Humanity has been cultivating vineyards for a long time. Grapes are used both fresh and dried, as well as wine and cognacs are made from it. One of the new varieties of table grapes is Artek.
Breeding history
Our contemporary, Russian breeder and winegrower Sergei Eduardovich Gusev, bred a variety called Artek in his nursery in the city of Dubovka, Volgograd Region. The specialist has long been engaged in the breeding of various grape varieties, has copyrights for them, various certificates.
Description
Artek belongs to a new hybrid form of amateur table grapes. Obtained by crossing the Novocherkassk Jubilee and Summer Muscat varieties. The vine of this variety is vigorous and ripens well.
Ripening period
This variety ripens very early. The harvest is formed and ripens in 105-110 days, according to the timing it happens at the beginning of August.
Bunches
Very large, delicious. There are no peas in the bunch. The bunch itself has a conical shape, not very dense. Happens with a wing. Its average weight is 1000-1200 grams, or even more.
Berries
They are oval-shaped, slightly elongated. Similar in color to amber with a pink tip. The size of the Artek berry is 46x26 mm. The average weight of a grape is 16-18 grams. The flesh itself is quite firm and juicy.
Taste
Artek grapes taste pleasant and moderately sweet. When fully ripe, the berry has a slight nutmeg flavor. The sugar content of this grape juice is 21%. The score for tasting fresh Artek grapes is very high, about 8.9 points.
Yield
In the Volgograd region, the Artek grape has shown itself as a fruitful variety. A vigorous vine can have 3-5 clusters. In other climatic zones, the fruiting of this grape variety has not yet been fully studied.
Growing features
Artek grapes are undemanding to care for, although there are several factors that must be observed during the cultivation process.
It is better to plant this variety on the south side, where there is more sun.
The landing site should not be chosen in a draft.
Supports must be installed near the vine bush in advance.
To prevent the vine from thickening, it is worth doing periodic pruning.
The Artek variety grows well on almost all types of soil. Its root system is located near the soil surface, so there is enough moisture and nutrients for the grape bushes.
Landing
You can plant Artek grapes from spring to autumn. To obtain grape seedlings, a ripe vine is selected and cut into cuttings with two internodes. The healthiest and strongest are chosen.Then they are germinated and planted in pots for the development of the root system. A month later, seedlings are planted in open ground.
Pollination
Flowers of the Artek variety are bisexual. They self-pollinate and do not require cross-pollination. Grape inflorescences are pollinated by the wind. If the weather is cool and it rains, additional pollination should be done on Artek grapes with the female type of flowers. With the help of a piece of cotton wool or fur, pollen is transferred from one inflorescence to another.
Pruning
The Artek variety needs pruning, which is necessary for:
increasing yields;
accelerated ripening of berries;
improving the illumination of the vine;
removal of old shoots;
increasing the frost resistance of grapes.
The main pruning is carried out after winter, when the threat of frost has passed. Summer pruning helps to reduce the number of unnecessary shoots and leaves.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
This grape variety can withstand short-term low temperatures down to -24 degrees. In autumn, the root holes of the grapes are mulched with peat or sawdust. Gardeners often use spruce branches for shelter from frost.
Diseases and pests
Disease resistance is assessed on a scale of 2.5-2.7 points. Therefore, preventive measures should be taken. They are done regularly.
In early spring, before the opening of the buds - a solution of copper sulfate.
In the middle of spring, when the first leaves bloom, also with copper sulfate.
During the budding period, it is treated with colloidal sulfur.
In the summer, they are sprayed with potassium permanganate twice against fungal diseases.
After pruning, in the fall, it is treated with a solution of ferrous sulfate.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
The Artek grape is an early ripening variety. For fresh use, it is stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 0 to +7 degrees. So it can be stored for up to 3 weeks. The berries of this variety are mainly processed for the production of table wines.
