In the process of growing cucumbers, different means and preparations are used for protecting, feeding plants. One such example is potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate, potassium salt of permanganate, or simply "potassium permanganate"). It is possible and necessary to water cucumbers with a solution of potassium permanganate. It is an inexpensive effective preparation that helps in the cultivation of cucumbers. With its help, you can fight diseases, disinfect seed material, and feed the crop.

Why do you need it?

Potassium permanganate is the potassium salt of manganese acid. It contains potassium, manganese and oxygen. In dry form, it is a black-violet crystals with a steel sheen, perfectly soluble in water and other organic solvents.

Aqueous solutions of potassium permanganate are a powerful oxidizing agent. When interacting with organic compounds, free oxygen is released. Therefore, when the solution hits the surface, all light particles are removed:

  • dust;
  • dirt;
  • microorganisms and fungal spores;
  • dead tissue.

This beneficial property has made it possible to extensively use potassium permanganate in medicine and at home.

Disinfection

In crop production, disinfection is required in the following cases:

  • when processing seed;
  • to remove pathogenic microorganisms and spores that provoke fungal diseases, hibernating insect pests from soil mixtures;
  • for cleaning internal elements of greenhouses from contamination, concentration of microbes on wooden and steel structures;
  • for processing tools (secateurs, scissors, knives) from pathogenic agents.

Apply a weak pink solution. For various tasks, formulations of various concentrations are prepared. Dissolve in a bucket of water:

  • 3 g for soaking the seed;
  • 3-5 g for disinfection of greenhouses, soil and watering holes during planting.

The disinfection process is an integral preventive measure in the cultivation of any agricultural crops, not just cucumbers. By carrying out such ingenuous actions, many problems during the season can be prevented.

Combating plant diseases and insect pests

Potassium permanganate contributes to the fight against the following diseases of cucumbers:

  • downy mildew (downy mildew);
  • anthracnose;
  • root rot;
  • cladosporiosis.

Spraying bushes in the initial phase of the disease significantly slows down or stops the subsequent spread of spores, which leads to healing of the plants.

For foliar processing of cucumbers in open beds, a more concentrated composition is made, since evaporation is stronger right on the street than in a greenhouse. In 10 liters of water, 2-3 g of crystals are diluted (1 g is enough for a greenhouse). The bushes are processed at the rate of 0.5 liters per plant. Spray the leaves from 2 sides.

This remedy is practiced no more than 5 times a summer. When diseases are treated, fungicides are used between spraying cucumbers with potassium permanganate.

Before processing cucumbers with potassium permanganate, unnecessary shoots and leaves are removed, tied to trellises, and the area is weeded. After processing under the root, loosening is done.

After treatment with potassium permanganate, pests of cucumbers die as a result of 3 methods of exposure:

  • mechanical removal of insects from leaves and shoots;
  • chemical burn of external tissues;
  • poisoning when eating leaves and sucking its juices.

For this reason, the processing of cucumber leaves should be carried out at the beginning of fruiting and throughout the entire period of development. Through the selection of the concentration of the composition, one or another method of exposure is aggravated.

Potassium permanganate is effective outdoors when fighting with black and green varieties of aphids, in the greenhouse - with whitefly, spider mites, aphids... Often insects become carriers of diseases, therefore, treatment with manganese is doubly effective.

Potassium permanganate is used for feeding cucumbers and other vegetable crops with a lack of manganese and potassium. Irrigation of the land around the bushes and processing of sheets are effective.

To combat aphids, the following composition is practiced:

  • 10 liters of water;
  • 3 g of potassium permanganate;
  • 30 g of potassium salt;
  • 1 liter of infused verbascum (mullein).

The resulting composition is moistened with cucumber leaves, approximately 100 ml of the substance is used per plant. They fight other insects in the same way.

Seed treatment and plant fertilization

For prophylaxis, 0.5 g of potassium permanganate is dissolved in 1 liter of pre-prepared settled water. The seeds are soaked for 20-30 minutes. This time is enough to destroy pathogens and suppress the activity of fungal spores.

Since potassium permanganate is an excellent means for feeding plants, its solution is used to process cucumbers in order to compensate for the lack of potassium and manganese.

Fertilization with potassium permanganate of cucumbers has a number of advantages:

  • improving the taste, shape, juiciness of the vegetable;
  • ripening is accelerated;
  • the metabolic process is activated;
  • the number of ovaries increases.

Fertilizer can be combined with disease prevention. For this purpose, brilliant green, orthoboric acid or hydrogen peroxide are added to a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Potassium permanganate is taken in small volumes. Concentrated formulations are capable of burning vegetation.

To feed the plant, take 3 g of potassium permanganate and dissolve in a bucket (10 l) of water. Each bush is irrigated around the root at a distance of 6-7 cm from the stem. After applying top dressing (when the soil dries up), the earth is loosened. For each 1m2, approximately 5 liters of the prepared solution are used. Perform no more than 5 dressings with a break of 20 days.

How to breed correctly?

Potassium salt of manganese acid should be used in small doses, a small amount of potassium permanganate is dissolved in water. It is recommended to do combined feeding, mix mineral and organic fertilizers.

In this embodiment, a few drops of potassium salt of manganese acid are added to chicken droppings or diluted mullein.

How to apply?

A solution of potassium permanganate is very useful for cucumbers both in the greenhouse and in the open field. Practicing such a remedy is simple due to its low cost and availability, but it must be done very carefully. If you do not follow the instructions and prepare a highly concentrated solution, then you can easily burn the plant, and not make it stronger.

In the greenhouse

When plants are grown in a greenhouse, the walls outside and the soil around the greenhouse should be treated several times per season with a 0.5% solution of potassium permanganate.

In addition, plants are treated against pests and the occurrence of fungal diseases.

In the open field

The very first phase of application of potassium salt of manganese acid is the soaking of seeds on the eve of planting. 3 g per 10 liters of water. The seed is lowered for 20 minutes, subsequently it must be removed and dried. This event will help the future plant, make it more robust and destroy all microorganisms that can provoke the disease.

  • Irrigation of the soil. Take 3-5 g of potassium permanganate per 10 liters of water. Water the soil just before planting the seeds. Protects against disease.
  • Irrigation of holes. The same solution is used to irrigate the hole for planting seedlings.
  • Spraying cucumbers. A solution of 3 g of potassium salt of manganese acid and 10 liters of water. It is necessary to spray 3 times every 2-3 days.

It must be remembered that feeding or processing the plant in only one way will not give an effect. The most important thing is to combine the methods correctly. And then the desired result will appear quickly.

Precautionary measures

Potassium permanganate is used in medicine, but you need to work with it carefully, otherwise you can get poisoned. We are talking about cases of safety violations when using a substance.

In order to prevent such moments, it is necessary to protect the open parts of the skin of the hands with gloves, and the respiratory tract with a special mask. Experts also advise to wear glasses so that the potassium salt of manganese acid does not get into the eyes.

It is also necessary to take care of the safety of children, pets, in this regard, it is required to store the product in a place inaccessible to them.

Processing cucumbers with potassium permanganate is an effective way to combat diseases and pests. The main thing is to accurately observe the ratio of proportions and safety measures. Concentrated formulations can harm the plant. Dosed irrigation is harmless, but frequent feeding leads to the accumulation of the substance in the plant. Even if you only sprinkle the bushes, it will surely fall into the ground, and then into the fruits. Everything should be within certain boundaries.
