Tsimus grape is a table variety of a hybrid form of private selection. It is characterized by early ripening, good frost resistance and survival rate. The vine of this grape culture is prone to active growth and development.
Breeding history
The originator of the hybrid variety Tsimus is the Ukrainian winegrower and experienced breeder Pysanka Oleg Mikhailovich. As a mother base, he pollinated the Podarok Zaporozhye variety with the pollen of the Veles variety. The combination consists of the genotype of the raisins of the "father" line and the resistance characteristic of the Rapture group. Tsimus is an abbreviation for the initial letters of the words that describe the taste of this grape: citron and nutmeg. This name is perfect for this grape. The characteristics of the Pysanka variety are in many respects identical to the Jubilee of the vine grower V.N.Krainov, bred by him in Novocherkassk. They have similar descriptions of berries, cluster configuration, and more.
Description
Ripening period
In terms of ripening times, Tsimus belongs to very early varieties. Ripening of the crop in 95-100 days.
Bunches
Large, conical, less often cylindrical-conical, branched, with moderate looseness and density. They can be simply stunning - weighing up to 2 kg and more weighty. Average weight 800−1000 g.
Berries
The average weight of one berry is 5 g. With proper care, double weight gain is possible. The shape of the fruit is oval, and the color of the soft skin and flesh is white, with a golden glow on the sunny side.
The seedless class of this variety is IV, rather, this grape can be called raisin only conditionally. The presence or absence of seeds in berries is directly influenced by their size and the weather at the time of flowering. Small berries consist of clean pulp, while larger ones contain up to 2 seeds. They are tasteless, soft, and do not give unpleasant sensations when chewing. The sugar content of Tsimus grape juice is 17-18% with an acidity reading in the range of 6-7 g / l.
Taste
The pulp is fleshy and juicy, with a dense and thin skin. The taste has a pronounced nutmeg aroma with citrus hints.
Yield
Fruit vines appear from the very first buds. Up to 3 inflorescences are tied to one shoot.
Growing features
Landing
When determining a place for planting seedlings, it must be borne in mind that a lot of sun is required for the growth of Tsimus. It is best not to place the vine next to buildings and trees or near groundwater.
Young shoots can be planted twice a year: in autumn and spring.
In the autumn, the grapes are planted from October until the onset of frost. Spring planting is carried out at the end of the frost season, when the temperature stabilizes.
Pollination
The flower is bisexual.
Pruning
Vine bushes are pruned to increase yields using the classic method, cutting off 8 to 12 eyes.
In the first year of growth, shoots are not pruned. In the second year, you can start with autumn pruning, which precedes wintering. Remove excess shoots and leaves to prevent freezing of the bush. Most often, the vine is cut to a quarter. In the spring, branches that have died out during the winter are cut off. During the summer (2-3 times per season), stepchildren are removed.
The bush is formed, guided by the calculation of 10-12 vines, located at 1 m in height. This is done to form 1-2 large clusters on each shoot.
Weak vines are removed if necessary. This helps to correctly distribute the resource of the bush.
Watering
Kishmish varieties have a special need for moisture. The average volume of liquid consumed by the culture is 30 liters per week.
When planting on sandy soils, the need for water increases by 1.5 times.
Watering is necessary exclusively under the roots of the plant.
2-3 weeks before harvesting, light irrigation of the soil is used instead of abundant watering.
During the harvest, the grapes are not watered.
Drip irrigation is considered one of the possible methods of irrigation.
Top dressing
At the beginning of the season, to build up the green mass of the bush, farmers use nitrogen fertilizer and "Plantafol", acting clearly according to the instructions.
Throughout the season, they are fed with potassium monophosphate, sulfate and magnesium sulfate.
When applying fertilizers, you need to feel the measure. The development of overfed vines slows down, which negatively affects both the yield and the state of the culture as a whole.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
Tsimus grapes can withstand up to -23 C (requires shelter). For insulation and protection, the sprouts are covered with plastic bottles with 4 ventilation holes. The vine is covered with spruce branches for the winter.
Diseases and pests
Disease resistance is average. Timely treatment and preventive measures will solve problems without losing the harvest.
The main danger to the culture of this variety is:
spider mites;
wasps;
beetle larvae;
leaf rollers.
In the spring, at the very beginning of the season, the grape bushes are treated with a Bordeaux mixture.
Wasps are fought using insect traps with the addition of sugar syrup and chlorophos. And also effectively fumigating the vine with smoke, spraying with vinegar and other means safe for it.
The roots of the culture protect from the larvae of May beetles when digging the soil near the bushes. In the process, all larvae found on the site are removed from the ground.
Against spider mites and leaf rollers, spraying with insecticides is used, acting clearly according to the instructions.
If the grapes are exposed to any disease or insect, this is always reflected in its appearance.
Storage
The fruits are kept very well (for several months) and transported.
Review overview
Zimus is interesting for its early ripening period, appetizing appearance and harmonious taste. Kishmish is considered conditionally, rather it is a soft seed. It is likely that gibberellin treatment will save the seeds from the seeds, but few farmers will decide on such measures.
The hybrid form of this grape variety is grown on many country and garden plots. With proper care of the crop, it is possible to obtain consistently high yields of juicy berries with a harmonious taste.
