Every amateur gardener would like to have on his site unpretentious grapes in care with an unforgettable taste. This grape variety is called Sponsor.
Breeding history
The author of this variety was the Russian scientist-breeder Poplavsky Evgeny Georgievich. Talisman and Sprinter became the progenitors of the variety. The breeder has set himself the task of developing a grape that will be resistant to disease and weather and climatic conditions. And he succeeded. Since the Sponsor has been grown recently, it has not yet been fully studied, but has already won the hearts of winegrowers.
Geography of distribution
This variety is widespread in the central and southern regions, possibly due to the fact that it is not hardy enough. In the northern regions, the cultivation of the Sponsor is still little practice.
Description
It is a table hybrid form of white grapes. The bushes are vigorous, the vine ripens well along its entire length, the shoots of the two-year-old acquire a golden brown hue. Reddish knots form on these shoots. One shoot usually has 2 inflorescences. The foliage is large, rounded, has a dark green color, along the edge of the leaf there is a carved border. The stalks are long and strong, light green in color. The variety has bisexual flowers, which are inherent in many varieties bred by Poplavsky.
Ripening period
According to the ripening of berries, grapes belong to the early varieties, maturity occurs approximately 115-120 days after the beginning of the growing season. In the second half of August, it is already possible to harvest.
Bunches
The bunches are conical in shape. Loose or medium density. The weight of the bunch is quite large, on average it weighs 632 g. With good agricultural care and favorable weather conditions, the weight of a bunch can reach 1 kg.
Berries
The berries on the brush are white and have a golden amber hue. The shape of the berries is oval. Usually they are large, weighing up to 10.4 g. In case of bad weather conditions, peas can sometimes be seen. The fleshy-juicy pulp is covered with a skin of medium density, which, when eaten, crunches slightly. And also the skin does not crack, which characterizes the good transportability of this grape variety. There are seeds inside the berries, but there are not many of them. The berries of this variety are resistant to wasps, for some reason they fly around them, thus the berries do not deteriorate longer.
Taste
After the berries are fully ripe, when eaten, a bright nutmeg flavor is felt, which is not very typical for white grape varieties.
Yield
The sponsor is characterized by a very high yield, up to 45-50 kg of excellent berries are harvested from one bush.
Growing features
For growing these grapes, it is better to choose an area that is on the sunny side, because the variety loves warmth and light. It is better to plant it on a loose bed, so that when watering and during rains, the water does not stagnate at the planting site. Severe waterlogging has a bad effect on the roots of grapes.
Landing
It is better to plant grapes in spring, but the holes for planting need to start preparing in the fall. The pit should be 75 cm deep, about the same width. The resulting hole must be fertilized, for this it is necessary to mix the soil with compost in a ratio of 1 to 1. Before planting, the roots of the planting material are cut and placed in water for about a day. Then the seedling is placed in the hole, spreading the roots well, covered with earth and tamped. After that, it is necessary to water the planted material with warm water. It is not recommended to use cold water, as the plant may be shocked and growth will slow down.
Pollination
Since the variety has bisexual flowers, self-pollination occurs in most cases. It can also be pollinated by insects.
Pruning
Like many varieties, these grapes also require pruning. Dry and damaged shoots are removed completely, the rest are cut off, leaving 5-6 buds on the vine. This can be done both in autumn and spring.
Watering
You need to water the grapes about 2 times a month. If it rains often, then watering is done less often, in the absence of rain, it is watered once a week. One bush requires 2 buckets of water. It is important that the ground is wet by 45 cm, it is at this depth that the roots are located.
Top dressing
You need to feed the plant twice during the growing season. Both mineral fertilizers and organic matter can be used as fertilizer. Rotten manure is excellent.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
The variety is not very resistant to frost. The lowest temperature tolerated by the variety is -23 ° C, so for the winter the vine is pressed to the ground and covered.
Diseases and pests
The variety is quite resistant to pests and diseases. For prophylaxis, it is enough to treat the vines a couple of times a season with any means against diseases. It will also protect the grapes from insects.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
The grapes are well stored in a cool place, they tolerate transportation to other regions perfectly. Thanks to the good skin on the berry, the fruits do not burst and retain their presentation for a long time.
