Both adults and children love grapes, so the geography of distribution of this plant is very extensive. Today we will focus on the Tulip grape variety. He won the hearts of many winegrowers.
Breeding history
Tulip is one of the new hybrid forms of grapes. Bred by the Russian breeder Evgeny Georgievich Poplavsky by crossing the varieties Gift Zaporozhye and Cardinal. Synonym for the name B-3-0.
Geography of distribution
This variety has appeared on the market not so long ago, so the geography of its distribution is still small. It is possible to grow a plant of the variety both in the southern and northern regions. Only the care of the crop and the ripening time will differ slightly.
Description
This complex hybrid of grapes has a medium-sized bush, bisexual flowers. Ripening refers to early varieties. The bushes are quite sprawling, the vine ripens well. By appointment it belongs to the table variety. The leaves are medium in size, have a beautiful carved border around the edge. The variety is used both for ordinary food intake and in canned form. Great for making compotes, jams.
Ripening period
As already mentioned, the variety belongs to the early, even very early ones, since from the beginning of the growing season to the ripening of the berries it takes from 90 to 100 days. In the southern regions, the berries ripen by the end of July.
Bunches
The bunches are large, with an average weight of 648 g, the growers assure that with good agrotechnical care, bunches weighing up to 1 kg can be obtained. The shape of the bunch is conical, has an average density. This allows the berries to keep their presentation longer.
Berries
Tulip berries are large, the weight of one grape is from 9.4 to 13 g. Fleshy-juicy, slightly crunchy flesh is protected by a dense skin that does not allow the berry to crack. When fully ripe, the berries acquire a dark red color. Berries are oval in shape
Taste
The Tulip grape surprises with its unusual harmonious taste. A light note of nutmeg is felt at the first bite of the berry.
Yield
Gardeners and winegrowers who practice the cultivation of this variety say that the variety is high-yielding, up to 50 kg of excellent berries can be harvested from one bush. In the southern regions, yields are higher than in the northern ones, due to more favorable weather conditions.
Growing features
In order to get a good harvest, you need to follow the rules. The grapes should be planted in a well-lit and draft-free area. It is better to place rows of grapes on the south side - this will serve to uniform ripening of the crop.
Landing
Before you start planting, you should make bulk beds. This is necessary so that the water does not stagnate during irrigation or during rains, and the roots are not affected by fungal diseases. And also, due to excess water, the development and growth of the bush can slow down. For planting grapes, the pit must be prepared in the fall. The pit should be 80 cm deep and 70 cm wide. The bottom is fertilized with a mixture of compost and soil. Before planting grapes, you need to prepare them. The roots are cut and placed in plain water for a day. Root pruning is done with a sharp knife or pruning shears. Then they are planted in a prepared hole and sprinkled with earth. It is important not to cover the neck with soil. Otherwise, the vine can rot. The land around the bush must be tamped and watered. So that the plant does not have a shock from which growth will slow down, the water must be warm.
Pollination
Since the flowers of this variety are bisexual, pollination can occur both independently and with the help of insects.
Pruning
In order for the bush to form correctly, like all varieties, this grape also requires pruning of the vine. It is pruned in both autumn and spring. In autumn, all damaged and dried vines are removed. 5 to 7 healthy buds are left on the vine. In the spring, remove all the vines that could be damaged by frost.
Watering
For a good harvest, this variety needs regular and correct watering. This should be done once a week when there is no rain. One bush requires 2 buckets of water. Drip irrigation is also encouraged.
Top dressing
Top dressing is carried out twice during the growing season: in spring and autumn. Humus and mineral fertilizers are used as top dressing. It is very good to use manure for the growth of grapes, as well as fertilizers that contain nitrogen and ash.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
The variety is quite resistant to frost, tolerates temperatures down to –22 ° C, but in the northern regions, the vine must be sheltered. To do this, the vine is pressed to the ground and covered with a film or other material.
Diseases and pests
The tulip is very resistant to disease, but prevention is necessary so as not to risk the harvest. You need to process the bushes in the spring. To do this, you can use any means that are designed to treat plants from diseases. Copper sulfate is often used - it will also protect the grapes from insect pests.
If the grapes are exposed to any disease or insect, this is always reflected in its appearance.
Storage
The grapes are well stored, since its dense skin on the berry does not crack. This allows the crop to be transported to other regions. For storing berries, you should use cool rooms, so the berries will retain their presentation longer and will not change their taste.
This variety still needs to be studied, since it was grown not so long ago, but at the same time it has already established itself quite well among winegrowers.
