Bazhena grapes

Bazhena grapes are an early ripe hybrid with large clusters and large fruits. This species is distinguished by its productivity, unpretentiousness and amazing berry size. Experienced growers fell in love with Bazhena for its beautiful presentation. The new hybrid is just as popular among amateur winegrowers. The lush grape bushes of Bazhena delight not only with a sweet harvest, but also serve as a decoration for a garden or a summer cottage.

A new hybrid was bred in Ukraine by the Zaporozhye breeder Vitaly Vladimirovich Zagorulko. The author has many successfully bred hybrids and varieties. The Arcadia variety endowed Bazhena with a chic appearance, wonderful taste and high yield. And the Gift of Zaporozhye conveyed early ripening, endurance and resistance to diseases and pests.

Grapes are successfully grown not only in Ukraine, but also in central Russia, Siberia, the Far East and the Urals.

On one Bazhena bush, many grape clusters with large fruits can ripen. One berry is on average equal to the size of a pigeon's egg.

An early ripe grape variety allows the berries to ripen in 3.5 months. In the southern regions, harvesting begins in the first half of August. In more severe regions, the berry ripens only by mid-September.

Bazhena clusters are large, have an elongated cone shape. The length of the brush can reach 40 centimeters, and the average weight is from 700 g to 1 kg.

Under favorable weather conditions and proper care, the weight of a bunch can reach 2 kilograms.

The fruits are very large, elongated and slightly elongated at the tip. The length of the berry is slightly more than 4 cm, the width is 2.4 cm, and the average weight is 12 g. But there are berries weighing 18-20 g.

The skin color is yellow, but it can change from milky green to bright light green, it all depends on the ripeness and ripeness of the berries.

The taste is harmonious. A distinctive feature of Bazhena is the combination of sweetness and light sourness. When the berry is ripe enough, there is a fruity flavor with cherry, pear and apple aromas.

The pulp is juicy, crispy and very tender. The skin, despite its firmness, is easy to chew and does not affect the taste of the grapes.

The first harvest can be harvested only after 3 years from the moment of planting the grapes. Such an expectation of Bazhena in the future compensates with a rich harvest in the range of 20-30 kg from one bush.

Bazhena grapes are very fond of warmth and light.Therefore, for planting, it is necessary to choose a place on the south side, which will be well warmed up by the sun, and protect the bush from drafts.

It is important that there is no groundwater near the site; a small hill is best suited.

It is not at all difficult to take care of the bushes, but there is one peculiarity: spring pruning can harm the abundant secretion of juice, which is subsequently fraught with rotting of the vine.

During the growing season, it is necessary to remove only stepchildren and diseased branches with damaged leaves.

You can plant grape seedlings both in spring and autumn. Bazhena is not very demanding on the composition of the soil; it is able to take root well in not particularly rich soils. The best option is black soil, it is looser and lighter, and is also able to pass air and water well.

The seedling that will be planted is soaked for a day in a growth stimulator. Then it is placed in a solution with aloe juice for the purpose of disinfection.

Water is poured into a pre-prepared pit with a meter depth and width, which should be well absorbed. A plastic pipe is installed there, through which the plant will receive water when irrigated. The length of the pipe should be more than 1 meter, so that after filling the hole, it can protrude above the ground.

The seedling is installed in a bulk earthen mound at an angle of 45 degrees with the roots down, filled up and compacted with pre-fertilized soil.

After filling the hole, the soil must be shed well again and, if desired, pour sawdust, humus or fresh grass on top.

Pollination of the plant occurs independently due to the bisexual structure of the flowers, which also affect the numerous appearance of ovaries and the absence of peas. Bazhenu is also very well pollinated by bees, and additional pollination is not required here.

In the year of the first harvest, and then every spring, it is necessary to prune and remove branches, which will take all the nutrients from the fruit.

Bazhena is a moisture-loving variety, and with the help of deeply located roots, it can independently feed on moisture from the soil. But for young bushes that have not yet borne fruit, additional watering is simply necessary.

It is very convenient to water the grapes through pre-dug plastic pipes. If there are no such devices, you can dig ditches around the bushes and pour water there. Warm water with the addition of ash stimulates the buds to grow, and they bloom faster.

Adult bushes during flowering and the formation of grape clusters are not watered. Otherwise, it will lead to shedding of the buds, which will affect the future harvest. Watering is also not done before harvesting to avoid watery pulp and cracking of the fruit.

Top dressing

Bazhena is an unpretentious variety, and if the seedlings are planted in well-fertilized soil, then feeding is optional for 2 years. After that, you can fertilize the ground with organic fertilizers with the addition of minerals.

In addition to fertilizing the root system, grapes can be sprayed with a solution of boric acid, potassium permanganate and copper sulfate. To prevent such solutions from dripping from the leaves, a little of any vegetable oil and granulated sugar should be added to them.

Bazhena's parent, a Gift from Zaporozhye, endowed the grapes with frost resistance up to -24 degrees. In the southern regions, it is not necessary to cover the plant; it is enough to cover the roots with sawdust or dry grass. In areas where winters are more severe, the grapes need to be insulated. This is especially true for young bushes. In late autumn, the ground around the roots is mulched with peat or straw.

Bazhena has very good immunity. To avoid diseases with mildew or gray mold, preventive treatments can be carried out. The most dangerous pest for grapes is root and leaf aphids.

The specific taste of the pulp does not particularly appeal to wasps. But on the other hand, birds can easily destroy some of the grapes. The only way to preserve the crop is to throw a strong, fine mesh net over the vine. Or put a mesh bag on each bunch.

Freshly harvested Bazhena harvest can be stored for a long time in a cool place, retaining its appearance and taste. The peel of the fruit protects the pulp well from damage and cracking, which allows transporting the grapes without damage.
