Briquettes are a great alternative to wood. The compressed varieties can be used both for heating and for a picnic, preparing kebabs or grilled vegetables. Birch briquettes are very popular today. Let's talk about them in more detail.

Peculiarities

Fuel birch briquettes are small blocks of the same shape. There are only three of them in Russia.

  • RUF. These are small products that look like bricks. They have the lowest density in comparison with other forms.
  • Pini-Kay. Elongated rectangular models with a hole in the middle. They have the highest density.
  • Nestro. Cylindrical solutions with bore and medium density.

The main raw material for birch briquettes is waste from the woodworking industry. They can be made from wood chips or birch dust. The second option is more popular because it is much easier to compress the dust.

In addition, such options have the highest density and contain much less moisture.

Any birch briquettes have many advantages.

  • Low humidity and high density. If we compare briquettes with firewood, then the advantages are obvious: they flare up much faster, give more heat, and burn for a long time. Fewer of them are required for the firebox, which means that it will also turn out to be great to save money.
  • Same shape. Because all the samples in the package have the same shape and size, they are very easy to store. Such fuel can be compactly placed indoors.
  • Versatility. It is possible to heat with birch briquettes both at home and in saunas. They are great for boilers, stoves, fireplaces, barbecues.
  • Comfort of use. Birch products do not emit fumes and soot, dust and debris do not fly from them when burning.
  • Long shelf life. Briquettes can be purchased in advance for the winter. Different manufacturers have different shelf life: the minimum is a year, the maximum is 5 years.
  • Environmental friendliness. Waste is used to create fuel, which is very beneficial for the environment. If you are concerned about the problem of deforestation and are trying to avoid unnecessary use of wood, then briquettes are your option. In addition, harmful substances and glue are not used in their creation. Thanks to this, the products are absolutely safe for health.

There are only two drawbacks to briquettes: they are rather high prices and fear of high humidity. It is important to mention one more nuance. Eurodrova (the second name for briquettes) is produced today by many companies, but not everyone should be trusted. Before buying, it is very important to read reviews and choose a trusted manufacturer, since many may add old low quality waste. This makes the product cheaper, but reduces its performance.

If we compare birch briquettes with other options, then the following can be noted:

  • in terms of the residual amount of ash, only tyrsa loses;
  • they have almost the best indicators in terms of moisture: only the husk of the seeds will be drier;
  • calorie content is second only to seeds;
  • the density is lower than that of other materials.

It is rather difficult to say which wood briquettes are better from. For example, oak trees burn longer, but conifers leave behind an easily cleaned soot. Birch options are more similar in properties to conifers, but instead of soot they can pollute the chimney with tar.

You can buy euro wood from birch in different lots. For example, a standard package of RUF briquettes contains 10 kg of bricks. This will be enough for summer picnics. But for heating a house or a bath, it is better to take packages in bulk.

How to use?

It is not difficult to light up eurowood for the firebox. This is done in the same way as with regular firewood. The easiest way is to buy special means for ignition. They can usually be ordered from the briquette maker, but they are also sold in regular stores. Such products are liquid and gel-like. The briquettes are placed in an oven or grill, then covered with a product. After a couple of minutes, they can be set on fire. If there are no means for ignition at hand, then you can use what is in the house. For example, it can be old newspapers, cardboard, splinters, dry sticks, wood chips. First, this material is ignited, and then briquettes are placed. On top, you can place an additional layer of paper or your chosen product.

It is also worth considering a few more interesting tips:

  • if the bars are laid tightly, they will smolder for a long time (this option is acceptable if you need to keep the heat longer, for example, overnight);
  • Euro wood, laid with a loose layer, will flare up faster, but burn out in a few hours (ideal solution for a bath, sauna);
  • it is not recommended to fill the firewood compartment to capacity, because this way the heat transfer will immediately be maximum, which is not always required;
  • the ash left over after the bars burned out can be used as plant nutrition, since it is absolutely environmentally friendly.

How to store?

In order for briquettes to fully perform their functions, they must be properly stored. This should be done indoors. It is not recommended to place it outdoors, as with ordinary wood-burning masonry, as weather conditions can spoil the material. This type of fuel is very afraid of high humidity. Therefore, the room where it will be stored must be protected from water ingress. The roof may need to be inspected and repaired if it leaks during rainfall. A briquette exposed to water immediately swells and becomes deformed. He will not be able to flare up, and he will only have to be thrown away.

If there is no room and the fuel has to be stored outside, then the bars must be covered with polyethylene film. Despite the fact that they are already packed, an additional layer of film will not allow sediment to penetrate inside. In addition, the bars should not be placed in the open air, but somewhere under a canopy. In summer and spring, it is imperative to ventilate the products, since due to temperature changes, condensation will appear under the film, which is harmful to wood. In winter, the bars must be protected from snow.

Another important point is that the packaged products should not come into contact with the ground. They should be placed on pallets, roofing felt, any materials that do not leach and rot.
