Fresh, they are also very tasty and ripen quite early. They are undemanding to care, very resistant to diseases - these qualities are so fond of gardeners that they are happy to buy another pack of F1 Verlioka hybrid seeds, once planting them on their site.
Breeding history
The Verlioka tomato is quite young. The variety was bred in 1986. In 1990 it was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements. The originators are two Russian companies - Gavrish Breeding Firm LLC, Tomagros Seed Breeding Firm LLC. The hybrid of the first generation, therefore it is also called the Verlioka F1.
Description of the variety
Verlioka is an early maturing variety of tomatoes for indoor use. From the appearance of the first shoots to the beginning of fruit ripening, 101-105 days pass. The plant is determinate. Medium-sized variety. The height of the plant reaches 1.5-2 m. The diameter of the bush is about 50 cm. The leafiness is medium, the internodes are long. Leaves are light green. Suitable for growing both in greenhouse conditions and for open ground. The first option is preferable.
The main qualities of the fruit
Fruits for universal use. Tomatoes are almost the same in shape and size. They are good both fresh and for making sauces, canning for the winter. Up to 10 brightly colored fruits of average weight (about 80-90 g) are usually formed on one branch. They are stored for quite a long time - until mid-October. The dense skin is resistant to cracking. If you collect green fruits from the bushes, they ripen quickly at home. Verlioku can be transported over long distances.
Taste characteristics
Verlioka's fruits are very beautiful. Everything is as if on selection. Tomatoes are bright red, flat-rounded, slightly ribbed. Despite the fact that the skin is dense, it is not at all rough, underneath it is juicy pulp with a pleasant sweet taste.
Ripening and fruiting
Ripening early and amicable. It takes a little more than 3 months after the first shoots appear, and you can feast on the first salads. With early sowing of seeds and proper care of the plant, the first crop is harvested in early July.
Yield
Verlioka has a bountiful harvest. From each bush, you can collect from 4 to 5 kg of brightly colored fruits. This means that from every square meter of the plot on which these tomatoes grow, you can harvest up to 20 kg of a delicious harvest.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Sowing for seedlings is carried out in the first 2 months of spring. Seeds are sown either directly in separate pots or in boxes. After the shoots have appeared, the seedlings must be transferred to a bright place, or even better, provide additional lighting by extending the daylight hours to 12 hours.
A pick of tomatoes is carried out after the plant has 2 or 3 true leaves. Seedlings need to be watered regularly, avoiding waterlogging of the soil or, conversely, a strong lack of moisture.
2 weeks before young plants are transplanted into the greenhouse, they must be hardened. For this, cups with seedlings are taken out to an open balcony or loggia.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Verliok's tomatoes are planted in May, according to the 40 by 50 cm scheme. They are planted in pre-prepared pits. Plants that can be the predecessors of the Verliok tomato are onions, radishes, dill and other greens.
If the seedlings are stretched out, then they need to be planted slightly at an angle. Near them, you need to either install supports, or tie them to trellises or greenhouse supports.
Growing and care
In the south of the country, it can be grown outdoors. And in other regions - in greenhouses. The soil should be loose and fertile.
Crop care is reduced to the following activities: loosening, regular watering, weeding, timely application of mineral or organic fertilizers, plant formation.
Watering the Verlioki bushes is enough 2 times a week, and if the weather is cool and rainy, one watering a week is enough. Sprinkle with warm water.
A few days after planting the plants in a permanent place, they must be fed with nitrogen fertilizer. With a lack of nutrients, the resulting flowers can fall off.
During flowering, superphosphate can be added, as well as potassium salt, to improve the formation of ovaries.
And you can also use a natural top dressing - egg shells.
To avoid excessive growth of the green part of the plant, it is necessary to carry out pinching. Otherwise, the plant will devote all its strength to growing leaves, and not to the formation and setting of fruits. Stepsons recommend breaking off with their hands, and not cutting with scissors or pruning shears. When the stepsons break it off, it is not completely torn off, but about 2-3 cm is left.
The plant is formed into 1 stem. That is, they remove all formed stepchildren. Usually, the formation of the bush is carried out at the same time as the tying of the tomato bush.
Simultaneously with pinching and tying, you can trim the lower leaves. But you should not remove more than 3 leaves at a time.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The breeders bred this variety for indoor cultivation, so they planned to make it resistant to infection with the main diseases of greenhouse tomatoes.
Verlioka is resistant to tobacco mosaic virus, cladosporium and fusarium wilt.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The Verlioka tomato variety easily endures many hardships. Unlike many other varieties of tomatoes, as well as all other nightshade crops, it is quite shade-tolerant. It also has other qualities that are not too familiar for tomatoes - drought resistance, and most importantly, resistance to high humidity.
Growing regions
Tomatoes of this variety can be grown practically throughout the entire territory of the Russian Federation. The following regions are suitable for this - Eastern and Western Siberia, the Urals, Northern and North-Western, Central and Central Black Earth, Volgo-Vyatka, Middle Volga and Lower Volga, as well as the North Caucasus.
Review overview
All gardeners note the particular unpretentiousness of the variety, its excellent yield and uniform ripening of fruits. If summer is not available, the weather is bad and rainy, a good harvest of tasty and appetizing fruits still ripens on the bushes.
The variety is also valued for its tolerance to many viral and infectious diseases of tomatoes.
