Grape cultivation is a very popular area of gardening in many regions of the country. The Blagovest variety is popular with gardeners due to its excellent characteristics.
Breeding history
This hybrid grape variety was bred by domestic breeders from parental forms, the well-known Talisman and Radiant raisins. Two varieties were crossed by the breeder V. N. Krainov, on whose account a number of outstanding varieties of grapes. For the first time, crossing took place in the mid-90s of the 20th century, but the variety began to spread in the 2000s, after the successful breeding and formation of a hybrid form.
Description
The external characteristics of the variety are as follows:
powerful, vigorous bushes;
flowers of both sexes;
seeds are small;
the shape of the bunch resembles a cylinder, in density it is loose.
Blagovest has a number of advantages:
good ripening of the vine, excellent rooting of cuttings;
excellent self-pollination and, as a result, no peas;
the level of immunity is high, especially against gray rot and other ailments typical for grapes;
good frost resistance, can be grown in the northern regions, but with shelter;
sugar accumulates in berries actively;
the variety is rarely attacked by wasps.
There are also disadvantages to consider:
unripe berries are found in the bunch, which differ in dessert qualities;
the bush requires rationing, it is not worth overloading.
Ripening period
The table variety Blagovest refers to early or medium early, the approximate ripening period is 110-115 days. The harvest usually ripens by mid-August. The timing largely depends on agricultural technology, cultivation methods, load. Sometimes the ripening period shifts to medium.
Bunches
The bunch of this variety is large, friable, the presentation is good. Visually, the shape of the brush is in the form of a cylinder-cone, elongated. On average, a bunch weighs 1-2.5 kg. The variety perfectly tolerates transportation, it is perfectly stored in the cold, and, accordingly, is grown on an industrial scale.
Berries
The berries of this variety are rather large, have a shape close to an oval, and may be weakly nipple-shaped. The weight of one fruit varies from 12 to 15 g. The skin of the fruit is of a dense type, despite this, it is good for food. Ripe grapes can be green-milky or green-yellow, with darkening on the side of the sun. The pulp is of a fleshy-dense type, very juicy.
Taste
The taste of Blagovest is quite original. Muscat notes intertwine with duchess notes. The grapes acquire the brightest taste after full ripening, after a while.
Yield
In order for the yield to be high and to pass on time, the bushes should not be loaded. This affects the size of the berries, their sweet taste. Overloading should not be allowed even during one season, this will negatively affect the taste and yield level. The average yield of Blagovest is about 6 kg per bush. These figures are not outstanding, but for table grapes these figures are average. An adult plant with excellent care can yield up to 10 kg of berries.
Growing features
Agrotechnics of Blagovest has its own characteristics; a number of events need to be regularly carried out.
Watering
It is important to do this constantly, especially in hot weather and before rooting. Moisten the grapes twice a month, taking into account the weather conditions. It is optimal to water not at the root, but in the holes formed half a meter from the bush. An adult plant is additionally moistened in drought, in other cases according to a certain scheme. The first watering during the rudimentary formation of foliage, the second - before flowering, the third - during the formation of small berries, the fourth - a few weeks before ripening, the fifth - after the foliage has fallen off. The last watering is not needed if it rains.
Loosening
It is important to provide the grapes not only with moisture, but also with air. Therefore, after moistening, loosening is carried out - both after watering and after rain.
Top dressing
The level of yield depends on fertilizers, feeding is carried out in the second season once a month from the beginning of the growing season. The first feeding must be done even before the formation of flowers with mineral compounds. Organic matter is applied every two to three years.
Landing
You can plant the variety in spring and autumn, the main thing is to choose seedlings with developed roots and shoots with a woody surface with 2-3 eyes. It is better to hold the roots in a mixture of clay and mullein. The holes are formed 80 by 80 cm, soil, humus, ash, superphosphates are poured into them so that they fill the hole by 50%. After that, a seedling is introduced, sprinkled with soil and rammed. Planting ends with moistening and mulching. Saplings are placed at a distance of one and a half meters from each other. It is important to provide quality support such as metal or wood trellises.
Pollination
Since the flowers of the variety are bisexual, pollination problems usually do not arise. Thanks to bisexual flowering, the grapes do not pea and do not condense. Blooming bushes usually occurs in the first month of summer.
Pruning
Pruning is carried out in October, after leaf fall, in the spring this procedure is more traumatic. On an adult bush, no more than 30 shoots remain, cut shoots are used for the formation of cuttings and reproduction.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
Despite the fact that the variety tolerates frost well, in the northern regions it requires shelter for the winter. The bushes are tied up, laid on a layer of boards, slate, arched and covered. For shelter, bags, film, roofing felt and soil are suitable. It is important to leave openings for air exchange. In the spring, you need to remove the shelter on time, otherwise the kidneys will die under the film. Adult plants may not be covered for the winter if the region is not too harsh.
Diseases and pests
Resistance to gray rot in the variety is high, but prevention of mildew and oidium will not hurt. Most often, the harvest suffers from the invasion of wasps, aphids, phylloxera.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
Harvesting takes place after ripening with a pruner. It is not recommended to tear off the bunches, as they are stored worse. You can save the harvest in the cool and dark.
