Roof insulation Rockwool "Roof Butts"
In the construction of modern buildings, preference is increasingly given to flat roof structures. This is no coincidence, as such a roof can be used in a variety of ways. In addition, building a flat roof is more financially beneficial than a traditional pitched roof.
As at any stage of construction, the arrangement of the roof has a number of its own characteristics. To avoid overheating or hypothermia of the room, builders recommend the use of insulation made of mineral wool slabs or rolls. Such material is easy to install, and is also perfect for insulating flat roofs, both frequently and rarely used. Fortunately, there is a wide selection of insulation materials on the modern market that are easy to use.
The world leader in the production of heat and sound insulation solutions from stone wool for all types of buildings and structures is the Danish company Rockwool. The insulating solutions of this company save consumers from cold, heat, reduce the risk of fire, and protect from external noise.
Dignity
Insulation for a roof Rockwool "Roof Butts" is a rigid heat-insulating slabs made of stone wool based on rocks of the basalt group. It is no coincidence that "Ruf Butts" is one of the best heaters, because it has many advantages:
- dense, durable composition increases the endurance of the material, which does not lose its shape and structure, even when subjected to frequent and dense loads;
- low thermal conductivity will provide coolness in summer and warmth in the cold season;
- resistance to high temperatures (up to 1000 degrees Celsius) does not give the insulation a chance to catch fire, exposure to ultraviolet rays will also not leave a trace on it;
- Rockwool mineral wool slabs practically do not absorb moisture (the moisture absorption coefficient is only one and a half percent, this amount is easily weathered in a few hours);
- a structure that combines two layers (inner soft and outer hard) allows you to maintain unique thermal insulation and does not overload the structure;
- high elasticity provides ease of use, installation becomes easier, the probability of breakage is reduced to zero;
- using "Roof Butts", you are guaranteed not to encounter the effect of a sauna in the room due to the high vapor permeability of the material;
- while manufacturing its products, the Rockwool company uses only natural mineral rocks with the addition of a minimum amount of binders, the amount of which is safe for human health;
- all of the above advantages ensure a long service life of the insulation.
The disadvantages include only the cost of products. The price of the insulation is higher than the market average. But it is better not to economize at the initial stage of construction in order to avoid further problems. It is safe to say that in its niche Rockwool "Roof Butts" is one of the few universal heaters, and the presence of several types of "Roof Butts" only contributes to its even greater distribution.
Types and main characteristics
Today the Rockwool company produces a large number of varieties of roof insulation "Roof Butts". Let's consider their technical characteristics.
Rockwool "Roof Butts N"
This type is intended for the lower layer of insulation, it is of medium density, does not withstand heavy loads, but has a low price. Used in conjunction with Roof Butts B topcoat Rockwool.
Main characteristics:
- density - 115 kg / m3;
- organic matter content - not more than 2.5%;
- thermal conductivity - 0.038 W / (m · K);
- vapor permeability - not less than 0.3 mg / (m.h. Pa);
- water absorption by volume - no more than 1.5%;
- the size of the insulation plate is 1000x600 mm, the thickness varies from 50 to 200 mm.
Rockwool sample "Roof Butts B"
This type is intended to protect the lower layer of insulation. It is characterized by increased rigidity, high strength and small thickness - only 50 mm. The characteristics of this type coincide with the lower layer, with the exception of the density - 190 kg / m3, and the size of the slab -1000x600 mm, thickness - from 40 to 50 mm. Tensile strength for separation of layers - not less than 7.5 kPa.
Rockwool model "Roof Butts S"
If you plan to use insulation in conjunction with a sand screed, consider this special option. It will provide reliable adhesion of coatings. The density of "Ruf Butts S" is 135 kg / m3, and the tensile strength for separation of layers is the same as in the previous version (not less than 7.5 kPa). The size of the insulation plate is 1000x600 mm, the thickness is 50-170 mm.
Rockwool "Roof Butts N&D Extra"
An unusual version of insulation, consisting of two types of plates: thin (density - 130 kg / m³) from the bottom and more durable (density - 235 kg / m³) from above. Such slabs, while maintaining their thermal insulation properties, are lighter and provide easy installation. The size of the insulation plate is 1000x600 mm, the thickness is 60-200 mm.
Rockwool "Roof Butts Optima"
This option differs from its above-described "brother" only in lower density - only 100 kg / m³, which makes it more suitable for premises that are rarely used. The size of the insulation plate is 1000x600x100 mm.
Rockwool "Roof Butts N Lamella"
Lamellas - strips cut from stone wool slabs are used for thermal insulation of roofs with various bases, the shape of which can be both flat and curved. The size of such strips is 1200x200x50-200 mm, and the density is 115 kg / m³.
How to choose?
To choose the right insulation, it is enough to carefully study the features of the materials on the market. But whatever type of material you choose, it will provide maximum strength, low thermal conductivity and will last a long time.
Rockwool can be used in different ways: as a base or as a front surface of the roof. An option that suits most is the simultaneous use of Roof Butts N and Roof Butts V Rockwool boards. This solution will ensure the longest possible operation of the facility. Rockwool categories marked "C" are ideal for applications where access to the surface to be coated is planned. Special additives make this insulation an excellent base for a cement-based screed.
Mounting
From the name "Roof Butts" ("roof" from the English - roof) it becomes clear that this insulation was created for a specific purpose - to insulate the roof. The specific task in the manufacture of the material allowed the creators to fully realize all the requests of the buyers. According to consumer reviews, working with Rockwool insulation is simple and pleasant. Consider the main stages of working with insulation:
- preparation of the foundation;
- using the mortar, we mount the first level of the slabs;
- then we mount the second level of the slabs (to avoid air penetration between the slab layers, they are overlapped);
- additionally we fix the insulation with disc dowels;
- if necessary, we additionally mount a layer of waterproofing;
- we lay roofing material or any other covering, roofing material can be replaced with a screed.
Buildings with a flat roof covered with roofing felt and facade dowels are more and more common. Of course, such a layer will protect the house from some environmental influences. But, unfortunately, even a powerful concrete barrier does not completely preserve the house.By timely protecting the building with insulating materials from a trusted manufacturer, you will not only ensure the safety of your building, but also save a lot of money and time.
