The Brilliant grape variety is well known to gardeners in Russia and Ukraine. Its popularity is due to its delicious sugary berries, early ripening and resistance to various diseases.
Breeding history
Brilliant grapes were bred by breeders of the Novocherkassk VNIIViV them. Ya.I. Potapov in 2005. This was made possible by crossing Victoria and Original White. The grape got its name because of the content of pruin (a thin layer of waxy coating), which gives the berries a beautiful shine.
Description
The Brilliant grape belongs to the table varieties. It is characterized by tall, vigorous, spreading bushes about 2 m tall. Leaves are light green, delicate and graceful. The flowers of this variety are bisexual. The cuttings are strong and take root quickly.
Ripening period
Shiny belongs to very early ripening varieties. The berries are fully ripe in 95-100 days. In the southern regions of Russia and Ukraine, they ripen July 20 - August 1. The percentage of fruitful shoots is 48.6. The berries remain on the bushes for a very long time.
Bunches
The clusters of the Brilliant are conical in shape. The weight of one bunch reaches 668 g. It is average in density. Peas are not typical for the variety, the berries are about the same size.
Berries
Variety Brilliant has a pink color of berries. But, growing in the shade, they can remain yellow-green. In shape, the fruits are oval, medium-sized. The maximum weight of one berry is 8.2 g.
The sugar content in fruits is 180.40 g / dm3, acidity indices are 6.7 g / dm3. Berries contain many trace elements and minerals. The fleshy-juicy crunchy flesh is covered with a thin skin, which is not felt during the meal. Fruit tasting score - 8.9 points.
Taste
Brilliant grapes are characterized by the predominance of a pleasant nutmeg flavor. The berries are very sweet, as they have a high sugar content. A similar sugar content is inherent in sweets.
Yield
Shiny refers to high-yield varieties. Its fruiting factor is 0.8. Ripening of berries occurs amicably and evenly. This is very convenient as the entire crop can be harvested in one go.
Growing features
Grapes Brilliant - an unpretentious cultivar in cultivation, which grows well even among inexperienced gardeners. It tolerates drought well and does not require frequent watering. Withstands severe frosts, disease resistant. But we must remember that the development of seedlings depends on the correct choice of the planting site and soil characteristics.
Landing
When planting Brilliant grapes, it should be borne in mind that the bush grows strongly, therefore a lot of space is required on the southern side of the site. The place should be calm, preferably near the fence. The variety loves fertile soils. If they are poor, then you need to add 2 parts of compost and 1 part of manure with sand.
It is recommended to start planting in autumn or early warm spring. Seedlings are placed in a solution of potassium humate a few days before planting for better development of the root system. The depth of the planting holes should be at least 50 cm. Rubble or small bricks should be placed on the bottom, the planting should be watered and mulched abundantly. The recommended distance between bushes is 1 m, between rows - 2 m.
Pollination
The presence of bisexual flowers means the possibility of self-pollination. No additional pollination is required. Shiny can be a good pollinator for female-type unisexual flowers.
Pruning
For the Brilliant variety, a short cut of 3-4 eyes is used. But the best bunches are obtained when pruning fruit vines for 10-12 eyes. Sanitary pruning of plants is usually carried out in the fall.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
It is possible not to shelter the variety from the cold in regions where there are no severe winters. Shiny can withstand temperatures down to -23 degrees. For young plants, it is recommended to make a light shelter for the winter.
Diseases and pests
Variety Shiny is very resistant to common grape diseases such as mildew, powdery mildew, gray rot. In order to prevent anthracnose, chlorosis and bacteriosis, the bushes should be treated with the fungicides "Blue Bordeaux" (5 kg / ha) or "Champion" (3 l / ha).
It is eaten by wasps as it contains a lot of sugar. In pipe trellises it is necessary to close the holes, these insects love to make nests there. You cannot plant fruit trees near the vineyard. You can make special protective nets for clusters with small cells.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
Brilliant grapes are used both fresh and for making jam, jelly. Berries perfectly retain their beneficial properties during long storage. Transportation is tolerated quite well. However, during long-term transportation, the fruits lose their taste.
