All About Bump Film
Bubble, or as it is also correctly called "bubble wrap" (WFP), is most often used as a packaging material. It has small, evenly distributed spheres of air that take the load from the impact. As a result of force effects, the air bubble is compressed, and not damage to the packaged goods. Such a film is produced in various modifications, each of which has certain performance characteristics.
What it is?
A pimpled film is called flexible transparent material with air protrusions on the surface... It is supplied in rolls from 25 to 100 meters. Their width ranges from 0.3 to 1.6 m.
Manufacturers release several types of bubble wrap. It comes in 2 and 3 layers. The first material includes smooth and corrugated polyethylene with air pockets. It is a budget runway that is in high demand. In a three-layer film, bubbles are in the middle between 2 polyethylene layers (their thickness is 45-150 microns). The process of its production is more costly, due to which the cost of the finished product rises.
Bubble Film Specifications:
- wide temperature range of use - the material can withstand temperatures from -60 to +80 degrees without loss of performance;
- resistance to various negative environmental factors - the film is "not afraid" of exposure to sunlight, fungus or corrosion, it does not allow dust to pass through, and has moisture-repellent properties;
- transparency - the runway perfectly transmits light, which is important for plants when using this material for greenhouse equipment;
- good physical and mechanical qualities - the bubble film is distinguished by excellent strength, it is resistant to force effects, and helps to cushion shocks;
- safety - the runway does not emit toxic fumes both at normal temperatures and when heated, it is absolutely safe for human health, so it can be used for food packaging.
The main disadvantage of bubble wrap is non-ecological... The material takes a very long time to decompose in the soil - the whole process will take decades. When the runway burns, like any other polyethylene, toxic substances are formed that are harmful to human health and have a detrimental effect on the environment.
How do they do it?
The bubble wrap is produced in accordance with TU 2245-001-96117480-08. The main raw material for its production is high pressure polyethylene. It is supplied to production in white granules. Sometimes components are added to help prevent static build-up. The polyethylene used must comply with the requirements of GOST 16337-77.
Production stages:
- feeding PE pellets to the extruder tank;
- heating polyethylene to 280 degrees;
- feeding the molten mass in 2 streams - the first goes to the forming mechanism with a perforated surface, where, due to vacuum, the material is drawn to a certain depth, after which it quickly solidifies;
- covering the first bubble layer with a molten mass from 2 streams - in this process, the bubbles are hermetically sealed with flat polyethylene, and air remains inside them.
The finished material is wound on special bobbins. When forming a roll of the desired length, the film is cut.
When choosing a material, you need to take it into account. density - the higher the value, the stronger the packaging. And also the size of the bubbles is considered an important criterion. The smaller the air pockets, the more reliable the film will be.
Mods overview
Manufacturers offer a conventional runway with two or three layers, as well as various modifications of this material.... They differ in appearance, performance and technical characteristics.
Penobable
Combined material... It is made from 2 or 3-layer bubble wrap and polyethylene foam. In this case, the thickness of the runway is 4 mm, and the thickness of the polyethylene foam layer is 1-4 mm. Thanks to the additional substrate, the material acquires greater strength, resistance to mechanical abrasion, shock and other types of mechanical stress.
Penobable has excellent shock absorption properties. Due to this feature, it is used to transport expensive or particularly fragile goods. Its use is relevant when moving various cargo over long distances. One of the main advantages of the penobable is its reusability.
Craftball
It is a material that requires bubble wrap and kraft paper to make. It is produced by stretching the runway in the longitudinal direction and then strengthening it with kraft paper.
The result is a durable material that resists deformation even when exposed to a heavy load. Craftbubble is good at softening shocks and dampening vibrations. Due to its excellent shock-absorbing properties, it is in great demand when transporting fragile, expensive and antique items.
Kraftbable, due to the presence of a paper layer, absorbs excess moisture well. This feature allows the combined packaging material to be used in conditions of high air humidity (for example, in spring or autumn).
Alubable
This is a bubble film, on 1 or 2 sides of which aluminum foil or polypropylene metallized layer is applied. The material possesses:
- a small coefficient of thermal conductivity - depending on the thickness of the product, the indicators range from 0.007 to 0.011 W / (mK);
- excellent reflectivity.
Alyubable is durable - its service life often reaches half a century. Due to these features, the material is widely used in the construction industry - it is used to increase the thermal insulation of premises for various purposes.
Greenhouse film
This is a WFP containing various additives that improve the physical and chemical properties of the material and increase its durability when used outdoors. Greenhouse film:
- tear-resistant;
- resistant to various mechanical damage;
- promotes the transmission of ultraviolet radiation, which is useful for plants.
The material is lightweight, due to which it does not create additional stress on the greenhouse structure. Most modifications of bubble greenhouse films contain an additional component - antifog. It prevents the formation of water vapor.
Antistatic
This type of runway contains specialized antistatic additives... The film has good depreciation and heat insulating qualities. In addition, she promotes dissipation of free surface electric charges... Due to these features, the material is used as a protective shell for the transportation of expensive and "sensitive" electronics, flammable substances.
Manufacturers
Air bubble wrap is produced by many domestic companies specializing in the production of packaging materials. Russian products have the best price-quality ratio.
Popular manufacturers:
- Megapack (Khabarovsk);
- AiRPEK (Krasnoyarsk);
- LentaPack (Moscow);
- Argodostup (Moscow);
- M-Rask (Rostov-on-Don);
- "MrbLider" (Moscow);
- LLC "Nippon" (Krasnodar).
Air bubble film production is growing annually by about 15%. The main consumers of this packaging material are furniture companies, manufacturers of electronics and electrical engineering, glass and tableware companies.
Where is it applied?
Bubble wrap is widely used for packaging various products when they need to be transported. The material, due to its excellent shock-absorbing ability, ensures the preservation of the integrity of the load when it falls or hits.
Bubble wrap film is used for packaging:
- furniture;
- glass and crystal products;
- household appliances;
- various electronic gadgets;
- industrial equipment;
- lighting devices;
- antique goods;
- various valuable and fragile cargo.
The shipping bubble wrap is also used to pack and transport some food items.
The application of the runway does not end there. She also it is used as a protective shell for artificial reservoirs from debris and evaporation. It is often used to cover swimming pools in order to quickly heat the water.
This heat and moisture insulating material is often used in the construction industry and renovation activities. It is used to increase the thermal insulation of walls and floors. With its help, pipelines are insulated, the material is used in various refrigeration units.
Bubble wrap is one of the best "helpers" when moving. It is used to wrap dishes, crystal and other items that may break during transportation. The use of bubble wrap significantly reduces the risk of damage to fragile goods.
In addition, some people, regardless of age, like to pop the small air bubbles on the film with their fingers. In this case, the material acts as "anti-stress". Bursting of bubbles helps to distract from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and accumulated life problems.
Interesting and non-standard application bubble film. For example, with its help they make voluminous avant-garde paintings, use it for hand felting of wool, wrap hot baked goods in it to keep warm.
