Tomato The Japanese orange truffle has not only excellent taste, but also has an interesting fruit shape that will surprise even the most experienced gardeners.
Breeding history
To date, there is no exact data on the date of creation of the variety. There is only information that SibNIIRS became the authors of the culture. It is stated that the culture is determinant, suitable for growing in open and closed ground.
Little is known about the growing regions from the producers. But due to the fact that the culture has been grown by gardeners from different parts of Russia for more than 20 years, we can safely say that the variety is suitable for most territories.
It is only noted that in the southern regions there is no need for additional shelter for bushes, and in central Russia, the culture can be sheltered during cold snaps. In the north, it is best to grow tomatoes in heated greenhouses using UV lamps.
Description of the variety
Tomato Japanese orange truffle belongs to tall crops. On average, the height of the bush is 90-170 cm. The crown is compact, medium-leafy. Leaves are standard size, oblong, deep green in color.
The inflorescence is simple, formed at the level of 5 leaves, the next one after one. 5-6 fruits are formed in one bunch.
The main qualities of the fruit
The shape of the fruit is very interesting: to some it resembles a pear, and to others a truffle mushroom. The stalk has a slight ribbing, reaching the middle of the vegetable. Fruit weight 100-150 g. There are also more weighty tomatoes weighing up to 200 g.
The skin is orange, dense. The pulp is fleshy, sugary, with a small amount of juice. Inside, in addition to 3-4 seed chambers, dry matter is 7-8%.
The variety is universal, therefore it is suitable for canning and pickling, as well as for fresh consumption and making pickles or jams. For juices and tomato pastes, berries are not so often used due to the fact that they do not have enough liquid.
Thanks to their dense peel, the Japanese orange truffle tomatoes do not crack. The variety has good keeping quality. The culture has excellent transportability indicators.
Taste characteristics
Gardeners note that tomato has a bright and rich taste. Even after long-term storage, the fruits do not lose their sweet and sophisticated notes.
Ripening and fruiting
Tomato Japanese orange truffle belongs to the group of mid-season varieties. The harvest is in July.
Yield
The variety is characterized by a stable yield - 6-7 kg of berries are removed from one bush.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Before sowing, the seeds are inspected for damage or rot. Then they are immersed in water and checked for "voids". Further, the material is processed and sown into the prepared soil.
Seedling boxes can be either individual or for growing several bushes at the same time. The soil can be fertilized with growth stimulants. Sowing is carried out in March.
The seeds will hatch in a week. After that, caring for the seedlings will consist in observing the watering regime, loosening the soil, feeding and picking.
Transplanting seedlings into the ground occurs at the age of 50-60 days.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
It is best to plant the bushes in a checkerboard pattern, even though they are compact. This will facilitate harvesting and subsequent care of the crop. On average, 3-4 bushes are planted per 1 m2.
Growing and care
The main care of the culture is as follows.
Since the bush is tall, it can bend under its weight. Therefore, a timely garter to the support is necessary. During the formation and ripening of fruits, branches are also tied to pegs or trellises so that they do not break off under the weight of the fruits.
Watering is regular and abundant, but not more than 2 times a week. One bush should have 2-3 liters. Water is applied at the root. It is best to carry out the procedure in the evening with warm, settled water.
Loosening of the soil is carried out immediately after irrigation. It is necessary to break the top layer of the earth, which is covered with a "film" and does not allow air to pass through itself.
The main feeding falls on the growing season. It is best to make a mixture of mineral and organic fertilizers, and they can also be alternated with each other. Everything should be diluted with water and applied in liquid form.
Grassing and shaping the bush are carried out as needed. Summer residents are advised to leave only 2 stems to increase yields. The lower branches are removed, and the crown itself is periodically thinned out so as not to shade the fruits.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Tomato Japanese orange truffle is very resistant to fungal diseases. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out preventive spraying 2-3 times per season.
But the culture often suffers from the invasion of insect pests. The most dangerous among them are the Colorado potato beetle and aphids. The first one must be harvested independently and, if possible, do not plant the variety next to the potatoes. To get rid of aphids, you need to spray the stems with a solution of laundry soap.
