It's no secret that in the country you want to feel no less comfortable than in a city apartment. A shower cubicle is a useful and necessary thing in any summer cottage, because it will allow you to refresh yourself during a hot summer day and will be simply irreplaceable after working in the garden or vegetable garden. Therefore, many owners ask themselves the question of arranging comfortable conditions at their summer cottage with the help of shower cabins.

Features and types

You can build a shower cabin yourself, or you can buy a ready-made structure that you just need to install correctly. Previously, an outdoor shower was made of wood in the form of a small house, but this option has long outlived its usefulness, and new designs from various materials came to replace it.

There are several types of country shower cabins, which will be discussed below.

Shower corners

The most common option is considered to be the so-called shower enclosures, which are a simple structure from a pallet and two side walls. The design of this form fell in love with many summer residents for its relatively low cost, simple installation and operation. It will not be difficult for even one person to assemble it, and since such a structure has no functions, it easily survives the winter without any damage.

When choosing a shower enclosure, you should pay attention to its pallet, sides and the material from which they are made. It is best to purchase an acrylic structure that heats up quickly. But ceramics and metal are considered cooler materials, so to take a shower, you will first have to warm up the room. Acrylic is a lighter option, but at the same time it has a higher strength.

The pallet can be corrugated or smooth. A corrugated floor is made not for beauty, but for practicality - such a surface is less slippery and, in comparison with a smooth one, is not traumatic. If the family has children, then you can purchase a pallet with sides.

When choosing shower enclosures, you should also pay attention to the cab door opening system, which can be hook or roller. As practice shows, the roller system is more durable, since the hooks quickly fly off, and the flaps begin to ride crooked.

Mobile shower cabin

The main advantage of such shower cabins is their connection to utilities. If you wish, you can even purchase a so-called winter cabin, inside which a water heater is installed. After the purchase, you just need to bring it to the electrical network - and you can take a shower without waiting for preheating.

Typically, the standard set includes the following structural elements:

  • inner pallet;
  • clothes hanger;
  • gate valve.

A warm summer shower cubicle will be a pleasure to visit at any time of the year.

Open showers

They are considered the cheapest and simplest. Their design features are the presence of one, two and even three walls. As a rule, they are prefabricated, so the further operation of the booth depends on the correct and high-quality installation.

Enclosed shower cabins

This is the most popular and frequently used summer shower option. Such cabins are highly functional - they often come complete with a hydromassage or steam bath. Their construction consists of four walls, a roof and a pallet. Usually they are sold already assembled, all that remains is to make a connection to the engineering systems - and the cabin is ready for use.

Built-in cabins

This version of the cabins can be safely called the most expensive to install. Its design is characterized by complexity and large dimensions. Often it comes complete with a steam generator, seats, and a built-in massage shower. Some models represent a hydrobox - a combination of a shower with a bath. With such a cabin, even in the country, you can feel at your best.

Location

There are many ways to arrange shower structures in a summer cottage. An excellent option to create comfortable conditions for staying outside the city is to equip a full bathroom with a shower. Of course, compared to simpler methods, this option is more expensive, but the result is worth it.

The main location of the summer shower is the area near the house and the garden.

The first option has several pros and cons. On the one hand, it is very convenient to have a common sewage system with the house, but constant humidity negatively affects the outer cladding of the building. On the other hand, when arranging such a shower stall, you will need to equip high-quality drainage - otherwise the foundation of the house will suffer. You also need to carefully consider the drainage system, and tile the wall of the house. With the right approach, it is quite possible to equip an excellent outdoor shower without harming the building.

Installing a shower in the garden is a more economical and practical option. Today, you can find an excellent inexpensive cab on sale, which will be delivered already assembled, and the owners will only have to equip the sewage system and water supply.

If desired, such a cabin can be easily built with your own hands. But in this case, only one frame assembly will take a lot of time. But the independent selection of durable materials and the manufacture of a durable structure will create the perfect outdoor shower.

Materials (edit)

When purchasing ready-made cabins or making these structures with your own hands, you should carefully consider the choice of material, because the service life and ease of operation of the cab in the future depend on its quality and strength properties.

Shower cabins made of wood

Wooden buildings are a classic of a summer cottage shower. Often they are installed in the garden, where it gets cool in the evening, and the water has time to warm up well during the day. In addition, such a cabin can be easily made by yourself.

If we talk about their durability, then daily wetting has a detrimental effect on the wood, respectively, it cannot be said that such a cabin will last for many years. You can extend the service life using special wood products. They will create a protective layer and prevent walls from getting wet, mold growth and decay.

The construction of such cabins is simple and quick. The main thing is to calculate in advance the optimal dimensions, equip the lighting, put up a door or hang a curtain, think over the water supply and drainage system, hang hooks for clothes. It is recommended to install a grate on the floor, then there will be no puddles and dirt next to the shower.

Plastic shower cabins

Such designs in their shapes and sizes practically do not differ from the previous options. The plastic frame is easy to install, but at the same time it is quite durable and can last for more than one decade. Compared to wooden structures, plastic cabins have more significant advantages: resistance of the material to temperatures, precipitation, humidity and mechanical damage.

Of course, like any other material, plastic needs to be cared for, so it is very important to keep the inside and outside of the cabin clean.

The assortment of plastic shower enclosures includes many models that differ in parameters, design and the presence of different functions. Therefore, it will be quite simple to choose the best option for a certain suburban area.

Metal shower cabins

In terms of durability and reliability, such cabins are second to none. Nevertheless, for many years they have not been in demand - this is due to the complexity of installation and operation. Firstly, few people want to be engaged in welding metal sheets, if you can purchase a ready-made structure, which is no worse than metal. And secondly, such shower cabins need to be painted annually, which is not very convenient.

Polycarbonate

Today, polycarbonate structures can be called the most practical and profitable.

Such shower cabins have many advantages:

  • light weight;
  • excellent strength properties;
  • impact resistance;
  • excellent level of heat and sound insulation;
  • plasticity of the material, which allows you to create any shape of the shower cabin;
  • heat resistance;
  • quick assembly;
  • fire resistance;
  • durability.

Of course, polycarbonate, like any other material, has some drawbacks. It is easy to scratch, and many small scratches immediately spoil the appearance of the entire structure. In such scratches, dirt actively accumulates, which will be more difficult to wash. Despite the fact that the material tolerates high and low temperatures well, their difference can lead to deformation. Therefore, specialists often leave small gaps when assembling a structure.

Another disadvantage is the "fear" of ultraviolet radiation, although today most manufacturers offer cabins covered with protective films.

Criterias of choice

Most summer residents prefer to build an outdoor shower the old fashioned way - on their own. But the modern pace of life sometimes simply does not allow you to spend time making shower structures with your own hands. Today, factory shower cabins for summer cottages combine high functionality with ease of use, and the range is presented in many models, so everyone can choose an option based on their requirements and capabilities.

When choosing shower cabins, you should pay attention to many factors.

  • Dimensions of the structure. It should not be too oversized so as not to take up a lot of space on the site. At the same time, the cabin should harmoniously fit into the exterior and be comfortable for all family members.
  • Price. It is best to opt for designs from the middle price segment - such products combine build quality and excellent performance properties. Of course, the cost directly depends on the material from which the cabin is made.
  • Volume of the tank. If the family is large, then taking a shower will require a lot of water. In this case, the volume of the tank must be at least 30-40 liters.
  • Additional functions. If the owners do not visit the dacha so often, then you can purchase a cabin with a minimum set of functions.

Installation and equipping

When setting up a shower stall with your own hands, you need to take into account many factors. Even failure to comply with at least one of them can render the shower stall unusable.

Outside

As already mentioned, an outdoor shower can be built from various materials: wood, metal or plastic profile.

In addition to the basic materials, you will need to prepare the following elements:

  • water pipes and fittings for water supply and discharge;
  • water tank;
  • taps and watering can;
  • pallet.

If the cabin is heated, then an electric heating element is purchased separately.

The location of the future shower is preliminarily determined, a sketch of the cabin is made and the amount of materials required is calculated.

The first stage in arranging a cabin at a summer cottage is the supply of water. A simple garden hose will work and connect to any faucet on site, saving money and saving space.

Then proceed to the supply of water pipes. It is necessary to dig holes along the length of the entire future system, the depth of which should be greater than the depth of freezing of the soil, which will allow you to use the shower even in the cold season. When assembling the pipeline, the final element must be a water tap. It is advisable to insulate the water supply with any material, for example, mineral wool.

After laying the pipes, you can start installing the heating element and only then backfill the soil.

The next stage is drainage equipment. There are several ways: drainage into the ground and disposal to the disposal site. The first case is suitable for an area with light, well-permeable soil. The second is considered more practical and involves the discharge of waste water into a cesspool.

The final stage is the assembly of the cabin itself. First, you need to assemble the frame using a bolted connection or welding (based on what material is used). The finished frame must be securely fixed in the prepared place.

If we are talking about a factory shower, then you must carefully follow the assembly instructions from the manufacturer. Some models require the organization of a point foundation.

Then you need to install the tank. If the installation of heating elements is planned, then they are installed before the tank is erected. It is very important to correctly position the heating elements inside the container - they should not touch each other and the surface of the tank, and their location should be as close to the bottom of the container as possible.

The do-it-yourself shower stall is almost ready. All that remains is to install a watering can, coat hooks and pockets for bath accessories. If desired, an outdoor shower can be decorated with various elements.

Having all the necessary tools and a little experience with them, you can build an outdoor shower in just 1 day, and the cost of such a shower will be much lower than purchasing a finished structure.

In room

After installing the shower cabin in the room, you should be prepared for high air humidity after the start of its operation, therefore, first of all, you need to take care of the insulation and protection of the internal walls. You can close them with foil and upholster them with gypsum fiber sheets. The walls are usually laid out with tiles, but in the country you can also use PVC panels, the cost of which is much lower than ceramics.

The next important stage is the arrangement of the floor covering. Waterproofing also plays an important role here. Cement floor screed is an excellent solution to this problem. It is advisable to make the floor in the shower room multi-layer: first - the subfloor, then - the vapor-proof film. Next, you need to lay ecowool insulation, OSB sheet, gypsum fiber board, plastic wrap, cement screed, elastic waterproofing and, finally, ceramic tiles. To reduce the weight of the screed, it is good to use a lightweight filler - expanded clay.

A prerequisite for arranging the floor in the shower is the slope for draining. Thus, any water that falls on the floor will drain into the drain.

Usually, ready-made shower cabins are installed indoors. Before starting the installation, it is important to carefully read the instructions and follow the specified steps exactly.

Recommendations for use

So that during operation there are no problems, it is necessary to monitor the correct use of the structure, as well as to remove dirt and dust from the outside and inside of the cab in a timely manner.

The choice of detergents and cleaning agents is necessary depending on the material from which the cabin is made.There are products on sale for plastic, metal, glass, the use of which gives an excellent result in a matter of minutes, especially since modern products do not cause allergies and do not emit toxic substances. From time to time it is recommended to go through all the surfaces of the shower with a special disinfectant.

It should be noted that frequent use of abrasive products can damage the surface. It is undesirable to use powder formulations, as they easily scratch the surface and, over time, spoil the appearance of the cab.

    It is very important to get rid of water and soap drops on the surface of the walls of the cabin in time, as limescale can form, which will be very difficult to deal with in the future.

    You can watch how to clean the shower stall from limescale in this video.
