Charada UA is a hybrid grape variety that is characterized by excellent taste and an optimal ratio of natural sugar to grape acids in the berry.
Breeding history
The described grape variety was created in Ukraine; breeder Grechko M.A.
Description
The Charada UA grape is a vine with a fairly strong vigor. Its length can reach 15-20 m, the thickness of the branch is up to 50 mm in diameter. The color of the shoots is gray-brown, their surface is slightly flaky.
The leaf is quite large, up to 20 cm; at the base of the vine, as a rule, more than at its top. There is a slight pubescence on the seamy side of the leaf, the upper surface is smooth and slightly glossy. During the summer, the leaf has a bright green color, and by autumn it becomes brown-red, brown, orange. The vine, covered with colorful leaves and dark blue berries, becomes a real decoration of the garden in autumn.
Ripening period
Charada grapes ripen in about 130-140 days. This variety is considered to be quite early, so the harvest begins in early August, in very warm years it shifts to the end of July.
Bunches
Bunches of grapes have a conical or cylindro-conical shape, slightly elongated, and look very beautiful. The berries are not too densely located on them, but evenly. The length of the bunch is 25-35 cm, the width is about 15 cm. The weight of one bunch varies between 400-800 g. The berries sit tightly on it, do not crumble upon reaching maturity, which favorably affects the transportability of this grape.
Berries
The grapes of the Charada UA variety are dark blue or purple, with a slight bloom. They are almond-shaped, slightly blunt at the edges. The size of the fruits is rather large - they reach 35 mm in length and up to 25 mm in diameter. Their weight ranges from 10-14 g. It is noteworthy that Charada UA berries are not afraid of excess moisture and therefore are practically not subject to cracking, which has a good effect on their storage.
Taste
The taste of Charada UA grapes is harmonious, the pulp is moderately fleshy, juicy, aromatic. The sweetness reaches its maximum values at ripening, that is, in August.
Yield
With proper care and watering, one mature vine of the Charada UA grape variety can be harvested up to 18 kg per season. This indicator decreases if you do not carry out annual sanitary pruning and thereby ration the amount of the crop.
Growing features
Like any grape, Sharada UA prefers fertile soils with a high content of nutrients, therefore, if the land on your site is not nutritious, then you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizers to it.
It is worth planting grapes in sunny areas without shading. Immediately, it is necessary to provide a support for the vine - this can be a wall of a house, a fence or a strong support. It is important that there is something for the antennae to catch on to the support, otherwise it will be difficult for the vine to reach up.
Landing
When planting a seedling Sharady UA, it is necessary to add humus to the bottom of the hole along with a complex of any mineral fertilizers. This will ensure stable growth and development of the bush for about 3 years.
An example of such a mixture:
- 1 part humus or last year's compost;
- 1 part sand (preferably river sand);
- 1 part of black soil or fertile sod;
- 0.1 part of wood ash.
Superphosphate should be added to this mixture at the rate of 300 g per plant.
This composition is laid on a layer of drainage (pebbles or gravel), well compacted and spilled. Above is the root system of the vine. Then all this is covered with earth. If the planting is carried out in the fall, then immediately after planting the seedling can be insulated and covered for the winter.
Pollination
The Charada UA grape is bisexual and therefore self-pollinates. This process will be more efficient thanks to pollinating insects or the wind, which carries pollen from one flower to another.
Pruning
If you ignore such a procedure as pruning the vine, then over time, the yield will significantly decrease. Thickening negatively affects the number of ovaries, so every year you need to remove young shoots before they become woody. Old and dead branches are also removed. Excess healthy shoots are cut to 4 leaves.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
The grapes of the described variety have an average resistance to frost. It is able to withstand short-term frosts down to -19 degrees. As a rule, at least once a winter, even in warm regions of the Chernozem region, there are periods when the temperature drops even lower, so it is necessary to cover the vine in the fall.
Diseases and pests
Charada UA is relatively resistant to many infectious diseases, if it does not grow on waterlogged soil or in swampy areas. To prevent these ailments, you can spray the bush before flowering with fungicides, and after the ovary appears - with a solution of Ridomil and Falcon.
Berries are almost not attacked by insects, including wasps.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
The harvest of grapes of the Charada UA variety is stored for up to 3 weeks, has excellent keeping quality and transportability, which makes it a good option for trade. The variety is not suitable for winemaking, since it has exclusively table characteristics and is used fresh.
