How to use the bidet correctly?

Compliance with hygiene rules is a guarantee of health. Everyone knows this and, apparently, that is why the bidet is gaining more and more popularity in our country. If earlier its installation caused only misunderstanding and was considered an excess, today more and more people appreciate the opportunity to wash after using the toilet.

What it is?

A bidet is a plumbing device similar in appearance to a toilet, but equipped with nozzles, designed to carry out hygienic procedures after using the toilet. Water is supplied from the nozzles under pressure. Washing the genitals and anus can reduce the likelihood of inflammatory diseases of the urogenital canal, pelvic organs.

Washing is recommended for hemorrhoids, as the water jets produce a gentle massage effect. In addition, the use of paper for this disease is not recommended, as it brings pain and discomfort. Washing can solve this problem.

The first devices with a similar purpose are mentioned in the 17th century. The first bidets were baths filled with water, which were used in France.

What is it for?

As already mentioned, the main purpose of the bidet is to wash the genitals after using the toilet. The device simplifies the washing procedure and helps to maintain personal hygiene. It is important that for people with disabilities, as well as for elderly users, it is much easier and more convenient to use a bidet, rather than toilet paper. As a prevention of the formation of hemorrhoids nodes, the use of a bidet is also shown.

The bidet is also convenient for washing babies. In the presence of a shower head, the device is used for cleaning the bathroom, filling buckets with water, cleaning pet trays. If necessary, you can rinse your feet or hands in the bidet, however, provided that the bidet bowl is thoroughly and regularly disinfected.

The main advantage of the bidet is its versatility, practicality, ease of use and installation. Among the shortcomings, one can note the need to allocate a place in the bathroom for the device. However, this disadvantage can be easily leveled by using bidets combined with a toilet. The high cost of automatic devices is justified by the comfort and benefits that the operation of the unit brings.

Types and models

There are free-standing bidets and toilet-mounted devices. Depending on the installation method, floor and suspended structures are distinguished. A feature of the latter is the presence of an installation, a frame in the wall, to which the bidet and its constructive bowls are attached. Only the bidet bowl and the control panel or shower head are visible to the user. Floor structures represent a familiar bowl on a "leg". Despite the fact that the former look attractive and visually take up less space, floor options are more popular. This is due to their lower cost and ease of installation.

Depending on the control features, there are several types of bidets.

  • Mechanical or manual. The setting of the performance indicators is primarily the water temperature is adjusted manually.
  • Automaticcontrolled by the control panel or remote control. As a rule, such devices are equipped with a thermostat that ensures a constant temperature and water pressure in accordance with the parameters set by the users.

Separately, it should be said about models designed for small-sized products.All of them imply the rejection of a separate bidet bowl due to the limited free space, so the function of the bidet, one way or another, is transferred to the toilet.

The following models are distinguished:

  • a toilet with a built-in bidet - the rim of the toilet is equipped with nozzles;
  • bidet cover - water jets are supplied from the nozzles located in the seat cover. Such a cover is installed on a regular toilet;
  • an ordinary toilet equipped with a hygienic shower with a mixer.

The supplied water jet can have several modes, among the most popular are the following:

  • ordinary;
  • intense;
  • pulsating;
  • soft;
  • oxygenated.

The number of nozzles may vary from device to device. Their number is one of the factors determining the cost of the product.

If we talk about the material of manufacture, then the most popular are such bidet models as:

  • porcelain;
  • faience.

Both options are considered worthy, however, porcelain is of slightly higher quality and a longer service life (up to 50 years). It has a smoother, non-porous texture that repels dirt. Naturally, the porcelain model costs more. The period of operation of the earthenware analogue is up to 30-40 years.

Depending on the size of the device, there are three types.

  • The average or standard design has a width of 460 mm, it is fair to say that it is unchanged in most models, the length of the product is 496 mm and the length of the bowl is 271 mm.
  • Elongated. The bidet is 528 mm long and the bowl is 304 mm long.
  • Shortened. The length of the bowl is 470 mm and the width of the bowl is 245 mm.

Freestanding bidets also differ in the type of release.

Like toilets, they have the following types of release:

  • horizontal;
  • oblique;
  • vertical.

Finally, devices can be equipped with options such as:

  • autonomous water heating;
  • hydromassage;
  • warm air blower or hair dryer function;
  • thermostat;
  • backlight;
  • heated seat.

Instructions for use

The bidet should be used after each visit to the toilet. There are no special requirements for use, the main thing is that it is convenient. Most users prefer to sit facing the device, however this depends on the type of model.

Modern models have several modes of operation, including in accordance with the gender of the user. This allows women and men to wash quickly and comfortably. Some people use toilet paper before washing, while others use a bidet right away. How correctly is up to the user to decide. The only thing that doctors recommend is the use of soap.

Before using the device, check the temperature and water pressure. This will avoid scalding and splashing water. Place towels near the device. From a hygienic safety point of view, these should be disposable towels or napkins. After use, the napkins must not be thrown away in the bidet. Otherwise, clogging of the drain hole cannot be avoided. It is worth putting a special urn next to the bidet. Many models are equipped with a drying and warm air function, which eliminates the need for towels.

Important! Using a bidet is not a substitute for showering or bathing. They are often housed in hospitals and maternity wards where there is no full shower, allowing personal hygiene to be maintained.

The bidet is especially necessary for the care of the female genital organs. Regular washing is the best prevention of genital diseases, allows you to keep them clean during menstruation, after sexual intercourse. As practice shows, it is more comfortable for a woman to sit facing the bidet. Men, on the other hand, usually have their backs to the bidet. After each use, it is advisable to rinse the bowl using a disinfectant.

How to make a toilet bowl?

You can turn a regular toilet into a bidet by equipping it with a hygienic shower or by purchasing a bidet seat. Such options are usually relevant for small-sized rooms, where there is simply no room for installing a separate bowl. Another option in this case is to install a toilet with a bidet function. However, it requires dismantling the previous device and installing a new one, which can be inconvenient.

The simplest and most affordable option is a hygienic shower. It is a shower head and mixer that can be installed on the wall next to or behind the toilet. The faucet is connected to a sink or water supply system. The shower head is equipped with a button that can be pressed to turn on the water.

The bidet lid is a seat that fits over the toilet and also allows you to wash yourself right after the toilet. It has built-in nozzles that can be built-in (fixed) or retractable. The latter, according to user reviews, are more convenient to use. The nozzles are equipped with an automatic disinfection system after use, which guarantees the hygiene and safety of the device.

Most of the covers are smart and have many additional useful features. Among them, it is worth highlighting the heated seat and its illumination, a self-cleaning system, an antibacterial coating, and a function of blowing warm air. The microlift system ensures smooth lowering of the lid after use. Models with an infrared motion sensor are comfortable. Reacting to the appearance of the user, the device automatically turns on the nozzles after a specified period of time, and after use, when the user disappears from the field of action of the sensors, the nozzles and the bowl are disinfected, after which the lid is gradually lowered.

The devices are made of durable plastic, which is reliable. It is important that the lid fits snugly against the toilet and does not deform during use. This will lead to uneven distribution of the load, and then to the breakage of the cover. Most of the covers are equipped with a control panel, some models also have a remote control. The latter is more practical and functional in use for people of curvaceous build or users with disabilities.

A feature of combined devices and models equipped with a hygienic shower is the ability to use them for their intended purpose, as well as immediately use them as a bidet.

Examples of location in a home bathroom

When placing a bidet, it is logical that it should be installed near the toilet. If we are talking about an automatic device, then it is necessary to mount an outlet nearby, and it is much safer if it is outside the bathroom. It is important that a distance of 25–30 cm is maintained between the toilet bowl and the bidet, as well as between the bidet and the walls of the room or furniture. In front of the bidet, as well as in front of the toilet bowl, it is important to leave a free space of 60–70 cm to the door or opposite wall.

It is not recommended to bring the bidet and toilet too close together, as it will be inconvenient to wash. If the dimensions of the bathroom do not allow maintaining the recommended distance between the devices, it is more logical to choose either the “two-in-one” model or purchase a more compact toilet and bidet. On the side of the bidet, on the same wall as the appliance, a towel holder is fitted. It is usually convenient to hold toilet paper near the toilet on the next wall. Holders for it, as well as for a towel, should be mounted at arm's length from plumbing equipment (at a height of 70–90 cm from the floor).

Since the devices are similar and are located close to each other, it is important that they have a similar design, bowl size, shades. Hanging toilet and bidet located on the far wall of the bathroom look stylish and modern.

If we are talking about combined bathrooms, then when designing them, two zones are usually distinguished: sanitary and hygienic. The first includes a toilet and bidet, the second - a bath or shower and sink. For greater convenience, you can install a partition between them. By the way, a bidet or bidet toilet can be mounted directly to this partition by choosing a suitable installation.

In small bathrooms, if there is a shower cabin, it is more convenient to place it along one of the long sides of the room, and along the other, other plumbing fittings look organic, including a toilet bowl and a bidet.

        As for the color, snow-white plumbing is recommended for small-sized rooms, the use of which will visually enlarge the room. You can opt for beige, pastel shades. Brighter colors as well as darker blacks should be used with caution and dosage. All plumbing should be done in the same color scheme. When buying colored plumbing, you should be prepared for more thorough and frequent cleaning, since traces of dried drops are especially noticeable on a colored surface.

        If the toilet has an original design, it is important that the bidet also follows this shape. In this regard, it is much more convenient to purchase both devices at once.
