Sugar feeding of cucumbers
In order to get a large harvest of tasty, crispy, healthy cucumbers at the end of the season, they must be fed, all the rules for caring for the plant must be followed.
If earlier, in most cases, special additives, both chemical and organic, were used for feeding, today everything has changed. Even experienced gardeners prefer natural and harmless substances. One of these is sugar.
Peculiarities
The question of what the feeding of cucumbers with sugar gives, arises in every person who has not previously heard about this method of saturation with the necessary minerals and trace elements. In fact, this substance is very useful for any plant, not just cucumbers.
Sugar has a number of characteristics and advantages over other types of fertilizers.
- When it gets into the ground, it breaks down into two components - fructose and glucose. Glucose is the substance that ensures the good flow of vital processes, namely respiration, growth and nutrition. A sufficient amount of it is the key to the correct development of the root system.
- Promotes active flowering and, as a result, a good harvest.
- Safe and effective.
- Has an affordable price. The amount of sugar needed to prepare the solution is small.
Also, do not forget that the syrup can be used simultaneously for pest control - it forms a sticky layer on the surface of the leaves that protects the plant. In addition, it will attract bees, which pollinate the flowers and contribute to a good harvest.
How to prepare fertilizer?
There is nothing complicated at all in preparing a sugar solution for watering or sprinkling cucumbers - absolutely all the ingredients can be found at home:
- hot water - 2 liters;
- sugar - 2 tablespoons;
- dry yeast - 1 tablespoon.
The ingredients are mixed and sent to a warm place for fermentation for a week. Next, the mixture must be mixed with water. The proportions are as follows: for 10 liters of water, you need to take 0.2 liters of the mixture.
Sugar mixture with yeast is a complex of vitamins, minerals and useful microelements that will saturate the cucumber with substances useful and necessary for active growth.
How to use?
Sugar syrup can be used to feed both seedlings in the open field or in a greenhouse, as well as already ripe bushes that bear fruit. There are several rules for sprinkling and watering cucumbers with sugar syrup.
- The most important thing is to properly prepare the solution. Of course, if you increase the amount of sugar a little, nothing terrible will happen.
- Seedlings with the prepared solution should be watered no more than once a month. This amount of glucose will be enough for young cucumber bushes.
- Sugar dressing can also be sprayed on both seedlings and adult bushes, which, for example, are in the growing season.
- Spraying of mature, fruiting cucumber bushes can be done more often, about 2-3 times a month - they need more vitamins and minerals.
Experts also recommend using an EM preparation (effective microorganisms) after fertilizing the bushes with sugar. And that's what it is for. A prerequisite for plant saturation with glucose is the presence of carbon dioxide in the soil. If there is not enough carbon dioxide in the soil, the sugar breakdown process will slow down and mold will form.It is the use of the EM-preparation additionally in the soil that facilitates the passage of all decay processes.
One of the biggest benefits of sugar solution fertilizing cucumbers is safety and harmlessness.
