The Dubovsky grape variety was born in 2009 and immediately attracted the attention of winegrowers from all over Russia and neighboring countries. It is favorably distinguished from other varieties by giant clusters and large berries of unusual shape, painted by nature in an elegant pink color.
Breeding history
This variety was bred by the Volgograd wine-grower S. E. Gusev. The breeder used Red Delight and Novocherkassk Jubilee as parent varieties. The hybrid was named Dubovsky pink and at the first harvest pleased the author with the best expected qualities. The author even managed to improve many indicators.
It was they who made Dubovsky pink a real bestseller, elevating the winegrower Gusev to the number of famous folk breeders. State variety testing of this hybrid form has not yet been completed.
Geography of distribution
It is possible to cultivate Dubovsky pink not only in the southern, but also in the northern regions, where relatively short and cool summers are characteristic. In this case, harvesting starts from late August - early September.
Description
The plant is distinguished by its powerful vigor of growth. Gusev's hybrid inherited good ripening of shoots from the parent variety Yubiley Novocherkassk. The perennial vine is covered with a reddish, coarse-fibrous bark. The leaves on the vine are large, with five lobes, rounded. The surface is matt. Small greenish flowers up to 5 mm in diameter.
Ripening period
Differs in early ripening. Full maturity occurs after 115-120 days, as the buds bloom. When the vines are overloaded, the ripening period increases by a period from 10 to 20 days. In the south, the bunches reach full ripeness in early August.
Bunches
The shape is conical, sometimes with a wing. The arrangement of the fruits is not dense. The weight of each bunch is about 1200-1500 g. Massive brushes are easily held on a strong comb. The grapes of this variety are not prone to peas, excessive loosening of the brushes and cracking of the berries.
Berries
The deep pink color appears on the berries just a few days before full ripening. This is a signal to cut the bunches. The pulp of pointed berries contains only 1-2 seeds. Sometimes berries grow with a slightly curved tip. The weight of the grapes is 20 g each. This is an impressive size.
Taste
The pulp has a pleasant taste, which is facilitated by the content of 210 g / dm3 of sugar in it with an acidity of 4-6 g / dm3. It is juicy and crunches on the teeth. The peel is not felt when chewed, since it has an average thickness and density. The inside of the grapes is the same deep pink as the outside. Tasting taste score is 9.3 points out of 10 possible.
Yield
The variety is high-yielding. The first fruiting occurs already in the 2nd year after planting. In the 4th year, gardeners manage to get up to 16 kg on average from one bush. Dubovsky can bloom on his stepsons and delight with a second harvest.
If this pink hybrid is grafted onto a vines of a different variety with a well-developed root system, harvesting will be possible in the same year.
In the south, the main harvest ripens at the beginning of August, and in the northern regions, the harvest begins at the end of August - in September. Prolonged hanging of the bunches on the bushes does not negatively affect the quality of the fruit. The grapes are firmly attached to the stalk, which has a positive effect on the storage of the harvested crop.
Growing features
Given the novelty of this hybrid form, it has not been sufficiently studied yet; all recommendations are conditional and incomplete. In general, the plant is unpretentious. Leaving comes down to traditional measures.
The Dubovsky hybrid is a thermophilic plant, therefore, for planting, it is important to choose a well-lit, not blown through by through winds, an elevated area. The soil is suitable breathable, fertile, there should not be a high occurrence of groundwater.
Landing
Grapes of this variety tolerate cold well, therefore it is allowed to grow in temperate and northern latitudes.
Standard planting of seedlings is carried out in the fall. The holes are formed at a depth of about 50 cm.The next bush is planted, retreating at a distance of 150 cm.
Drainage material is distributed along the bottom of the well. A mixture of humus with potassium-phosphorus fertilizers is poured on top. To settle the soil, it must be abundantly moistened in the amount of 1.5-2 buckets of water per hole.
A particular difficulty lies in the formation of vines prone to active growth. It is recommended to grow the variety on a horizontal wire trellis.
Pollination
The flower of Dubovsky grape variety is bisexual, so planting next to pollinating varieties is not required.
Pruning
During spring pruning, the Dubovsky pink grape bush is loaded with 35-40 eyes. Fruit arrows are cut into 6-8 eyes. Growing shoots are discarded and break off those that turn out to be weak and sterile.
On fruiting shoots, only a bunch is left. During the summer season, pinching is regularly performed, which is necessary to thicken the bush.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
The vine Dubovsky does not die at temperatures down to -24 ° C, therefore it can be grown in the north of the Russian Federation. But until objective data has been collected on this score, the growers are insured by covering the bushes for the frosty period.
Diseases and pests
The variety is susceptible to fungal diseases only when cultivated in areas with high rainfall, unfavorable climatic conditions and poor soil quality.
Sweet Dubovsky berries to the taste of wasps and birds. To preserve the harvest, you will have to take care of protecting the bunches. For this purpose, you can use a special mesh or gauze bags for bunches. It will be useful to spray the vine with a vinegar solution, make bait based on beer, sweet water and fumigate grape plantings.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
Dense and juicy fruits tolerate transportation and storage well enough (in the refrigerator for over 2 months). Density has a positive effect on harvesting, which gives an inspiring perspective when growing Dubovsky grapes on an industrial scale.
