Admiral grapes can be appreciated for their excellent shape, large berries and delicious taste.
Breeding history
The variety appeared thanks to the breeder A.V. Burdak.
Geography of distribution
The admiral will not disappoint any amateur or professional. Most common in Ukraine, but today it grows in large quantities in our country.
Description
The variety has a bisexual flower type. These are vigorous grapes that require pruning. Doesn't have any special requirements for leaving. The only thing that needs to be paid special attention to is the need to shorten the inflorescences after the appearance of the ovaries. If you do not touch them, then one inflorescence should remain for one shoot, no more, otherwise there will be an overload of the bush.
The admiral is used to make table wine. Berries do not crack, wasps do not knock off bushes.
Ripening period
Admiral is an early variety. The ripening period is 100-110 days.
Bunches
The shape of the bunches is cylindrical. The density is medium-friable. Each one is gaining a mass of 600-1100 grams.
Berries
The berries have a beautiful dark blue color. Sugar in them is 180-190 g / dm³. The acidity is at the level of 6 g / dm³. The variety is also appreciated for its fleshy and juicy pulp.
Each berry has an oval shape. They reach 12-16 grams. If we talk about dimensions, then it is 32x26 mm.
Taste
If the Admiral did not have a harmonious taste, he would hardly be appreciated by gardeners.
Yield
The yield is high, but in the absence of pruning, the bushes are heavily overloaded with bunches, which only harms them. By the age of 4, the bush is capable of producing up to 16 kilograms of berries. By the age of 5 even more. Under good conditions, many gardeners manage to get up to 40 kilograms.
If planting is carried out in the southern region of the country, then often a second crop is obtained from stepchildren. It is harvested 3 weeks later than from the main vine.
Growing features
The Admiral's vine ripens completely along its entire length, so there are no problems with planting material. Cuttings are quickly taken at the planting site and root. The soil doesn't really matter.
Landing
It is better not to plant a bush close to a fence or a building, the Admiral loves the sun. A distance of 3 meters is kept from other crops.
Pits are dug several weeks before the intended planting. Drainage must be laid at the bottom. It can be a simple broken brick.
A third of the pit is filled with earth, which is pre-mixed with humus and nitrogen fertilizer. Ordinary soil is laid on top. After planting, the grapes must be watered, the ground is mulched from above with sawdust.
Pollination
Additional pollination is not required.
Pruning
Medium pruning, made for 3-4 buds.
Watering
For high-quality fruiting, the variety requires a sufficient amount of moisture, but its excess also harms the plant. When the growing season begins, each bush is watered at the root. A bucket of water is enough once a week. A month later, the number of waterings is halved.
Top dressing
The first and main feeding is carried out in the spring. A mixture of 2 kilograms of manure, 50 grams of ash, 30 grams of superphosphate is ideal for this. All this dissolves in 10 liters of water.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
Shelter is required for the Admiral. Its frost resistance is -23 ° С.
Diseases and pests
Among the advantages for which the variety can be appreciated: resistance to diseases and pests. If you carry out standard preventive spraying, then 3 times per season is enough to avoid problems.
If a grape is exposed to any disease or insect, this always affects its appearance.
Storage
The admiral can be placed on the table without hesitation. It keeps well in the refrigerator. They consume berries not only fresh, but also pickle, boil compotes.
