The widespread adoption of mobile phones and computers has, of course, changed the situation in the world. But still there are those who want to enjoy the traditional ways of listening to music, watching movies. In addition, you often have to choose a DVD player as a gift, and in any case, it is important to know how to do it.

Portable

This type of DVD-player will appeal to those who travel frequently and spend a lot of time on business trips, traveling around the city. It is great to watch a movie with the help of such a device or listen to the performance of your favorite band in a hotel, train, or plane. Yes, and while waiting at the station or in a traffic jam, during a trip out of town, too.

Access to the electrical network will not be needed for quite some time. However, the cost of such devices is quite tangible.

Stationary

This is a completely different level of characteristics and capabilities. Such devices are reliable and relatively cheap. However, they are very functional.

But you should immediately understand that it is impossible to expect Hi-Fi quality from such a reproducing device. The simplest home DVD players are used for music and video.

With TV tuner

This option is very useful. Even the most extensive collection of movies and music gets boring over time. There is a desire to get acquainted with something new, with up-to-date information. It is unnecessary to talk about the practical value of information about the weather, traffic conditions and various incidents.

TV tuner devices usually allow you to view both digital terrestrial and satellite broadcasts.

The assortment, of course, does not end with these three main types. A recorder is very useful. It will allow you to save those films and programs that are broadcast live or replay. Almost all modern devices have a timer function. Thanks to her, the recording is made automatically even when the person is not at home or it is impossible to distract himself.

Some recorders work with a USB flash drive, but still it is not very convenient. Advanced models use different types of hard drives. This maximizes the possibilities for both recording and subsequent processing of the recorded information. Recreation of content is fine-tuned and easy enough.

It should be noted that the recording unit can work with different types of discs.

It is better to use a generic type capable of entering information on:

  • DVD-R;
  • DVD-RAM;
  • DVD + R;
  • DVD-RW.

Hi-Fi players only play a small list of data formats. But this is difficult to consider as a disadvantage at all. After all, such a problem is more than compensated for by the impressive perfection of reproduction as a whole. The sound and video quality will be equally brilliant. Even the most difficult images in terms of demonstration, the most juicy and rich sound - everything is subject to this class of technology.

Such category of players as DVD-receivers deserves special attention. In fact, this is already a home theater built around a disc player. The presence of a built-in receiver makes it possible to work with Dolby Digital, DTS. It is impossible to adjust the sound volume through the front panel and other standard means. However, you can use a connection to a separate external audio system, and then its adjustment will be available completely.

One of the innovations is Blu-ray players. In terms of quality, they are not only not inferior to simple devices that play only DVDs, but also surpass them. Some models can connect remotely to Internet resources, play streaming video.Maximum capacity media can be connected. Full HD category images can be recorded and played back.

Even mini devices can be made with HDMI output. This is a completely modern standard for transmitting information over a video cable. It will be possible to broadcast images of the 4K standard, not to mention Full HD. It also becomes possible to transmit copy-protected video.

It should be borne in mind that there are many modifications of this data transfer standard, and you should always clarify what exactly is meant by sellers and manufacturers.

Almost all DVD players released today are made with USB input. It is necessary to connect the most ordinary USB flash drive more often than it might seem from the outside. But it should be borne in mind that it is not always possible to play a movie or just a large clip via the USB port. In many models, this input is designed exclusively for playing pictures and music, and even then in a limited list of formats.

Important: the price of a specific device does not matter much here. The thoughtfulness of the design turns out to be much more important. The reasons for the weakness can be not only the processor or video subsystem, but also low-quality software.

You should always be interested in these details, and find out with what maximum capacity the flash drive can be used. You also need to carefully read the reviews so as not to get too weak functionality for a lot of money.

What formats do they support?

Of course, all DVD players read the corresponding laser discs. But the ability to read them at a technical level and competent software processing of information are two different things. You can always count on MPEG-2 or AC-3 playback. Also, a consumer player most often copes confidently with PCM discs. But devices that work with MOV, WMA, WMV are much less common.

Also, almost all manufactured devices work confidently with recordings:

  • DivX;
  • H. 264 (MPEG-4);
  • MKV.

    But with AVI, problems may already arise. A reliable link with DivX is required. Some players are capable of playing rewritten discs. But this nuance needs to be clarified additionally. Audio CDs are readable by almost all existing equipment, especially with MP3 and CDA (CD-Audio).

    Combo players that can play VHS are often commercially available. In Russia, videotapes at one time became very widespread and remained popular for a very long time. The advantage is clear - it is more profitable to buy a prefab unit than a DVD and cassette player separately. Some of them also support VCD, SVCD.

    Important: the MP4 format is not supported by almost all existing DVD players.

    Popular models

    The rating of models should start with the Eplutus LS-780T. The 7-inch display shows a picture with good detail. It is possible to reproduce not only laser discs, but also flash cards. Thanks to the remote antenna, reception of the signal of 20 federal TV channels becomes available.

    The only downside is the insufficiently durable plastic case.

    The BBK DVP030S is also a good choice. MPEG-4 support, Xvid is welcome. Dimensions - 0.225x0.045x0.19 m.Weight is 0.75 kg. Even HDCD discs can be played.

    Hyundai H-DVD220 is also among the best. The black device is capable of working with MPEG4, DivX. HDCD format is also supported. The system can write information to USB media. The basic package includes a remote control.

    You can also take a closer look at the Supra DVS-14U. The model has an improved error protection unit. It is possible to read discs in any geographic area. The menu is completely Russified. JPEG image files are played.

    It is also worth noting:

    • audio output with two channels;
    • RCA cable included;
    • total current consumption - 20 W;
    • allowable voltage - from 90 to 240 V.

    How to choose?

    Most important, of course, is the list of available file formats.Ease of use depends on their variety. It is very unpleasant if, when trying to play this or that audio, the video system gives a refusal. For both stationary and especially portable models, dimensions are critical. If they are too large, placing the device in the designated place or putting it in a bag will not work.

    If they are too small, it will be inconvenient to use the player, and you cannot count on a solid screen resolution. For long-term viewing of large films or even several films in a row, it is logical to focus on DVD changers. They will allow you to spend less energy on daily replacement drives. As for the combined models, where DVD + VHS playback is combined, they are becoming less and less relevant. Now such devices are needed only by those who have accumulated a large number of videotapes.

    The composite connector has almost no practical use. The quality of the broadcast it provides is not very high by modern standards. Almost all modern models allow signal processing via SCART. But it must be borne in mind that the most demanded solution is still HDMI. Using this connector, it will be possible to connect the player to both TVs and desktop monitors or laptops.

    Audio connectors should ideally be 2.0 or 5.1. The second option is even preferable because it provides the highest sound quality. But it is worth remembering that you will sometimes have to buy additional acoustics. The built-in speakers of TVs and laptops often become a bottleneck that prevents you from revealing the benefits of the broadcast sound.

    It is very important that a good video processor is built in and that the amount of internal memory is as large as possible.

    How to use?

    All DVD players can be successfully operated without a remote control. But consider the use of such a technique more appropriate on the basis of official instructions. All manufacturers mention that if the device is inactive for a long time, it must be turned off. You should strictly avoid humidifying the players themselves or using them in a particularly humid environment. It is worth remembering that some of the components are under high voltage inside, and therefore self-repair is impossible.

    After transferring the player to a cold, or, conversely, to a warm place, you need to wait 60-120 minutes before turning it on. Otherwise, condensation may damage the sensitive laser head of the player. Do not use DVD players as a stand for anything. Even the lightest object can seriously interfere with playback. It is also undesirable to place the players near loudspeakers and powerful speakers, otherwise irreparable interference will be induced.

    The devices must be cleaned with neutral detergents. They should be used only in dosage. If in any doubt, it is best to contact technical support first. Repairs and maintenance of players should be carried out only by specialists from authorized service centers. This technique should not be installed where there is no grounding, where vibration or other mechanical vibrations can act.

    Attention: no manufacturer extends their warranty to cover natural screen burn-in.

    Therefore, it is necessary in every possible way to protect the device from direct sunlight and even electric rays. Both the players and the discs they play require special care and careful handling. It is worth remembering firmly that the use of such a technique at temperatures below 0 and above + 45 degrees is unacceptable. The manufacturers do not accept any responsibility for such use of their products.
