Types of spouts for the mixer
One of the most important plumbing fixtures is a mixer, with the help of which the temperature of the water coming from the water supply is regulated. It does this by mixing hot and cold water. At the same time, the correct selection of the spout for the mixer will help create the most comfortable conditions for using water for various purposes.
Peculiarities
The spout is an integral part of the mixer; it is most often presented in the form of a curved metal tube (gander) that allows cold or hot water to pass through to washbasins and bathtubs. In simpler terms, it is a "spout" from which water flows when the tap is open. As a rule, it is an integral part of the mixer, sometimes it is sold separately.
When purchasing a device, seek advice from an experienced plumber or sales consultant to avoid mistakes in choosing. They will be able to determine the quality level of the part and the materials used. In addition, the master will recommend the required dimensions suitable for a particular mixer.
When purchasing, it is necessary to observe that the package includes a seal and a nut, which differ according to the following criteria: shape, size and material of the product.
It must be remembered: when buying such a device, you should pay attention to the presence of two fixation rings, which indicates high quality.
The classic spout pipe is straight and curved; long and short; angular and without corners. These models can be wall-mounted. The variety of equipment is represented by square, triangular and round designs.
Spouts can be of unusual shape, tubular, brazed or cast, can vary in weight.
Products are often included in a set of overhead shower sets; the set includes a check valve that prevents the flow of water in the opposite direction.
Among the advantages of the available types are the following:
- strength, durability (the terms of use of these products reach ten years);
- reliability, safety;
- different sizes;
- easy mounting and use of devices;
- compatibility with various types of cranes;
- availability of prices for this product;
- hygiene and comfort;
- easy care and the possibility of disinfection;
- resistance of the material to corrosion;
- ease of use;
- attractiveness and variety, which allows you to choose a device for any bathroom interior.
Matt textures in the interior design of the bathroom are becoming more and more popular, and the matt chrome of the mixer is also practical, because it does not show dirt on it. The body of the device is round and flat and can be mounted on a sink.

There are several types of spouts, depending on the design of this element.
- Swivel spout. This type of spout is designed to direct the water flow in the desired direction. A versatile appliance that can be used both in the bathtub and in the sink or sink in the kitchen.
- Static spout. This type of mixer does not allow changing the position of the tap. It has a long service life. Compared to the swivel, the static spout is not equipped with a movable mechanism, which is not resistant to breakage.
- Cascade spout. The cascade spout has an excellent transmission function, a large width and flatness of the outlet stream. Outwardly, the product resembles a waterfall, which creates a feeling of natural comfort in the bathroom.The "cascade" structure is allowed to be mounted on the walls, the side of the bathtub (especially for the whirlpool bathtub), the decorative stand, the podium and the front part adapted for washing the hair.
- Spring spout. Modern design solutions of designers have made the spring spout flexible, which made it possible to bend the structure in different directions without hindrance. This type of model is practical and cost effective, which eliminates the extra cost of a separate mixer.
- Wall-mounted mixer. Such a mixer is mounted on a vertical surface. It is mainly located in the bathroom, but you can also see it in the kitchen. The use of a single-lever tap contributes to saving hot and cold water consumption, as well as easy temperature control. It must be remembered that the water flow must be directed towards the middle of the sink.
Skilled workers advise installing devices with a lower and middle spout exclusively on washbasins, where they only plan to brush their teeth and perform the washing process.
There are also mixers with two spouts. Such devices allow for a double flow of water - regular and filtered.
Spouts are also divided into types depending on the shape.
- Short. This type is a device of small size, but with increased strength, as well as reliability in operation. The disadvantage of the equipment can be called sluggishness and use only for its intended purpose (it is difficult and inconvenient to draw water).
- Long. It is a versatile device because it is used in the bathtub and sink. The main disadvantage is that the rubber gasket wears out quickly. Experts recommend to coat the old gasket with sanitary silicone sealant.
- Designer. Quite often this type is attributed to the "cascade" model, which has a high level of reliability and convenience. When purchasing this model, you need to choose a mixer that is made of durable material.
- Exhaust. Such models can often be found in the kitchen, but they are allowed to be installed in the bathroom. Exhaust spouts allow you to easily draw water into various containers that are used by residents in everyday life. Such a device can be purchased with a shower head set that allows it to be used in a shower stall.
Dimensions (edit)
The standard spout height is twenty-five centimeters.
Ganders come in the following sizes:
- short - 14-18 cm;
- medium - 20-23 cm;
- long - 23-27, 30-35 cm.
Foreign manufacturers produce flattened models of 40, 45 and 50 centimeters.
The kitchen sink is often equipped with a high spout. This leads to an increase in the usable area of the sink and saves the user from the inconvenience of washing large dishes.
The side of the bath is equipped with a short and fixed spout, or the wall above it can be arranged. In this case, the gander's mobility will be unnecessary. It will be better to take care of high reliability by reducing the number of components that are prone to frequent breakdowns.
How to install?
The mixer is installed first.
To do this, you need to take the mixer and screw the connecting hoses to it. Do not tighten the hose too tight - you can strip the threads, which should not be allowed to prevent leaks. Then you need to check if the hose is leaking. To extend the service life, the gasket must be treated with a special grease.
The next step is to install the seal.
The mixing heel has a groove. It serves to install a seal that prevents damage to the shell of the sink during attachment and gives rigidity to this place. Moreover, the seal helps to avoid leakage under the sink during operation.
After that, connecting hoses are threaded through the hole in the sink, then the mixer is installed. A rubber seal is put on at the bottom, then a metal crescent washer and a nut is tightened. Tighten manually first. At the end of the installation, the nut is finally clamped with a wrench. It is important not to overdo it with applied force.
The next step is to install the sink directly with the necessary equipment already attached to the bedside table, after which you need to screw the fasteners.
Next, two cranes are installed. They are attached to the mixer using an adjustable wrench. Then the valves are put on the taps, bolted using a screwdriver. Then the top caps are put on the valves. The main thing is that during installation you do not confuse the blue cap for cold water, and the red one for hot water.
Then the spout is attached to the mixer.
When choosing a spout, one must rely on the layout, size and shape of the sinks, and, of course, start from the overall design of the room and your own preferences.
To begin with, we take the spout and check for the presence of a sealing gasket. If you wish, you can lubricate the gasket with special agents that extend the service life. Then the fastening will be more reliable. Then the spout is inserted into the mixer and screwed well with nuts using a wrench. The spout is a replaceable part of the mixer.
In this process, using connecting hoses (already screwed to the mixer), hot and cold water is supplied to the mixer from the plumbing system.
The final step can be considered a leakage test at the attachment point, where the hoses and pipes are connected to the mixer. If a leak is found in the fasteners, dismantle, check the gaskets and replace, if necessary.
To clean or replace parts, you need to remove and unscrew all the elements in the reverse order of their installation.

Advice
It is important to maintain a certain height of the spout in relation to the depth of the shell. The deeper the sink, the higher the kitchen spout should be, and vice versa.
Before replacing, carefully read the installation instructions for the selected crane. You may not be able to assemble the device yourself and will need to provide for the costs of a qualified plumber.
