Rambo grape (Rambo) is a relatively new table variety, promising for the industrial area and market cultivation.
Breeding history
Rambo is a grape culture of a table variety of a hybrid form of the private selection of Kalugin V.M. The product from the Ukrainian winegrower appeared by crossing the varieties Talisman x Velika. In 2013, the seedling was planted with seeds in the private breeding plot of Viktor Mikhailovich. From this combination of varieties, several promising dark berry forms were formed, including Black Crystal, Alvika, Messenger, Matador and Rambo. All of them are still being tested, but they show good results with most winegrowers. Rimbaud is one of the few Kalugin hybrids whose parental pair is known. At the present time, the hybrid form of Rimbaud grapes has not been fully studied, the characteristics are given preliminary and require clarification. But the shape certainly deserves attention, especially because of its similarity to the Velika variety. At the same time, Rimbaud ripens almost 10 days earlier.
The hybrid form owes its name to the surname of the legendary film character John Rambo from the American film series of the same name. The only difference is in the spelling of the name of the hybrid in the original translation into Russian.
Description
The bushes are distinguished by active growth, and the vines are well ripened. The fruitfulness of the shoots is noted as high enough. Good yield potential.
Ripening period
The variety yields as early as possible compared to other early-maturing grape crops. The extremely early ripening period declared by the creator of the hybrid is in some way an exaggeration, but it can be considered early. The growing season is 105-110 days. Maturation is influenced by the heat supply of the region and the load of the bush.
Bunches
They are distinguished by a cylindro-conical shape with an average density, moderately loose. The brush weighs from 700 to 1200 g. Rimbaud is endowed with many of the characteristics of the parent variety that Velika possesses, in particular the size of the bunch. To obtain large brushes, the accumulation of perennial wood is necessary, therefore, clusters of small size on young plants.
Berries
The color of the fruit is dark purple, the shape is elongated, oval (ovoid). The berries are large, weighing up to 21.6 g.
Taste
The pulp is very juicy and firm, slightly crunchy on the teeth. The skin is not very thin, but edible. The sugar content is high. The taste is harmonious, with a pleasant varietal aftertaste. The berries can hang on the bush for a long time without losing their taste.
Yield
High-yielding variety. The harvest usually ripens by mid-August, depending on the climatic conditions of each particular region.
Growing features
Caring for the hybrid form does not differ in any special nuances. But you have to follow certain rules and comply with agrotechnical conditions.
Landing
The right time for planting is from March to May and from September to October. For the bushes, a place is determined where the sun's rays penetrate well and do not blow through winds. The variety prefers chernozem and slightly acidic soils. After planting, the plant experiences stress and needs support in the form of spraying with biostimulants: HB-101, Chitosan Bio with succinic acid.
Pollination
The flowering of the grape culture is bisexual, which is the guarantor of good pollination, even with generous precipitation in summer and with few bees on the site.
Pruning
Pruning vines - up to 10 eyes. After autumn pruning, all fallen leaves and vines are removed. This is necessary to prevent possible contamination of the crop.
Watering
An early grape variety requires mandatory irrigation in spring and autumn. Two watering of the bush at the root with three times loosening of the soil per season. The first - charging, is carried out with swelling of the kidneys, in parallel with feeding with nitrogen; the second - before flowering, with fertilization with a complex composition with microelements. To preserve moisture in the soil and to avoid overheating of the roots, it is desirable to introduce a hydrogel into the soil.
Top dressing
Before planting, it is recommended to soak the root system of a young seedling in a liquid root stimulator. For this purpose, you can use "Kornevin", "Root Super" or "Heteroauxin". It is most convenient to add fertilizer during planting. Long-acting complex preparations - "Bio Master", "Osmokat", "Sweet Grapes" - must be introduced together with organic matter: mullein, "Horse power", potassium humate.
In summer, the culture needs foliar feeding with the preparations "Zircon", "Ecopin", etc.
At the end of autumn, phosphorus-potassium compounds are needed: fertilization with double superphosphate, the preparation "Autumn", monopotassium phosphate.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
Withstands a drop in air temperature to -23 ° C. In winter, only a shelter will protect the vine from freezing, especially in the first two years of the life of the culture.
Diseases and pests
The hybrid form of Rimbaud has an average susceptibility to disease. You will need standard fungicides for mildew and powdery mildew. Copper oxychloride (with 4-5 leaves) has a suitable effect against mildew in the period before flowering, after it and a month later. Ridomil Gold and Falcon show themselves well.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
The transportability of the Rambo grape variety is quite high. During storage in a cool, dry and dark place, the skin does not crack.
Review overview
The form of the grape is classified as a market one. Buyers pay special attention to beautiful large clusters and large, elongated, deep purple berries.
Despite the relatively high sugar content (18%) by wasps and hornets, the berries are not attacked, cracking is not observed.
The main purpose of the crop is fresh consumption. The dense pulp is suitable for making jams, compotes, pickles and pickling. In the pickled state, the fruits are not much inferior to olives. This is a great snack option on the festive table, fresh and processed.
