An unusual variety of Marshmallow in chocolate is able to decorate the tomato collection of any summer resident. It is considered a salad, the best fresh, unsuitable for transportation or commercial cultivation. He practically does not get sick, he feels best under a film cover.
Breeding history
The variety was registered in the State Register in 2015. The selection was carried out by the specialists of Agrofirma Poisk LLC.
Description of the variety
A tall variety, not a standard type. The bush reaches a height of 160-170 cm. Shoots are straight, without abundant branching, covered with green leaves. Several fruit clusters are formed on each stem. The inflorescence gives 5-7 ovaries.
The main qualities of the fruit
The rounded fruits of this variety of tomatoes reach a mass of 130 g. The pulp is greenish. The skin is dense, elastic, but unsuitable for long-term storage. In unripe tomatoes, it is green, with darkening at the base, mature tomatoes are brown with contrasting stripes.
Taste characteristics
The variety is distinguished by an exceptionally sweet taste without sourness. The pulp is juicy, pleasant, there is no astringency in it.
Ripening and fruiting
The variety is mid-season, you can harvest from July 20 to August 20. From the moment of germination to full maturity of the fruit, it takes 105-110 days.
Yield
Chocolate covered marshmallow is a high-yielding tomato. With proper agricultural technology, you can collect up to 5.7 kg / sq. m.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Seeds are sown in advance, at the beginning of March, about 60 days before planting in a permanent place. Plants can be transferred to open ground in mid-May. In the greenhouse, it is also sown at the end of spring, when the soil warms up enough.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Plants are placed on the beds according to the scheme 40x60 cm, in rows. There should be no more than 3 plants per 1 m2, since the variety is indeterminate.
Growing and caring
The variety is suitable for planting in open ground or under a film, in greenhouses. Plants need to be formed into 2 stems, getting the second from the lowest stepchild. Tall shoots need a garter throughout the growing period, starting from 2 weeks after transfer to a greenhouse or soil. Pinching is mandatory. All leaves under the tied brush break off, pinching to stop growth is performed over 5 pairs of leaves.
Plants are very thermophilic, they need a lot of sunlight. For greenhouse planting inside the shelter, it is recommended to maintain the humidity in the range of 50-60%. Insufficient illumination, a small amount of moisture lead to the fact that hard white veins appear inside the fruit chambers. This noticeably spoils the taste characteristics of the fruit.
For sowing seeds, nutrient substrates are selected based on garden soil, river sand and peat. The necessary fertilizers are wood ash, superphosphate. They are also used in the preparation of the soil in greenhouses and in the beds. The self-collected seed is pre-disinfected by soaking in a manganese solution. It is best to fill the seeds with grooves, to a depth of no more than 20 mm, slightly covering them with a nutritious substrate and moistening them from a spray bottle.
Seedling picking is performed after the seedlings produce at least 2 permanent leaves. On the 50th day from the moment of germination, the plants begin to harden, gradually preparing for transplantation. The duration of the stay of the bushes on the street is gradually increasing.
After transplanting into open ground, chocolate-covered Marshmallow tomatoes only need regular watering, loosening and feeding. Fertilizers are applied three times during the season, alternating nitrogen, complex and potassium-phosphorus compositions. Watering is carried out every 3 days with exceptionally warm water. After moistening, the soil is loosened, then necessarily weeded.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Tomato Marshmallow in chocolate is resistant to TMV damage, as well as other viral infections. Bushes are vulnerable only to late blight. From it, plants are treated for preventive purposes with copper-based chemicals. Among the pests, the whitefly is the most dangerous. Its larvae can be fought by regularly ventilating the greenhouses, as well as by spraying with insecticides in the period before the formation of ovaries, immediately after transplanting into the ground.
Medvedka is rarely interested in this variety of tomatoes. But for the purpose of prophylaxis, when planting, you can lay granular preparations against it in the soil. And also in the evening in greenhouses, you can use complex fumigation of tomatoes using insecticidal spirals.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The variety is sensitive to the influence of external factors. Plants need shelter from strong winds and cold weather. It is also important to take care of sufficient soil moisture. This variety is also very sensitive to drought.
Review overview
Summer residents from many regions of the country managed to express their opinions about tomatoes Marshmallow in chocolate. Despite the fact that the variety is quite young, it is successfully planted in the Moscow region and in the Urals, and in the Krasnodar Territory it is planted directly in open ground. A rather late flowering is noted against the background of other mid-season tomatoes, but the brushes and ovaries are formed on the bushes together. Gardeners especially admire the original color of the fruits, as well as their sweetness, especially pleasantly felt when fresh.
Tomato Marshmallow in chocolate is praised for its high seed germination. The undemandingness of the composition of the soil is also referred to the positive aspects. Many summer residents have experience of obtaining a rich harvest even on rather sparsely fertilized soils, but light and loose substrates give the best results. Experienced vegetable growers recommend not waiting for the tomatoes to color evenly. Green stripes coming from the stalk are the norm for Marshmallow in chocolate, although in the sun it acquires an almost solid maroon skin tone.
Disadvantages of this tomato variety are also present. Not all summer residents are happy with his tendency to cracking fruits on the branches, and it is difficult to transport ripe tomatoes over long distances. The skin instantly crumples and bursts. Negative opinions can also relate to the taste of the fruit. Some feel unpleasant shades in it, in addition, the abundant formation of stepchildren significantly increases the labor intensity of growing a vegetable crop.
