How to feed cucumbers in July?
July is the month in which many vegetable crops enter the phase of the most active fruiting. During this period, they need appropriate feeding. Timely introduction of nutrient compositions will allow you to get a good harvest, protect the fruits from diseases and pests. Today we will focus on suitable dressings for cucumbers that can be used for fruiting.
Features of feeding
In the process of flowering and fruiting, vegetation will need a whole complex of various fertilizers. For full-fledged growth and development, it is recommended to fertilize cucumbers with solutions that contain nitrogen.
In order for plants to form healthy buds and ovaries, formulations with potassium, phosphorus and trace elements will be needed. This vegetable crop needs organic matter to which mineral nutritional supplements can be added.
You can feed cucumbers in the middle of the summer season both with various useful folk remedies and with ready-made chemical additives.
During this period of the year, gardeners often observe that the vegetable crop begins to deteriorate. This is signaled by several signs.
The lack of nutrients is also indicated by shedding and drying of the ovaries. In addition, irregularly shaped fruits often begin to appear. If they have a widened tip, then the plants do not have enough calcium.
In greenhouse conditions, chlorosis often appears on cucumber leaves. In this case, yellow spots will form on them. All this will indicate a lack of micronutrients.
Fertilizers used
Often, experienced gardeners use self-prepared dressings for cucumbers. Next, let's look at some of the most popular recipes for such homemade fertilizers.
Wood ash
To prepare this nutrient solution, you will need to take a liter container with sifted ash in powder form, dilute it all in a bucket of water and leave for a day. If you want to use the ready-made solution as a root top dressing, then you will need to take 0.5 liters per plant. Quite often, wood ash is used simply for dusting vegetation. This procedure will make it easy to get rid of aphids that have settled on cucumber leaf blades.
Mullein
Dry mullein will need to be poured with warm water at the rate of 1 to 4. The container with the contents is left in the sun for one week.
You cannot use the solution immediately, as it can simply burn the root parts of the cucumbers.
After this time, the resulting composition is again diluted with water. There are about 10 liters of substance with mullein per 1 square meter of land.
Mullein with boron
In this case, a solution consisting of one liter of water and granules of fertilizer with boron is added to a 10-liter mullein solution. Such a dressing for cucumbers will simultaneously include both organic and mineral components.
Bread yeast
This component can significantly increase the yield. In a bucket of water, one package of yeast should be diluted and left in a warm place for three days - during this time, the fermentation process will take place. One plant will have 0.5 liters of ready-made yeast composition.
Nettle
This plant contains a large amount of nitrogen, which is beneficial for cucumbers during fruiting. Nettles and other weeds are laid out in a container filled with warm liquid. During the fermentation process, ammonia and carbon dioxide will be released, which will further stimulate cucumbers for active growth and development. The fermentation process takes on average one week. Immediately before use, the prepared solution should be diluted with a small amount of water.
Bird droppings
Infusion with poultry droppings has the most balanced content of micro- and macroelements. It allows you to increase the level of yield. For such formulations, take one bucket of manure and 5 buckets of clean water. All this is mixed with each other. The content should be infused for several days. After that, the solution is again diluted with water, while the proportions of the finished substance should be 1: 10. Plants will need to be watered with such a liquid under the root with the calculation of 0.5 liters per one bush.
Onion peel
Such a component is most often used when there is a lag in the development of culture. A glass with onion skins is poured with boiling water. The liquid is sent to infuse for several days. After that, add only one tablespoon of this infusion to a 10-liter bucket of water - and pour over the cucumbers.
In addition to the above folk remedies, other ready-made compositions can be used to fertilize cucumbers. So, often nitroammophoska is used for this. The substance is a whole mineral universal complex. It contains nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus. This top dressing makes it possible to make up for the lack of nutrient useful components. Most often this complex is used in the second half of July.
Before use, nitroammofosk will need to be diluted in water. Only one tablespoon of the substance is needed for 10 liters of liquid. One plant will have at least 1 liter of solution.
Sometimes iron chelates are also used - an organic fertilizer of microelements. It is taken for cucumbers that grow and develop in greenhouses. Most often, the composition is used when fine interveinal chlorosis begins to appear on the leaf blades of plants.
There are a number of other mineral supplements that should be added to cucumbers in July. These include potassium nitrate (30 grams per 10 liters of water), urea.
It is recommended to add compost to the soil a couple of times in July before loosening. The effect of this fertilizer will be quite long lasting.
Do not forget that if cold weather is established for a long time with a temperature of only about +15 degrees, then the cucumbers should be fed only with foliar feeding. In cloudy weather, the foliar solution can be applied during the day both in greenhouses and in the open field.
Between the main feeding procedures, other fertilizers are applied, which are selected according to the state of the vegetation.
Introduction
It is worth remembering some important rules for applying dressings for cucumbers in July. In this case, a lot will depend on the conditions in which the vegetable crop grows.
In the greenhouse
Cucumbers, which grow in greenhouses and greenhouses, are especially demanding on fertilization in the middle of summer. Moreover, nutritious serums should be added every week.
In protected ground, the crop, as a rule, immediately reacts to the absence or deficiency of any important nutrient component.
For the formation of full-fledged fruits, the presence of carbon dioxide inside the structure is necessary, so the best option would be to place a container with slurry from manure. Indeed, in the process of its fermentation, a large amount of this substance will be released.
Most often, for cucumbers that are grown in greenhouse conditions, regular spraying with various nutrient solutions is used as a treatment.
In the open field
In this case, a lot will depend on the type of soil. So, when planting such a culture in black earth areas, it is worth completely abandoning mineral complexes that can only harm the plants. For other species, such compositions can be used.
During active fruiting of vegetation, top dressing should be applied every 10 days. In this case, it is recommended to alternate between mineral and organic substances. Cucumbers should be fertilized at the root. If top dressing gets on the leaf blades, severe burns can form on them.
Before fertilizing the plants, it is worth spraying the soil (half of the watering rate). The soil should be slightly damp. This will allow all the nutrients to be better absorbed.
All procedures are best done in the evening.
