In addition to a full-fledged heating system, houses need additional insulation so that the walls do not freeze through. The modern construction market offers a wide range of products to ensure a more comfortable stay in a country house. One of these is insulation. Rockwool has long been producing mineral wool products for a variety of purposes.

The most popular are the Caviti Butts series of basalt slabs. It possesses not only thermal, but also protective properties, since due to the additional layer the outer walls receive additional strength. In this article, we will talk about the pros and cons of the products, consider their technical characteristics and applications.

Peculiarities

"Caviti Butts" is a mineral wool thermoplate. Such materials have enhanced characteristics and include a large number of useful properties. The developers of the Rockwool company have created a product that is unique in its functions, which practically has no analogues, as it has become the "last word" in the construction industry. All Rockwool thermoplates are made of high density basalt.

This material is optimal for wall insulation, as it has a reduced level of temperature melting.

The production of mineral wool slabs is carried out by remelting basalt in furnaces with a high temperature, after which special resins are added to it, ensuring the screed of raw materials fibers and the formation of the final result - mineral wool. The resulting material has a large number of advantages, the main of which is lightness. The slabs are very lightweight, so they are easy to transport and install. The moisture resistance and vapor permeability of products are also very important advantages, especially for our latitudes.

Thanks to the rectangular shape, the slabs are easy to install. The biostability of thermal blocks prevents the appearance of mold and fungi, and also makes the material absolutely unsuitable for eating by rodents or insects. Basalt wool does not burn - this is a huge plus, thanks to which the Caviti Butts slabs are completely fireproof. In addition to the above advantages, the environmental friendliness of the material should also be indicated, which does not harm nature and human health.

Rockwool products have optimal technical characteristics, thanks to which it is difficult to find any minus, however, the slabs still have some features. One of the disadvantages of Caviti Butts is its low density. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the absence of a strong load, therefore the high density of the product could greatly affect the cost, which is not low anyway. This is another disadvantage of the product, which fully pays off in its quality.

Despite the moisture resistance, thermoplates still accumulate a small amount of moisture due to the passage of steam. Accumulation occurs rather slowly, but this feature should also be taken into account.

Specifications

The development of the technical properties of "Caviti Butts" took place taking into account modern technologies and for specific purposes. Mineral wool slabs have low thermal conductivity. In the Rockwool laboratories, the following experiment was carried out: a burner with an open flame was applied to the block, only the place of contact of the fire with the surface warmed up a little, while the rest remained at its standard temperature. The maximum indicator is 0.038 W / (m · K).

"Caviti Butts" is much lighter than its counterparts, but the low weight affects the density of the material. This indicator for thermoplates with a thickness of 50 mm is only 45 kg / m3. This indicator is not considered bad, but it is absolutely not suitable for using blocks in places other than walls or roofs.

You can not use "Caviti Butts" in structures with high load and stress - this prohibition is indicated in the instructions.

The indicator of moisture absorption of the insulation is a maximum of 2% of the total volume of the plate. The manufacturer produces sixteen types of insulation with a standard length and width of 100 * 60 centimeters, the only difference is in thickness, which varies from 5 to 20 centimeters. Depending on the thickness of the block, the package can contain from 2 to 10 panels. The level of vapor permeability of the material is 0.30 mg / (m · h · Pa), which is quite small, and is an excellent indicator for a similar product.

Application area

"Caviti Butts" are intended for thermal insulation of three-layer structures made of brick or concrete. In this case, the first layer will be the supporting material, which is stronger than others and takes on the main load. The second layer will be Rockwool mineral wool insulation, which is laid on the surface and fixed. The final layer will be the facing layer, which will cover the insulation. It can be made of facing bricks, gypsum boards or moisture resistant panels.

As a rule, this structure acts as the outer frame of the building. Such layers are not created for indoor use, as it is too expensive.

The outer wall with insulation "Caviti Butts" will have increased strength, insulation and reliable protection against weather conditions and other influences.

Mounting

The process of laying Caviti Butts mineral wool slabs is quite simple - even a beginner in the repair business can do it. Each package contains detailed instructions for the use of the product. However, if you are unsure of your own abilities, it is better to turn to professionals.

First of all, you should prepare the base for installation: the surface must be cleaned of dust and dirt, the existing cracks or irregularities must be filled in and the protrusions must be eliminated. After thorough cleaning, the priming process takes place to finally level the wall.

Next, a special adhesive solution is applied to the thermal panel, after which the plate is fixed on the wall. During the preparation of the glue, you should also carefully study the instructions and not be mistaken in the ratio of the mixture and water. It is recommended not to dissolve the entire package at once, since the mixture hardens quickly, it is better to prepare the solution in parts. Thus, you can not only save money, but also facilitate the styling process.

Some masters advise to additionally fix the blocks with dowels or self-tapping screws, but this can violate the integrity of the material and lower its technical properties.

After the glue hardens, the insulation is closed with a third facing layer. This completes the installation process.

Reviews

The popularity of Rockwool products has generated a large number of online reviews. Customers' opinions about the Caviti Butts thermoplates are positive. Users are satisfied with the high quality of the product and its technical characteristics. The small weight of the plates and their convenient rectangular shape are considered a big plus. These qualities provide not only easy transportation of the material, but also ease of installation.

There is also a low thermal conductivity of the material and high fire safety. They ensure the integrity of not only the entire structure, but also many of the values within it.The environmental friendliness and biostability of thermoplates are also considered important advantages, since thanks to these properties, the material does not harm the environment and the health of residents.

Among the shortcomings, buyers single out only the high price of the product, but it fully justifies the high-quality materials spent on production.
