Ruby Jubilee grapes are popular with gardeners due to their high yield, exquisite taste and excellent external data. Moreover, this variety is very resistant to various diseases.
Breeding history
The Ruby Jubilee grape variety was bred by the famous breeder from the city of Novocherkassk - Viktor Nikolaevich Krainov. To obtain a hybrid, he used the varieties Talisman and Kishmish Radiant. The name of the new variety was not given by chance, the winegrower dedicated it to his wife and their fortieth anniversary of life together. In folklore, this date is usually called the ruby wedding.
Description
Ruby Jubilee is a hybrid table grape with medium-sized bushes. The leaves are rounded, dark green, medium dissected. The flowers of this variety are bisexual. The petioles are of medium length and green in color. Ripe shoots are characterized by a brown tint, red nodes are located on them.
Ripening period
This variety is early-medium in its ripening. Full ripening occurs in 116-125 days, usually at the end of August. But experts advise not to rush and harvest closer to mid-September. The fact is that the berries of the Ruby Jubilee acquire a ripe color before the brushes are fully ripe. Ripe berries can hang on the bushes for a long time, retaining their taste.
Bunches
Ruby Jubilee is characterized by large clusters, with an average weight of 600-800 g. They have a cylindrical-conical shape, moderately dense. Very rarely prone to peas. This means that the grapes in the cluster are the same size.
Berries
Fruits of the Ruby Jubilee variety are dark pink with a ruby tint, covered with a smoky waxy bloom. They are oval-cylindrical in shape and have strong stalks. The weight of one berry is about 10-12 g, size is 32x24 mm. The fleshy-juicy pulp contains 2-3 seeds, has an average density, and crunches during the process of eating. The edible peel is of medium thickness, almost not felt during the meal.
Taste
The berries of this variety have a nutmeg harmonious taste with pink and strawberry notes. They have a pleasant honey aftertaste and a pronounced nutmeg aroma. The fruits are used both fresh and in bouquets of red table and dessert wines. You can also make juices, compotes, and make jam from them. Ruby Jubilee is considered one of the most delicious hybrid varieties of our time.
Yield
Refers to high-yielding grape varieties. As a result, it is necessary to ration the eyes and shoots. The Ruby Jubilee ripens for the entire length of the growth. The yield is up to 15-20 kg from a mature mature bush under ideal weather conditions.
Growing features
Ruby Jubilee is an unpretentious grape variety in cultivation. But you should know that it is focused on the milder climate of Ukraine and the Krasnodar Territory. In central Russia, it is less common, as it does not tolerate severe frosts and requires special shelter.
Landing
Cuttings of this hybrid are planted in early or mid-April. They are characterized by good rooting, the depth of the planting holes should be 70-80 cm. Planting of this variety is recommended to be carried out in the sunny southern or southwestern part of the site, where there are no strong drafts. Fertile soil is the key to a high yield. In cold areas, the Ruby Jubilee is formed without a stem, so that it is easier to cover the shoots for the winter.
Pollination
Flowers of this variety are bisexual, they are pollinated by their own pollen. You should be aware that Ruby Jubilee flower stalks can crumble if it rains during flowering. Because of this, pollination is disturbed, and later loose brushes are formed.
Pruning
Spring pruning of vines for 6-8 eyes is recommended. On average, there should be about 35 eyes per bush. It is impossible to thin out the brushes during flowering, since the variety is prone to shedding flowers, it is better to carry out this procedure before flowering. In the fall, it is imperative to cut out all weak and dry shoots with a pruner.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
Ruby Jubilee grapes can withstand winter frosts down to -23 degrees. Therefore, in the regions of central Russia, he needs a mandatory shelter for the winter. Usually sawdust, straw, coniferous spruce branches are used for this purpose.
Diseases and pests
This hybrid is not affected by powdery mildew and various kinds of rot, but is slightly damaged by wasps. To protect against these insects, the bunches on the vine can be packed in special bags with a fine mesh. The holes in the hollow pipes should also be repaired if they are used as a support for the shoots. Wasps love to make their nests in such holes.
If the grapes are exposed to any disease or insect, this is always reflected in its appearance.
Storage
Berries of the Ruby Jubilee variety are stored well. They are highly transportable. Brushes can withstand long-distance transportation without losing their attractive shape and exquisite taste.
