The variety called "Timur" has many positive characteristics, thanks to which it has become widespread among experienced gardeners. He is not afraid of many diseases, and also easily tolerates frost. Even in harsh conditions, grapes can bear fruit stably. The main thing is to take into account the peculiarities of agricultural technology of this variety and follow them.
Breeding history
This type of fruit crop appeared due to the efforts of Russian breeders. Professionals worked on the basis of the All-Russian Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking named after V.I. Ya.I. Potapenko. A new variety appeared at the end of the 20th century, as a result of crossing the varieties Frumoasa Albe and Vostorg. Table grapes have inherited high disease resistance and other characteristics of their parent plants.
Description
The bushes of this variety are undersized and compact. At the same time, the percentage of fruitful shoots reaches 80. On each of them, up to 3 large bunches can ripen. The leaves are large, three-lobed. Due to its high decorative qualities, the plant is often used for decorating land plots and creating hedges.
Ripening period
The ripening period is from 105 to 115 days. This characteristic indicates that Timur grapes belong to early varieties.
Bunches
Bunches of this variety can be both cylindrical and conical. Density - loose but moderate. The weight is about 0.5 kilograms (400 to 600 grams). Peas are observed in unfavorable weather conditions.
Berries
Ripe fruits become amber. Under the influence of sunlight, a slight brown tan appears on the berries. The skin is thin, it bursts quickly during the process of eating and is practically not felt. The flesh is firm and very crispy. The shape of the berries can be described as nipple-like. Some gardeners point to an oval shape with a pointed tip. The average berry weight is 6-8 grams. Large size - 29x21 (in millimeters). Inside there are 1 to 3 seeds. The fruits are suitable for drying.
Taste
The taste of Timur fruit can be described as nutmeg. The sugar content is high and ranges from 17 to 22 g / dm³. Ripe fruits attract attention with an appetizing nutmeg aroma. The acidity index is from 6 to 9 g / dm³.
Yield
From one bush, you can collect from 15 to 20 kilograms of fruit. With proper care, the harvest will be stable and of high quality.
Growing features
The growth vigor of Timur grapes is medium or weak. The plant can withstand severe frosts, so the variety can be grown in the northern regions of the country. Irrigate the grapes in moderation.The amount of watering should be increased during flowering. For the berries to be large and sweet, you need to periodically use root dressings.
Landing
Seedlings are planted in autumn or spring. When choosing the first option, the work must be done before the first frost begins. The optimal period is from September to October. In spring, grapes are planted when the warm weather has already taken hold, from May to June. The variety feels comfortable on light and fertile soil, which does not interfere with natural oxygen exchange.
During the planting process, consider the following:
- cuttings take root remarkably, so this variety is often grafted onto other, vigorous grapes;
- the best place for planting is a well-lit area, it is desirable that there are no tall trees or buildings nearby that will cast a shadow;
- according to experienced experts, the sweetest berries grow on sandy soils.
Pollination
During the flowering period, the grapes are covered with bisexual light green buds, collected in inflorescences. The variety is capable of pollinating on its own, therefore it does not need pollinating plants.
Pruning
As the grapes grow, they form many stepchildren. They bear excellent fruit, no worse than the main vine. However, to increase fruiting, you need to prune at least once a year. For this variety, you can choose both long and short pruning. In most cases, the second option is chosen, in which 2 to 4 eyes are left, no more. Through short pruning, the bush gets the correct shape, and the harvest becomes larger and more abundant.
It is necessary to monitor the density of the green mass in the summer. The branches are pruned, and the excess shoots are removed. In order not to overload the bush, 1 to 2 bunches are left on it.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
The hybrid variety turned out to be frost-resistant. The plant can withstand frosts up to 25 degrees Celsius below zero without any problems. Therefore, if the vineyards are located in the central or southern strip, it is not necessary to cover the plant. In the northern regions, the variety must be protected from the vagaries of the weather.
Diseases and pests
Timur grape has an innate high resistance to mildew and powdery mildew. In order to protect the garden culture from other diseases, it is necessary to periodically carry out treatment with the help of prophylactic formulations. Despite its resistance to some diseases, the plant is afraid of the grape mite.
The sweet fruit quickly attracts the attention of birds and wasps who want to feast on the sugar syrup. So that the crop does not suffer, the bunches are protected with a special dense mesh. They also use cloth bags.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
A ripe crop can be left on the bush for up to two weeks. During this time, the berries will become even sweeter. The harvested crop is best kept in the refrigerator or any other cool place. It will retain its freshness and attractive appearance for up to 12 days.
