How to choose a washbasin bracket?
The interior of the bathroom provides for the availability of plumbing equipment with an optimal position in space. Depending on this, each sink model assumes a certain mounting method. Among the latter, brackets are gaining popularity, with the help of which it is not difficult to hang the sink on the wall.
Peculiarities
Anchoring with brackets connects the sink to the wall surface. The products reliably hold the structure, despite the heavy weight. Depending on this, the brackets differ in many characteristics: shape, method of fastening, structure and materials of manufacture. Also, the consumer can choose an individual design that suits the home interior.
The mounting system can be installed on any surface:
- brick;
- plasterboard;
- wooden;
- concrete.
Due to their high technical characteristics, the brackets are resistant to mechanical damage. Products are designed to hold any mass and shape.
Even stone sinks will be securely attached to the wall.
When fixing the sink with a suspension system, some nuances should be taken into account.
- It is advisable not to install heavy sinks on "soft" walls. The base in the bathroom must be solid and thick. For example, plasterboard walls are not suitable for installing large washbasins due to the fact that they require additional anchors with a length of at least 40 mm.
- Manufacturing materials give the brackets a certain stiffness. In accordance with this parameter, the weight of the supporting structure is determined. Brackets with a width of 240 mm or 260 mm are not able to withstand ceramic washbasins, which require a 32 cm fixture. Metal products can withstand 300 mm, 320 mm and 360 mm brackets.
- When buying brackets, consider their design. In some cases, the shape and size of the mount does not correspond to the place of adhesion to the plumbing.
Installation can be easily done in-house. This feature increases the demand for brackets in the building materials market. However, apart from the advantages, the details also have serious disadvantages.
For example, a sink tilted at an angle will have to be dismantled and then reinstalled. Also, the brackets cannot be adjusted.
In addition, durable parts “hit the wallet” hard, having no budget counterparts with the same technical characteristics.
Types of mounts
The suspended structure has already become a common accessory in the bathroom. Over a long period of operation of sinks, many types of brackets have been created, which differ in structure, parameters and maximum permissible weight.
Depending on the features of operation and technical characteristics, the brackets are divided into the following types:
- specialized;
- standard;
- design.
The latter are distinguished by the highest price on the market due to the fact that in most cases they are given an individual decorative form for the design of a particular bathroom. They are made to order.
With regard to the type of production material, several types of fasteners are distinguished.
- Steel brackets. Fasteners of this type are produced by a welded method. The result is a single structure that looks like the letter "G" or "T". Low-cost options are made from shaped pipes.These brackets have simple structure and short service life.
- According to the type of profiled steel frame, it is possible to make a wrap-around bracket, which is then attached to the wall. A sink is installed on an arched base. This category of brackets is the most durable. The platform is securely fastened to the wall, eliminating the possibility of displacement or damage to the sink.
- There are brackets made of cast iron. They have an elongated solid base that rests on a sturdy platform to form a monolithic structure. The cast iron bracket resembles the letter "T".
- To install sinks with non-standard parameters, metal brackets are used: sector, rectangular and arcuate. Some designs are equipped with sliding-type units.
- Chromium can also serve as a material for manufacturing. Such brackets in most cases have a permanent matte color.
Nuances of choice
Fixing the sink to the wall is not complete without brackets. Long-term and convenient operation can be ensured with appropriate knowledge about them.
Parts are classified into standard and custom parts. The latter are produced together with a decorative sink, which means that they do not have to be selected separately in the construction market.
Specialized brackets can be ornate to match the washbasin style. The protective function against corrosion is taken over by a ceramic layer or an anti-corrosion agent. In most cases, nickel and anodized coatings are used.
Standard fasteners are made from cast iron and steel intended for welding. Materials for manufacturing are covered with a protective layer of a dye.
When choosing brackets of the standard type, it is necessary to take into account the technical characteristics and recommendations from the manufacturer. For a certain weight of the shell, the annotation must indicate a weight that exceeds its mass.
Do not forget that in some cases people lean on the washbasin. And this is a few extra pounds, which increase the load on the mounts.
Therefore, when choosing fasteners for the sink, you should purchase structures that are able to withstand the load more than the expected weight.
For example, in the case of purchasing a sink weighing 70 kg, you should buy mounts designed for a weight of 90 kg.
Installation tips
Annotation for installing sinks using special fastening systems is quite simple. Following the instructions, the owner of the apartment can easily install the washbasin in a suspended position.
Of the tools you will need:
- puncher;
- centimeter tape measure;
- hammer;
- marker.
The drill for the hammer drill is selected depending on the dowels with plastic cores that fit the brackets. To carry out the installation of the mounts as evenly as possible, you will need a water level and a pencil to create marks.
To carry out work, you should build on some recommendations.
- If the wall is not strong enough, it is recommended to strengthen it with cement mortar before starting work, otherwise the fastening may fall out under the weight of the washbasin.
- At the first stage, 85 cm is measured from the floor. Due to this, the shell will be located at a level of up to 90 cm. In a family with small people, these parameters are reduced.
- You should also measure the distance between the mounting holes on the side of the sink that will engage the wall. Using a pencil and a water level, make appropriate marks on the wall. Also, before drilling, you need to make sure that the brackets purchased will fit the specific sink model.
- The holes in the wall should be the same diameter as the plastic cores of the dowels.
When drilling, it is necessary to keep the hammer drill in a clearly horizontal position. If you move from side to side, the hole will be too wide.
Then the brackets will not be able to hold the sink securely. For a tighter fastening, you can make a mark on the drill of the punch with a marker for 1.25 times the length of the plastic core.
In the case of installing brackets on plasterboard walls, use wooden chops, replacing the plastic nozzle from the dowels. Their diameter must be larger than the diameter of the hole.
