Miele hob highlights
Miele functional hobs are not only stylish design, ease of use, but also a guarantee of safety and comfort in the process of preparing a variety of dishes.
About company
The independent German company Miele has been specializing in the production of high-end home appliances since 1899. The principles of the company are systematic development and improvement, which is supported by numerous awards and prizes awarded by Miele throughout its history. Depending on the heating element used, Miele hobs are classified into the following types:
- gas;
- electrical;
- induction.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Gas Panels
Gas hobs have a variety of appearance, color, design, and different shapes of burners. As a material from which the gas surface is made, traditional stainless steel or modern and stylish glass ceramics can be used. The steel gas hob has high wear resistance, easily withstands cleaning even with aggressive detergents (KM 2356, KM 2010Q, KM 2034).
This version of the gas panel is ideally combined with kitchens, in the interior of which there are silver or chrome elements, although in the classic version of the kitchen it looks very harmonious.
The glass-ceramic gas stove also has a high level of wear resistance, although it is slightly inferior in cleaning to stainless steel surfaces. The main disadvantage of a glass-ceramic surface is its low impact resistance: the slab may crack or splinter if hit hard. A more practical option for glass ceramics is considered to be "tempered glass".
Gas hobs can accommodate up to 5 burners of various diameters: both traditional and powerful woks, which allow you to speed up the process of cooking large portions of food and instantly boil water (models KM 2034, KM 2356, KM 3034, KM 3054). All gas panels are equipped with electric ignition.
Most of Miele's innovative gas surfaces have the function QuickStart (KM 2356, KM 3034, KM 3054) - quick switch on with one hand movement. The front-mounted rotary switches are practical plastic or metal, making it easy and safe to adjust the power level of the cooking zones.
Miele's advanced gas surfaces are complemented by GasStop options (KM 2010G, KM 2034, KM 3010) & Restart (KM 2356, KM 3034, KM 3054), which automatically stop the gas supply in the event of a sudden flame extinguishment. The gas surface "recognizes" this situation and independently reignites. In case of an unsuccessful attempt to resume the flame, it shuts off the gas supply.
Despite the modernity and innovation, the gas hob still has some drawbacks, one of which is that the gas does not burn out in full and settles as soot on the entire surface of the kitchen. There are also risks of injury when working with "open fire" and leaks of blue fuel.
Characteristics of electrical types
Innovative electrical surfaces are popular in modern kitchen designs. They may differ in the type of coating, type of burners and heating elements. Miele hobs with Hi-Light hobs (KM 6215, KM 6212, KM 6230, KM 6520 FR, KM 6542 FL, KM 6565 FR, KM 6564 FL, KM 6540 FR). The basis of such burners is a sinuous-shaped tape corrugated heater located along the entire perimeter of the designated area.
Rapid heating of such a panel takes only 5-7 seconds thanks to the unique ExtraSpeed option. High power heating elements, "smart" synchronization, highly efficient temperature control contribute to achieving maximum results. Electric hobs made of glass-ceramics around the entire perimeter are protected by a high-strength stainless steel frame, which can be of various designs.
The independent surfaces of Miele cooking zones allow you to make the best use of your kitchen space and plan your kitchen interior. Thanks to the auxiliary heating expansion areas and the presence of heating zones of different shapes, Miele panels allow you to use any type of cookware (models KM 5845, KM 5814, KM 5816).
For maximum convenience, all Miele electric hobs are equipped with a timer. With it, it is easy and simple to control the cooking process, you just need to set the duration of the period for each burner, at the end of which the stove will automatically turn off. With a light touch, the panel can be stopped for a short time (up to 20 seconds), for example, in order to move the dishes or remove dirt, while the applied settings will not be reset (Stop & Go function). The advanced Con @ ctivity function allows you to synchronize the hob with the extractor hood and adjust its operation according to the power of the burners, which helps maintain a comfortable microclimate in the kitchen.
The safety features of electrical surfaces include:
- residual heat indicator, which will tell you that the hotplate is still hot;
- function of automatic shutdown of the panel during long-term operation in one heating mode;
- safety lock - to prevent unwanted switching on and changing the operating mode settings;
- automatic shutdown of the hotplate in case of overheating, as well as in case of obstructing the touch panel of the panel with foreign objects.
The glass-ceramic electrical surface is quite simple to care for: you just need to immediately remove the dirt and prevent it from drying out. According to customer reviews, electrical surfaces are easier to maintain, but they are one of the main "consumers" of electricity, which can significantly increase the bill for utility bills.
Induction surfaces: their pros and cons
This type of burner is heated by the energy of a magnetic field, which is formed from the interaction of an inductive coil with a powerful electric generator located under the hob. The resulting energy is transferred directly to the container in which the dish is prepared. One of the important features of these Miele hobs is that the induction hob heats the bottom of the cookware, and remains cool during this time.
This feature greatly enhances the safety level when using the equipment. Maximum energy efficiency is achieved by automatically detecting the size of the pan and supplying energy to the desired cooking zone. The only caveat to induction models is the need to use cookware with a thick magnetic bottom.
Among the safety options in models with induction hobs (KM 6115, KM 6117, KM 6319, KM 6328-1, KM 6329, KM 6347, KM 6362-1, KM 6366-1, KM 6367-1, KM 6381, KM 6388, KM 6629, KM 6699, KM 6839) the following can also be noted:
- if there are no dishes in the heating zone or there is an unsuitable for use, the power of the burner is turned off;
- the presence of a three-stage indicator that will warn about the residual level of heat received from contact with the heated bottom of the dishes;
- blocking of all functions and protection against unwanted switching on allow to avoid accidental switching on of the stove by children;
- overheating protection - a system that automatically turns off the hotplate in case of overheating (if there is liquid or a foreign object on the panel, the hotplate also turns off).
The unique DirectSelection Plus function of Miele cooking zones makes it easy to select the optimal power level and time period. The presence of an individual backlit keypad for each hotplate, digital display gives induction surfaces a stylish design. The technology of PowerFlex hobs (in models KM 6347, KM 6367-1, KM 6362-1, KM 6381, KM 6388, KM 6629, KM 6839, KM 6699) erases all stereotypes regarding possible kitchen appliances.
Large pots, various baking tins - all this can be easily used for cooking. The high power level of these hobs (7.4 kW) makes it possible to achieve the maximum heating speed.
Like electric glass ceramic hobs, induction hobs are equipped with the Con @ ctivity function.
In general, induction hobs have a number of advantages over “simpler” hobs. The main one is the fastest possible heating of the bottom of the dishes used, and the hob itself remains practically cold, which significantly increases the level of safety during operation. Of the shortcomings, buyers note the high cost of Miele hobs and the need to use special kitchen utensils, although it will not be difficult to choose the right cookware for an induction cooker, due to its wide range.
The wide variety of high-quality and versatile Miele hobs allows you to satisfy the needs of even the most demanding customer.
