Massive clusters of the very early grape variety in Memory of the Teacher won the hearts of most winegrowers. The appearance and delicious aroma of the plant attracts gourmets with its richness of taste and harmony. This variety is grown not only for the sake of harvesting, but also for aesthetic pleasure - it is delivered by the contemplation of a powerful and lush culture.
Breeding history
The name of the grape variety speaks for itself: amateur breeder Evgeny Georgievich Pavlovsky dedicated his novelty to the memory of his teacher - the legend of viticulture I.A.Kostrikin. In 2015, the variety was awarded a prize in the category "Consumer Sympathy" within the framework of the profile competition "Sun Cluster", and next year it was entered into the State Register. At the same time, the tests of the hybrid have not been completed to this day.
We can say for sure that the "parents" of the hybrid variety in the Memory of the Teacher - the Talisman and Cardinal varieties - endowed it with early maturity, frost resistance and immunity to many diseases. At the same time, the breeding material is distinguished by excellent taste, nutmeg aroma and appetizing appearance.
Geography of distribution
According to the entry in the state register, the fruit culture of the Memory of the Teacher can grow throughout Russia. But in northern regions and latitudes with a temperate climate, grape bushes winter under cover.
Description
The bush turns out to be vigorous and sprawling, has multiple light brown shoots, giving growth up to 5-7 m. The leaves are dark green, five-lobed, large in size.
Ripening period
It takes 95-105 days for the fruit to ripen. This allows the variety to be attributed to fruit crops of a very early ripening period. A characteristic feature of this grape is that ripe bunches do not necessarily need to be removed from the bushes immediately. Exposure on the bush increases the amount of sugar in the fruit. Overripe grapes retain their taste characteristics without losing their presentation.
Bunches
Bunches of medium density and mass. Their size varies from 40-60 cm in length with the weight of each bunch from 500 to 1000 g.
Berries
Large, oval, dark red, with good weight. Each grape weighs 10-15 g. Inside is dense, crispy pulp with 1-2 seeds. The stated sugar content is 18-22% with an acid content of 6-8 g / l. The dense skin allows the fruit to retain its presentation for a longer time, protects them from cracking even during the season of prolonged rains. The berries ripen on the hands at the same pace.
Taste
The tasting qualities of the berry correspond to 9 points on a scale of 10 points. Professionals consider the taste of berries to be harmonious, noting the nutmeg notes in the bouquet and a light floral aftertaste. The fruits of the variety exude a pronounced nutmeg smell.
Yield
The variety is high-yielding. 10-20 kg of fruits are removed from one bush.
Growing features
To obtain a high-quality and generous harvest, the variety dedicated to I.A.Kostrikin must be nourished and moisturized in a timely manner. In general, it is unpretentious and very productive.
Landing
It is better to plant grapes in Memory of the Teacher in the spring. The plant requires long-term adaptation and rooting. Spring planting is carried out from the second week of April to early May. The reference point for landing is the established air temperature at the level of + 15 ° С and at least + 10 ° С - of the soil.
The most suitable place is on a hill, in a sunny and wind-protected area, away from drafts and tall trees.
The variety does not favor acidic soil. In extreme cases, you need to neutralize the acidity by adding lime.
It is better to choose a nutritious soil enriched with organic matter and minerals.
The garden bed is prepared in the fall, retreating between the plants 1.5-2 m, and between the rows - up to 3 m. Support is required.
Pollination
The flowers on the bushes are bisexual, which does not require additional pollination and ensures 100% setting.
Pruning
Sanitary pruning of grape shoots is resorted to in the spring. In this case, diseased, damaged, broken branches are removed. The shaping of the bush is planned for the fall: for 6-8 eyes. The optimal load on the bush is up to 30-40 buds. Pinching is mandatory.
Watering
Young grapes planted in spring are first watered every week, then once a month, and in August watering is completely stopped. Adult plants are watered according to the following scheme: abundant watering in spring, then before and after flowering, and finally after harvesting. After each watering, loosening and mulching are carried out. During the ripening of the bunches, watering is not performed.
The Master's Memory Grade does not survive drought well. It is recommended to pour in up to 30-50 liters under each bush, taking into account the age and size of the crop. Drip irrigation is an excellent option.
Top dressing
Mineral fertilizers are applied according to the classical scheme: in the spring - nitrogen-containing fertilizers to build up the green mass, in the summer - potassium and phosphorus, organic fertilizers at least 4 times during the growing season.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
The grape vine in Memory of the Teacher freezes at temperatures below -23 ° C, respectively, in regions with a temperate and harsh climate, the plant must be covered. In the south, you can do without such events.
Diseases and pests
The Teacher's Memory Grade has managed to establish itself as resistant to fungal diseases. At the same time, preventive treatment is necessary at least twice a season (before and after flowering). Popular preparations for this purpose: iron (copper) vitriol, Falcon, Topaz, Ridomil Gold.
Since the variety is relatively young, it is not yet time to judge its resistance to various forms of diseases and pests.
Obviously, the big danger comes from the leafworm and the felt mite.
Birds also pose a threat to crops. To protect the bunches, special bags are used, the bushes are covered with dense nets. Sweet traps set around the vineyard save the wasps.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
The dense skin protects the fruit from cracking and other damage during long-distance transportation.
In a cool place, away from sunlight, grapes can lie for several months without losing their presentation and taste.
