Design features of a corner kitchen with a refrigerator
Small-sized kitchens are found not only in Khrushchev houses, but also in new buildings, where projects provide for their reduction in favor of residential premises. Moreover, most of the apartments have corner kitchens. To properly create a design in such spaces, it is necessary to rationally use the usable area.
Specific traits
For many homeowners, a small corner kitchen is a problem as it is difficult to equip. But if you correctly execute the layout, then even 5 sq. m will be able to turn into a comfortable and multifunctional area. The installation of an L-shaped kitchen unit will help to solve the problem of a shortage of square meters. It is more practical, as it allows you to conveniently place not only a stove, a sink, but also a work surface equipped with sufficient space for storing kitchen utensils.
With this layout, only two of the four walls are occupied and a free corner remains, which can serve as a dining area or a place for installing a refrigerator.
The main feature in the design of corner kitchens is the choice of colors. For the decoration of small spaces, it is recommended to use light blue, white and beige shades. They visually expand the space and fill it with an atmosphere of comfort. In this case, furniture should be chosen with a laminated surface or the color of the refrigerator. For kitchens over 7 sq. m an excellent choice would be a set of burgundy, milk and walnut shades, in which the refrigerator can be placed both in the corner diagonally and at the door (right or left).
Advantages and disadvantages
The advantages of corner kitchens include:
- the possibility of rational use of the area, including the corner;
- convenient access to all kitchen utensils, household appliances and furniture;
- ergonomics of usable space, since there is a free and open area in the center of the room;
- the ability to place new modules;
- excellent zoning of the room, in which a place is allocated for cooking, storing dishes and products, a dining area.
As for the shortcomings, there are few of them.
- A corner kitchen with a refrigerator is sometimes difficult to design. This is due to the presence of protrusions and irregularities on the walls. Therefore, before making a design, an ideal surface cladding is required, which entails additional costs for the purchase of building materials.
- Since the corner in small kitchens is most often made straight, then placing a sink or refrigerator in it can be inconvenient. Owners with a large complexion especially feel discomfort. To solve such problems, it is necessary to install not a one-piece, but a modular set, and place the sink against the wall, opening access to the drawers.
Layout options
When designing the design of corner kitchens, two walls are usually used, located perpendicular to each other. Much less often, a projected corner may be present in the layout, which forms a peninsula in space and divides the room into a dining and functional area. When equipping a corner kitchen, designers recommend adhering to the following rule: first, the product is taken out of the refrigerator, put on the table, washed, then spread and cooked on the stove. Therefore, when distributing the area, it is important to observe the principle of alternating the functional and working areas.
Usually, in an L-shaped kitchen, the headset is closed by a refrigerator, and it can also be installed at the door.
For kitchens with a large space, a layout with a bar counter is also well suited. It allows you to simultaneously zone the room and create an ergonomic "triangle" with a huge number of work surfaces. In this case, a U-shaped or F-shaped set with a washing machine and a built-in cabinet under the refrigerator is installed in the kitchen. In small spaces, the bar can be planned without a full dining area.
Style selection
The design of corner kitchens is presented in a variety of styles. Depending on the size of the room, different directions can be used, visually increasing the space or emphasizing the zones favorably. Several styles are most often used in modern interiors.
- Classic. Kitchens in this design are characterized by moderate luxury and natural wood furniture. The lines in the interior should be slightly smooth or straight. Brown and sandy colors are well suited for decorative surface finishes. It is best to hide equipment in closets. At the same time, the refrigerator can be placed both in the corner and at the door, the main thing is that it blends harmoniously with the headset, without standing out from the general background.
- High tech. Corner kitchens in this style are minimalist and laconic. The design completely excludes the presence of decor, the furniture should have a light gloss. Since high-tech provides a lot of metal, a steel-colored refrigerator will look good in the interior. It should be posted in a conspicuous place.
- Eclecticism. This direction is usually chosen by creative individuals who like to experiment with texture, colors and various materials. With the right use of decorative elements and color palette, a small kitchen can turn into a real masterpiece. Since this design is special, the refrigerator and other appliances in it can be originally decorated with a photo print or painting by installing a headset between the modules.
- Country. It is considered an excellent choice for spacious corner kitchens, which are recommended to be filled with natural wood, floral ornaments and ethnicity. Since the direction involves the use of warm colors, it is advisable to purchase household appliances not traditional white, but color. In order for the refrigerator to be harmoniously combined with decor items, it should be installed near the door, completing the headset line.
Beautiful examples
For small corner kitchens in Khrushchev, the area of which does not exceed 5 m2, designers recommend placing kitchen appliances and furniture along two adjacent walls. It will be not only beautiful, but also convenient. In this case, the refrigerator should be installed in the corner. Thanks to this layout, some free space will appear, and access to the sink, stove and cabinets will improve. It is best to choose a built-in stove; shallow drawers will conveniently fit under its working surface. Under the sink, you can place washing utensils, a trash can or a dishwasher, hanging shelves and cabinets complete the situation.
The refrigerator should not divide the working area and stand out from the general background of the headset; it should not be installed directly near the stove. To protect the appliance from overheating, the hob must be separated on both sides with small countertops. Plaster and washable wallpaper are good decorative finishes.
Choose a color palette in light shades.
For corner kitchens with an area of more than 8 m2, a layout in which the refrigerator is located near the door is well suited. It does not have to be hidden in a closet. Moreover, if the refrigerator is high, then it will be able to perform a dividing function in space, zoning the room. In this case, it is recommended to dismantle the door and install a decorative arch.
