The grape variety Muscat Novoshakhtinsky is popular with gardeners due to its high yields and resistance to pests. In addition, it has an early ripening period, which is especially appreciated by winegrowers in the northern regions.
Breeding history
The hybrid variety Muscat Novoshakhtinsky was bred by Evgeny Grigorievich Pavlovsky as a result of crossing the varieties Talisman and XVII-10-26. An amateur breeder first received the new grape varieties in 1985. By his main profession, Evgeny Grigorievich is a miner, he lives in the city of Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov region. In honor of the breeder's hometown, this variety got its name.
Description
Muscat Novoshakhtinsky is a table grape, which is a variation of varieties with a red fruit color. It is distinguished by vigorous bushes with good ripening of berries. Flowers are bisexual.
Ripening period
This variety is characterized by very early ripening times. The developmental period from bud opening to final maturity is 110-115 days. In the middle lane, the harvest of the Muscat Novoshakhtinsky variety is harvested closer to mid-August.
Bunches
The bunches of this variety are rather large, they hang on the vine for a long time. They look very attractive and have a conical shape. The weight of one bunch often reaches 800 g, but most often it weighs 500 g. Its density is characterized as moderate. Ripening of berries of different sizes on one cluster (the so-called pea) is negligible.
Berries
Muscat Novoshakhtinsky variety has large (7-10 g) berries. The grapes are round in shape, have a red-purple color. The pulp of the fruit is fleshy-juicy, crispy, it contains 2-3 seeds. The berries are covered with a thin skin, it is resistant to cracking and is not felt during the meal.
Taste
Muscat Novoshakhtinsky is characterized by a harmonious, nutmeg taste. It is very pleasant with a long caramel aftertaste. Has a high sugar accumulation capacity. The variety does not lose its flavor even after being on the bushes for a long time after ripening. Thanks to all these qualities, it is suitable both for fresh consumption and for winemaking.
Yield
Belongs to varieties that give a high yield. The vine ripens perfectly and along the entire length of the plant. Vigorous bushes are able to actively bear fruit the next year after planting in a permanent location. It should be borne in mind that Muscat Novoshakhtinsky is characterized by uneven ripening of berries.
Growing features
This variety is easy to cultivate. It bears fruit abundantly and ripens early.Muscat Novoshakhtinsky is very resistant to diseases and pests, but requires preventive procedures. It is also advisable to provide him with a winter shelter for shoots.
Landing
Cuttings of Novoshakhtinsky Muscat root easily and quickly become vigorous seedlings. They are planted in a sunny place at a distance of 4-5 m, since the variety is characterized by strong bushes. It is recommended to plant young shoots in the ground in March after the end of frost. Long shoots must be tied immediately to the support. In northern latitudes, this variety is planted closer to home.
Pollination
Muscat Novoshakhtinsky variety has bisexual flowers. This means that it does not require special pollination, unlike the female type varieties. This feature is a guarantee of high and consistent yields.
Pruning
In the spring, before budding, the vine needs pruning in order to properly form the shoot. For fruiting, the Novoshakhtinsky Muscat vine is cut into 6-8 eyes. In summer, it is recommended to thin out the foliage and remove the stepsons. In the fall, be sure to cut off damaged and old shoots.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
Muscat Novoshakhtinsky belongs to frost-resistant hybrids. Its buds endure winter frosts down to -23 degrees. However, the variety needs shelter for the winter with spruce branches or straw. This is especially necessary for young plants.
Diseases and pests
The hybrid is moderately resistant to disease. Its resistance to mildew (downy mildew) is 3 points, its resistance to powdery mildew is also 3 points. To prevent these diseases, Novoshakhtinsky Muscat is treated with fungicides before flowering and again during the formation of berries. The variety is not attacked by wasps, but it can be attacked by spider mites, which reduce the grape yield. It is imperative to clean the plant from old bark, where mites usually hibernate.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
Strong berries of Muscat Novoshakhtinsky do not lose their shape for a long time. They keep well without losing their pleasant taste. The bunches of this hybrid perfectly tolerate transportation even over considerable distances.
