A variety of grapes with an unusual name, Supaga, deserves special attention from gardeners due to its many positive features. Due to its high decorative qualities, the plant is perfect for decorating living compositions and landscape design. The expressive taste and aroma of the fruit should be noted.
Breeding history
A hybrid grape variety called Supaga was bred by a professional breeder from Latvia - Paul Sukatniek. The specialist used early varieties of garden culture from France.
Note: to compose the name of the new variety, the first syllables of the name and surnames of the breeder himself, as well as his wife, were used.
Description
Gardeners note the great vigor of grape growth. In one season, the growth of the vine reaches 90%. Which in terms of meters means about 7. Bushes attract attention with dense foliage of dark green color. A distinctive feature is red streaks. Due to this characteristic, the variety is often used to decorate land plots and adjoining territories.
Ripening period
From the moment of the start of spring budding to the ripening of the fruits, it takes from 115 to 120 days. This characteristic indicates the early maturation of the grapes. Harvested, as a rule, in early August. The work is completed in early autumn. Berries can be left on the bushes for a long time. Due to this, they become sweeter and more aromatic.
Bunches
The bunches are conical in shape with lateral wings. Average weight varies from 350 to 400 grams, some specimens reach 600 grams. It depends on the region of cultivation, weather conditions and plant care. The fruits are of medium density, but this feature does not affect the quality of the crop.
Berries
Ripe berries turn green with a yellow tint. The acid index is from 5 to 7 g / dm³. The fruits are covered with a dense peel, while it does not interfere with eating the fruits in their natural form. The pulp is moderately dense, not slimy. The shape may resemble a faint oval or circle. The berry weighs about 5 grams. The sizes are large.
Taste
The taste of the fruit is described as pleasant and harmonious, with a slight hint of sourness. Experts describe it as isable and labrus. The sugar content is from 170 to 280 g / dm³. Professional tasters gave this variety 7.4 points out of 10 maximum. Ripe fruits can taste like honey and strawberry. And also there is a light nutmeg aroma that awakens the appetite.
Yield
This variety boasts a high and stable yield. From one bush, they collect from 50 to 70 kilograms of berries. The harvest depends on the region of cultivation and competent care of the horticultural culture.
Growing features
This variety is recommended for novice gardeners due to simple agricultural techniques. The plant feels great on any soil. In this case, you need to choose a sunny location, protected from drafts and strong gusts of wind. And also you need to take care of fertilizing, and carefully monitor the condition of the grapes. Use medicinal and prophylactic formulations if necessary.
Landing
Experienced gardeners who have been growing this variety for several years are advised to plant the plant in spring. In this case, the plant adapts more easily to a new area and will successfully survive the winter. Despite the whimsical nature of the soil, soil with an acidity of 6 pH is best suited for grapes. The optimal location of groundwater is from 1.5 to 2 meters. With the arrival of autumn, the territory is cleared of weeds and leaves.
Pollination
The flowers of the variety are capable of pollinating on their own.
Pruning
It is recommended to carry out pruning in the cold season, until the process of moving the juices inside the grapes has begun. It is recommended to leave 4 to 6 buds on the vine. When choosing a two-lane molding, from 60 to 70 buds are left; in a single-lane cultivation, the maximum number of eyes should not exceed 35 eyes.
Excess leaves also need to be removed regularly, as they negatively affect the quality of the crop. The foliage will take away the strength of the plant and prevent the sun's rays. And also you should get rid of "single" stepsons.
Watering
Watering the grapes infrequently. It is enough to irrigate only 3-4 times a year. Water is added in small volumes. 2 buckets are poured under one bush. This amount is sufficient to maintain optimal moisture levels. And you can also use mulch, which will prevent the top layer of the earth from drying out. For mulching, you can use onion husks or grass cuttings.
Top dressing
The grapes are fed with compounds that are rich in nitrogen, potassium or phosphorus. Such substances are used in the spring. Organic fertilizers are applied 2-3 times a year. Humus or manure is great. And also organic is advised to use in the fall. 4 kilograms of manure are consumed per square meter.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
It is not necessary to cover this variety for the winter. Due to its strong root system, the Supaga variety can withstand frosts down to –25 degrees Celsius. However, if the vineyard is located in the northern strip, it is recommended to protect the young bushes from frost by means of insulation.
Diseases and pests
Fruit crops are not afraid of gray rot. And also grapes are not afraid of oidium and mildew. Despite the innate resistance, chlorosis and phylloxera are dangerous for grapes.Experts recommend treating grapes twice a season as a preventive measure. For processing, a one percent solution based on copper sulfate is great.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
You can store the fruits of table grapes for 1-2 months, while the temperature in the room should be from 5 to 8 degrees Celsius with a plus sign. Due to the dense peel, the berries can easily tolerate long-term transportation.
