Among the large number of tomato varieties, there are those that can be grown outdoors without losing yield. The Cheerful Dwarf tomato belongs to just such a culture.

Breeding history

In 2000, amateur breeders from Australia and America decided to develop new varieties of tomatoes called Gnome. The culture became very popular, so Russian breeders did not want to lag behind either. In 2009, the Cheerful Dwarf tomato was introduced to the market, the author of which is L.A. Myazina.

Description of the variety

The Vesely Gnome variety is unique: it can be grown outdoors, in small plastic greenhouses and on the balcony.

The Cheerful Dwarf tomato is considered an undersized crop. The bushes have limited growth - only 40-50 cm. The crown is small and compact. The stem is thick and strong. He holds the crown and fruits well, but due to the active ripening of tomatoes, tying is necessary.

There are few leaves on the bush, they are spreading and small. Their color is dark green, matte. There is slight pubescence. The plate has a characteristic middle section and ribbed edges. In drought or in the sun, the leaves can curl up like a tube.

Main advantages:

  • yield;
  • universal purpose;
  • taste qualities;
  • good immunity.

The disadvantage of the variety is that with insufficient sunlight and bad weather conditions, the ripening and harvesting times are shifted by 1-2 weeks.

The main qualities of the fruit

The shape is cylindrical, elongated and with a spout (sometimes the spout is depressed inward). Fruit weight - 80-90 g, length - 12-15 cm. The peel is smooth and does not crack. The shade of a ripe fruit is red, an unripe one is light green.

The pulp is dense, sugary and fleshy, of a pale pink hue. There is one chamber inside, few seeds. Tomatoes are universal, therefore they are suitable for fresh consumption, for preservation and freezing.

Taste characteristics

The taste of tomatoes Cheerful gnome is full-bodied and pleasant. The tomatoes are sweet.

Ripening and fruiting

The cheerful gnome ripens early, the ripening period of tomatoes is 90-100 days. Much depends on the weather conditions.

Yield

Yield indicators are good: from 1.5 to 2 kg ripens on one bush, 5.4 kg of tomatoes can be removed from 1 m2.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Since the variety is intended for outdoor cultivation, the sowing time of its seeds is slightly different. It is best to land at the end of March. About 50 days should pass between planting seedlings in the ground and sowing.

The crop is intended for open field cultivation, but you cannot sow seeds in the beds right away. Therefore, it is necessary to properly prepare the seedlings. The seeds are soaked in thawed water at room temperature for several days. In the seedling boxes, holes are harvested, the depth of the holes should be 2 cm.

After sowing the seeds, the boxes are covered with foil or glass and placed on the windowsill. After a week, the seeds will hatch.

A pick should be done when 2 leaves are formed on the bushes. Seedlings should be watered through a spray bottle and fed with liquid fertilizers. The bushes should be taken outside at the beginning of the last month of spring, when the air temperature will be +14 degrees. It is necessary to plant seedlings in the last days of May, when the daily temperature will be +18 degrees Celsius.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The chosen bed should be dug up in the fall along with natural compost. During the winter, the earth will be saturated with useful minerals and rest. Before planting the bushes, the dug holes are plentifully spilled with water. It is worth waiting a little for all excess moisture to evaporate.

The pits should be shallow, only 20 cm. Many gardeners recommend planting about 5-6 bushes per 1 m2. The planting scheme is as follows: between the bushes - 30-35 cm, between the rows - 40-50 cm.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Seedling care is easy. But there are some points to keep in mind.

  • Watering should be normalized. If it rains often, then you should not additionally water the tomatoes. In case of prolonged drought, it is best to make a drip irrigation system or mulch the bushes. Watering the variety is strictly in the evening, when the sun is not in the active phase and cannot burn the bushes.
  • Tomato Cheerful gnome does not give many stepsons, so there is no need to do pinching.
  • For mulch, you can choose sawdust, straw or peat. They retain moisture well.
  • Timely it is necessary to remove weeds and loosen the soil around the bushes so that it is filled with oxygen.
  • Fertilizing the soil is worth every 2 weeks. It can be a complex of organics and minerals, or it can be fertilized separately. The main thing is to apply fertilizer in liquid form.
Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Due to the fact that the variety is early maturing, many fungal diseases are not afraid of it. Still, it is worth occasionally checking the bushes for the Colorado potato beetle or whitefly. Preventing pests early will help preserve your crop.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
