Norway spruce "Push": description and subtleties of cultivation
Spruce is a large class of the pine family, with a large number of different species. Each has its own characteristics that attract attention and please the eye. Today we will talk about such a species as common spruce "Push" - a miniature representative of pine trees.
Description
Push is a dwarf spruce evergreen shrub. This variety is considered relatively new. It is a derivative of the Akrokona spruce. They first learned about it in 1975, when the shrub was bred by mutation at the University of Berlin. The discoverer was Push Werder, who christened the spruce the witch's broom. Designed as a separate culture in 1987.
At a young age, the height of the tree is only 30-40 cm, and the diameter of the crown is 50 cm. For a year, the average growth is 7 cm. Only by the age of 10, the spruce reaches 1 m in height and width, acquiring the shape of a ball. The shoots of the bush are strong, massive. The lower branches sag slightly, and the upper branches are directed to the sides. Mature needles of the bush are tough, dense, dark green in color, up to 2 cm long.
Young shoots are colored light green, light green and contrast effectively with adults. By the age of 7-9 years, the tree takes on its usual shape. It looks like an irregular sphere, rather a hemisphere with fuzzy boundaries. Crohn develops asymmetrically, but this cannot be attributed to disadvantages. This silhouette looks intricate and unusual.
Fruits appear on spruce in spring. The tree begins to bear fruit from an early age. Initially, small rounded red bumps are formed. Ripening, the fruits take a fusiform shape and change color from pale pink to bright purple.
Cones ripen for a whole year, and by the next spring they fade, acquiring a brown color.
The tree at the time of fruiting is simply strewn with bright cones. A miniature tree with many colorful fruits looks very expressive. Adult, brown buds can be left on until spring. But if they themselves do not fall away, you need to remove them to make room for a new ovary.
Care
For planting ordinary spruce "Push" choose a sunny place or partial shade. It is allowed to plant a shrub even in winter. The tree is very sensitive to drought, does not like high temperatures, preferring coolness. Spruce is planted to a depth of 70 cm. The preferred soil composition is turf, peat and sand. When planting, the plant is abundantly watered and fertilized.
In the future, it is enough to apply top dressing 2 times a year.
The shrub loves moist soil. But having a shallow root system requires good drainage. To do this, use sand, crushed brick, laying in a layer up to 20 cm. The plant does not tolerate waterlogging. Spruce is planted away from groundwater, as it can erode the roots. In this case, the tree will simply fall. In addition, excess water contributes to the development of the fungus.
In hot weather, in order to prevent the soil from drying out, "Push" is watered several times a week, pouring up to 10 liters of water under each bush. The tree is more resistant to cold, withstanding frosts down to -40 C. For a successful wintering, it is recommended to sprinkle the area around the trunk with peat.
Periodically it is necessary to prune the tree. In the case of sanitary pruning, which can be carried out at any time of the year, dry, damaged branches are removed. Formative pruning, during which the shrub is given a beautiful, desired shape, is carried out exclusively in the spring before the start of sap flow.
