Chalk feeding cucumbers
Cucumbers can be grown outdoors or in greenhouse conditions. In any case, they need chalk feeding. The substance makes the soil more suitable for growing vegetables. Many useful substances in the composition, especially calcium, improve the quantity and quality of the crop. At the same time, there are several options for preparing fertilizer, as well as more than one option for feeding.
Peculiarities
There are three types of chalk. Each has its own characteristics. It is important to understand how a particular type of chalk has a definite effect on the composition and acidity of the soil. Then it will be easy to feed.
The most common is natural chalk. It is already in the soil. It happens that there is a lot of chalk in the ground. The soil becomes unsuitable for the full growth and development of plants.
A lot of minerals and organics are necessarily introduced into the soil with a high content of natural chalk.
The next type is construction. It contains many additional chemical elements. They are necessary in the construction of houses, but they have a bad effect on the condition of the plants. It cannot be used to improve the soil.
The third type is chalk, which is created especially for plants. Lime is used in the manufacture. This type of chalk contains a large number of substances and components. Limestone lures are used to neutralize soil and greenhouse grounds.
Chalk has a high content of silicon and magnesium; it also contains sand and clay. The substance must be grinded before use. This is necessary so that the chalk is completely dissolved in the water and evenly distributed in the soil. After adding chalk to the soil, seeds or seedlings are planted. In this case, the substance will strengthen the immunity of the sprouts, protect them from diseases.
Chalk is also used on green plants. In this case, he is able to protect against aphids or helps to get rid of them. However, chalk attracts butterflies and other flying insects, which is important to consider. Many agronomists advise using chalk powder, pouring it directly into the hole before planting to protect it from bacteria.
Cucumber chalk has specific benefits. Many nitrogen fertilizers increase soil acidity. But cucumbers grow extremely poorly in such conditions. Chalk allows you to neutralize acidity, make the soil more suitable.
In greenhouses, using such a component, they get rid of gray rot. Chalk feeding cucumbers is very beneficial if done correctly. The substance makes the soil more suitable for growing this crop. At the same time, chalk when planting gives cucumbers protection from many pests. There are several recipes for making a simple and healthy complementary food.
How to prepare fertilizer?
The chalk solution looks like a whitewash, you need to use a lime look. To prepare for 10 liters of water, you should take 1 glass of chalk (about 200 ml). The resulting solution must be mixed well and left for 10-15 minutes. The mixture is then stirred again and applied immediately.
You can also use chalk to replenish the amount of calcium. Such a component brings many benefits to cucumbers, makes the harvest of higher quality. For this, chalk is mixed with vinegar. The result is a substance that agronomists call fast calcium.
The preparation method consists of several points.
- Take about 200 g of chalk. Pour into a 3-5 liter jar.
- Add some 9% vinegar. You can also use apple. Wait for the mixture to stop foaming.
- Then you should pour some vinegar again and wait for the reaction to pass. The liquid is poured in gradually until the hissing stops. This amount of chalk will take about 1 liter of vinegar.
As a result of a chemical reaction, calcium acetate is formed. The substance dissolves in water and is easily absorbed by the root system of cucumbers and other plants. The composition from the can must be diluted with clean water so that 10-12 liters of solution are obtained. It is important to add the vinegar in small portions to monitor the reaction. Excessive liquid will increase the acidity of the chalk solution.
You can use chalk to make a cucumber medicine. It is enough to mix this component with water and potassium permanganate so that pink sour cream is obtained. The mixture is used to treat gray rot. For the preparation of any chalky composition, it is recommended to grind the substance beforehand to the state of flour. This can be done by any available method, even with a simple rolling pin.
How can you feed?
Chalk fertilizers can be used when growing cucumbers in the open field or in a greenhouse. There are several ways to use the formulations. Each is designed to solve a specific problem.
- The dry crushed substance can be simply scattered throughout the garden in the fall. In this case, the chalk will have a lot of time to change the composition of the soil.
- The chalk solution can be used for watering. Moreover, it can be applied to empty soil before planting, or during the period when the cucumbers are already in the ground.
- The simplest chalk solution is applied directly under the plant. In this case, approximately 0.5 liters of liquid should be added under each cucumber. This will nourish the plant, reduce the acidity of the soil. It is recommended to water the cucumbers with chalk in the spring when they are young and require additional protection.
- A mixture with potassium permanganate allows you to get rid of gray rot, which often appears on cucumbers in greenhouses. First, using a bunch of grass or a leaf of the plant itself, plaque is removed. Later, the stems are coated with a creamy composition.
Do not apply chalk fertilizer and other top dressing at the same time. If the bush is small, then 2-3 days after using the solution, substances with nitrogen can be added. If the bush is large, then after chalk it is worth using phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. Parallel feeding will lead to the fact that cucumbers simply cannot absorb all the nutrients.
