Carrots are a popular crop in the middle lane. This vegetable is planted not only by professional gardeners, but also by amateur summer residents, hoping to get a big harvest by autumn. Only few of them know about additional feeding after the first shoots. This will be discussed in the article.

What do carrots need during this period?

Top dressing during the period of plant growth provides all the necessary useful nutrients for the proper course of the ripening process of future fruits. In addition, the sweetness of the carrots also depends on it.

If you do not apply additional fertilizers to the open ground when seedlings appear, then there may be unpleasant consequences. For example:

  • bizarre shapes;

  • susceptibility to various fungal diseases;

  • bitter or sour taste due to an excess or deficiency of certain toxic substances, respectively.

The benefits of the process are obvious. These are the main benefits of taking care of the crop.

  • The combination of the growth of the foliage and the ongoing photosynthesis gives the necessary effect of proper maturation.

  • Root crops in this case will be protected from negative environmental influences.

  • The fruits will have a hard core. They are dense and juicy. Thanks to these qualities of carrots, summer residents can extend their shelf life.

Harvest problems can only occur in case of an overdose. If you overdo it with the amount of fertilizer, there is a risk of getting the opposite effect.

It is recommended to start feeding in June. It was at this time that the first leaves of future fruits appear. Gardeners are advised to have a special fertilization calendar.

Recommended schedule:

  • when planting carrots;

  • when sprouts appear;

  • when thinning;

  • a couple of weeks before harvest.

This will make it easier to understand the growth stages of carrots.

What can you feed?

With the development of agriculture and the emergence of innovative technologies, a large selection of fertilizers is widespread on the market. However, many gardeners still use folk remedies.

Finished fertilizers

For feeding carrots, it is recommended to use universal complex fertilizers. They must necessarily contain nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus.

The first is needed for the growth of tops. With a shortage, the leaves of the carrots will turn yellow and crushed, and this, in turn, will lead to the death of the plant. The second is necessary for the sweet and delicate taste of the orange vegetable. The third helps the carrots get the desired shape and increase the shelf life.

Folk remedies

Many summer residents like to use improvised means, especially since it is economically profitable.

Only experienced gardeners still recommend combining them with complex fertilizers. It's more effective this way.

  • Potassium. The solution is prepared from 60 g of potash, 40 g of phosphorus and 50 g of nitrogen fertilizers. The mixture must be diluted in a bucket of water. Top dressing is done by root method 2 times a day.

  • Nitrogen (or ammonia). Simple nitrogen is introduced into the soil by analogy with the previous paragraph. But its substitute - ammonium nitrate (you can use ammonia instead) should be diluted in a bucket to a concentration sufficient for 1 square meter.

  • Phosphorus. The process requires a simple superphosphate. The solution is prepared at the rate of 30-40 g per 1 square meter of planting. The introduction is carried out by the root method 2 times a day.

  • Manganese and Barium. They are used to enhance the weight gain of the fruits of the future plant. The solution is prepared from an equal amount of starting materials.For 1 square meter, you need 1 tablespoon of ingredients per 10 liters of water.

  • Bor. Helps to strengthen the fruit. Without it, plant growth drops significantly. As a result, carrots will grow with an elongated thinned shape. The solution is prepared in 2 stages. First, 1 teaspoon of boric acid is diluted in warm water (1 liter at a temperature of + 40 ... 50 degrees). Then dilute the resulting mixture in 10 liters of boiled water. You need to add once a day. In addition, it can be used as a foliar dressing.

  • Ash. To use it, you must first loosen the soil. Then mix the ash and soil. And then thoroughly treat the summer cottage with water.

  • Bird droppings. It is usually used before planting. However, experienced summer residents are advised to feed them after the first shoots. The preparation of the required solution takes place in two stages. First, make an infusion of 1 part of the component and 10 parts of water. Leave for a day. And then dilute the resulting mixture in water 1 to 10. Watering is done between the beds 1 time per day.

  • Burdock and chamomile. Making a decoction of them is completely optional. It is enough to soak the leaves of the presented plants in a barrel and leave them to infuse for 5-6 hours. And then the broth is also diluted in water (ratio 1 to 10). Watering occurs once a day.

  • Nettle. It is the most versatile and effective ingredient and contains a large amount of nutrients. It is necessary to prepare the infusion in the same way as in the previous paragraph. Only here the leaves need to be crushed beforehand, and for fermentation to stand for 2 weeks.

  • Yeast. They can be used not only before planting and after the first shoots, but also for various emergence problems. To prepare the solution, you need to take 100 g of live yeast, 1 tablespoon of sugar. Mix all components in a bucket of water. Let it brew for 1.5 hours. Recommended number of waterings: 2 times a day.

  • Chicken droppings. The recipe for the preparation of the infusion is universal. First, you need to dilute the component in water in a ratio of 1 to 10. Close the lid tightly and leave in a cool room for a day. Dilute the mixture in water before feeding. The proportion is the same.

  • Weeds. Place the collected grass in a bucket, pour water over a third of the dish's volume. Expose to the sun. Stir the liquid periodically. Valerian can be added to eliminate the odor. Wait for the foam to stop forming (about 2-3 weeks). Dilute the finished fertilizer in water in a ratio of 1 to 10.

  • Iodine. You need to use 5% pharmaceutical iodine. Dilute 20 drops in 10 liters of water. It is possible to process carrots with such fertilizer only strictly between the beds.

However, do not forget to take into account the state of the soil, climate and environment, and adjust the introduction of components into the soil in accordance with them.

And at the same time follow all the feeding technique.

Top dressing rules

After choosing the funds, you need to enter them correctly.

Like any other process, feeding has basic rules that must be followed.

  • Before the first top dressing, the soil should be watered thoroughly. It should be carried out as soon as the seeds germinate. The tops should harden. But the second should be done in 2-3 weeks.

  • Liquid top dressing should not be applied to dry soil. That is why the processes of applying such fertilizers are best carried out either after manual irrigation or after rain. Moreover, in this way you can get rid of pests.

  • Nitrogen fertilizers must be completed by the second half of the growing season of carrot growth.

  • A large amount of organic matter can lead to bad consequences. That is why it is necessary to correctly calculate the concentration of such fertilizers. In this case, it is necessary to cultivate the soil for them only at a certain time, corresponding to the schedule of the planting scheme. In addition, organic fertilizers should not be applied to the soil in the fall.

  • You cannot use chlorine and its generators as fertilizers, otherwise you can get ugly root crops.

  • If you plant carrots immediately after deoxidizing the soil, then the fruits will have several tails.

  • The recommended number of feedings and feedings for carrots in one season is 2-4.

  • True, amateur summer residents sometimes do not follow some of the rules for feeding after carrot shoots. And at the same time they ask themselves a completely logical question of correcting the current state of affairs.

  • Experienced summer residents assure that if you notice an excess of organic matter in the open field in time, you will be able to keep the crop in a stable growth process. It is sufficient to manually remove the excess fertilizer. And in order for the carrots to sprout quickly, add more soil.

  • But you cannot transplant the plant, otherwise you can completely ruin the entire crop.

Gardener Tips

Often, beginner summer residents have the same problem: the bulk of the crops sprouted 2 weeks after planting. In general, different varieties of carrots should give first shoots on an individual schedule in the period from 7 to 30 days. Only the above period indicates a number of negative reasons. Among them:

  • deep landing;

  • poor quality seeds;

  • improper irrigation system;

  • lack of nutrients in the soil.

To improve seed germination, experienced gardeners advise using the following scheme: keep the seeds in a boric acid solution for at least 3 days. Only then carry out the landing.

Thus, additional feeding of carrots helps to improve the quality and quantity of the crop. It is possible to introduce into the soil not only complex organic and mineral remedies, but also folk remedies. You just need to be careful, because in case of an overdose, the effect will be the opposite.
