begins in the summer.
Pruning
A mandatory procedure for grapes of this variety is pruning. If the work is not completed on time, the quality of the crop will be significantly reduced. It is worth noting that the plant is prone to overload, so the excess shoots are removed. Gardeners advise leaving 25 to 33 eyes on the bush. It is recommended to cut the vine at once by 6-7 eyes. As soon as the winter frost has finally receded, you can start pruning. And also the plant should be rid of damaged, diseased and weak branches.
Watering
Stagnation of moisture is dangerous for grapes, it can lead to the death of the plant. Therefore, you need to be careful when irrigating. Kishmish Zaporozhye needs to be watered once a week. For one plant, from 3 to 4 buckets of water are used, depending on the air temperature and the climate of the region.
Top dressing
The use of fertilizers is indispensable to obtain a bountiful and tasty harvest. Experts advise to apply top dressing throughout the entire growing season - 4-5 times per season. Organic formulations used dry are best.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
This variety is not afraid of frost, which is why it can be grown in the northern regions. Due to this innate characteristic, the grapes do not need to be covered for the winter. Despite this characteristic, grapes can still be protected from severe frosts. To do this, you need to remove the vine, transfer it to the ground and cover with coniferous branches. And you can also use special agrofibre.
Experienced gardeners recommend avoiding dry grass or foliage. Rodents can hide in it, which will harm the plant.
Young plants are much more sensitive to the vagaries of the weather than adult bushes, so they need shelter.
Diseases and pests
A versatile grape variety with increased resistance to common diseases and infections. The plant is rarely affected by such diseases: grape rot, mildew, powdery mildew. However, some insects, such as wasps, pose a great danger to the plant. The sweet smell attracts their attention and they begin to eat the harvest. To protect the bunches, use special bags made of thin but durable fabric. Fruits are placed in them in the process of ripening.
To make the garden culture feel comfortable, it is recommended not to abandon preventive treatment. The necessary formulations can be purchased at any specialized store.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
Harvested berries are not recommended to be stored for a long time. From this, they lose their taste and mouth-watering aroma. And also the crop cannot boast of high transportability.
